International Society of Heterocyclic Chemistry 2019 Newsletter December 2019 Message from the President As the current president of the ISHC, it is my pleasure to inform you about past and current developments and activities of our society. I am indebted to the members of the executive committee of ISHC and editors of Progress of Heterocyclic Chemistry who are responsible for several exciting developments that will allow us to communicate between members of ISHC and learn about their activities more efficiently. The 27 th ISHC Congress was held in Kyoto, Japan September 1-6, 2019 Prof. Shuji Akai (Osaka University) and Prof. Yasuyuki Kita (Ritsumeikan University) successfully hosted the 27th ISHC Congress at Kyoto, Japan. The 821 participants (355 students) from 33 countries enjoyed the meeting. During this meeting, we celebrated the achievements of three outstanding scientists for the awards. E. C. 2019 Newsletter December 2019

Message from the President As the current president of the ISHC, it is my pleasure to inform you about past and current developments and activities of our society. I am indebted to the members of the executive committee of ISHC and editors of Progress of Heterocyclic Chemistry who are responsible for several exciting developments that will allow us to communicate between members of ISHC and learn about their activities more efficiently.

The 27th ISHC Congress was held in Kyoto, Japan September 1-6, 2019

Prof. Shuji Akai (Osaka University) and Prof. Yasuyuki Kita (Ritsumeikan University) successfully hosted the 27th ISHC Congress at Kyoto, Japan. The 821 participants (355 students) from 33 countries enjoyed the meeting. During this meeting, we celebrated the achievements of three outstanding scientists for the awards. E. C. Please contribute by sending abstracts of published, peer reviewed papers (no ASAPs or in press) that have appeared in the last four months to [email protected]. If you are a member and are not receiving the bulletin, please drop them a note, too.

Latest PHC Published Volume 31 of Progress in Heterocyclic Chemistry covering the 2018 literature is now available.

Closing Remarks This Newsletter is my last official duty as ISHC President. I have enjoyed serving as President the last two years and working with the Committee members to keep our Society alive and well. It was also a pleasure to meet many of our members at the recent Congress in Kyoto. Let’s all wish Prof. Chris Vanderwal well as he leads the Society as our President the next two years. I would like to thank all of you for your support of our Society. I also take this opportunity to wish you a happy holiday season and a happy and productive 2020. Masayuki Inoue President, ISHC
