Our new school is rapidly taking shape and it is wonderful to see some finishing touches being applied to the buildings and grounds. We have certainly come a long way since February this year. At this time we are well on track to have our new school opening in February 2019. I would like to remind our parents and community of some important upcoming events. Firstly, our parent Information evenings for our new Kindergarten Parents and any Pre Primary students new to our school in 2019. In addition, there are 2 sessions available for parents of children in years 1 to 6 who will be new to Aspiri Primary school next year. Details are available via our Front Office team and places must be booked by following this link https:// www.trybooking.com/YEXT. A reminder that these sessions are not designed for current families of children at APS this year as they are a repeat of the 2017 information sessions. In addition, our local member, Mr Yaz Mubarakai would love to meet with Kindergarten parents for 2019 from Harrisdale Primary School at the session on Wednesday 14 November at 11.30 am. We will be hosting Out of School care on site at Aspiri Primary school in 2019 via OSH Club, our 2018 providers. Information and contact details can be found on our web page. Please contact OSH Cub direct as this is not managed by the school. At this stage our enrolments for 2019 stand at around 475 students. If you know of any families intending to enrol their students at Aspiri Primary School in 2019 can I ask that you encourage them to do so as quickly as possible to assist us with planning. Enrolments for Kindergarten are filling rapidly and will be closed once capacity is reached. A request for your assistance: Whilst we love to have our children playing on our playground equipment after school which allows them to socialise and you as parents to meet each other or catch- up, I would like to remind everyone of the duty of care you must provide to your children whilst they are in and around the equipment. We have had a spate of small incidents recently where children have sustained minor injuries that may have been avoided by closer supervision. In addition, some children have had to be reminded not to ride their bikes inside the school play area. Please ensure that your children are supervised carefully and that you have departed by 2.55 pm or this opportunity may need to be reconsidered. The school is not in a position to provide supervision as staff finish their day around this time or are required to attend meetings. I hope everyone is enjoying the seasons changing to some warmer, drier weather; as I know staff are. See you at the gate. Noel Morgan Principal

Associate Principal’s Words

Preparation for 2019

The leadership and teaching team are very busy at the moment with preparations for 2019 when the school opens K-6. One of our exciting roles is re-cruiting and selecting new staff. Over the coming weeks we will be holding interviews with potential new staff and you may find that the verandah at the end of the administration block is roped off. Please refrain from entering the roped off area and move quietly around this area so as to not interrupt the interviews.

Positive Parenting Program

The first of three sessions for our Positive Parent-ing Program was a wonderful success last week. The free session, run by The Department of Edu-cation, focused on the power of positive parenting. We have had lots of good feedback from parents and we look forward to welcoming you at future sessions. There is a registration sheet outside your child’s classroom if you are planning to attend.

The next two sessions will be held on:

Raising Competent, Confident Children- 31 October at 9am in PP1.

Raising Resilient Children- 7 November at 9am in PP1.

Music Count Us in!

Aspiri Primary School will be celebrating its first Music Count Us In (MCUI) on Thursday 1 Novem-ber. MCUI advocates for and celebrates music in Australian schools. The 2018 Program Song is called ‘One Song’. It celebrates the joy of unit-ing together and making music with others. We will be involved with over 660,000 students from more than 3,000 schools all around Australia cel-ebrating the value of music education. We are ask-ing all students to wear full school uniform with green accessories to raise awareness of the im-portance of music education in Australian schools.

Merit Award System

Our whole school merit system has now been im-plemented across Kindergarten and Pre-primary. Your child may have already received a white card

and it is their responsibility to keep these cards in a safe place at home until they are ready to ob-tain a Blue Special Award.

All teachers award approximately 15 Achieve-ment (White) Cards per week. These may be awarded for classroom, playground, or any school activity for improvement, excellence or thoughtfulness. The White Cards are given on the spot. All subsequent awards are presented at Assemblies.

Children will need to collect 6 White Cards to ob-tain a Blue Special Award: 3 Blue Special Awards are required for a Bronze Award of Ex-cellence: 2 Bronze Awards of Excellence to achieve a Silver Award of Excellence and finally 2 Silver Awards of Excellence to gain an Aspiri Primary School Gold Medal. The system will be continued in 2019 from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Please see the Merit Award Graph on the next page.

Thank you to the Durling family for the kind dona-

tion of books and puzzles. They are very much

appreciated by the school.

Kindy 3 has been watching with excitement as

our cocoons have been hatching open to reveal

our silk moths. We have 12 moths already with 2

more still to hatch. As they don’t eat or drink

when they are a moth they will only live a short

time after they have produced us many eggs!

Constable Care Incursion

On Friday, 19 October Constable Care treated students in Kindergarten and Pre-primary to a wonderful puppet show performance of ‘Fun Scary’. The performance taught students the dif-ference between scary things that are fun (like rollercoasters) and those scary secrets that we need to tell a trusted adult about. This perfor-mance aided in teaching students the key con-cepts of protective behaviours in an engaging and non-threatening way. The students thorough-ly enjoyed the performance and we look forward to welcoming them back again in 2019!
