DATES TO REMEMBER
General Meeting May 9th -All About Wine
Our history was before us in our last meeting in the form of
noted historian and actor, Al Stone. Al Stone has been the
consummate actor and authority on the life of General
Robert E. Lee for over 30 years. He provided us a
biography of how the Virginia Lee family came to be
intertwined into the family of President George
Washington and came to live in Arlington House which
was built by George Washington Parke Custis, grandson of
Martha Washington He portrayed and dressed as General
Lee as he took us down that historical path and described
how the mansion and its land came to become the final
resting place of many American soldiers since the
beginning of the American Civil War. Thank you, Ann
Swinford, for bringing us such a talent and noted person as
Al Stone.
Our Learning Ladies explored and toured the ever so
beautiful and famous Tampa Theatre on Monday, March
25th. Even though I could not attend, I heard via the
grapevine that it was quite a success!! And we have Barb
Fuller and Betty Leslie to thank for the organization and
coordination of this event. Thank you so much for
stepping up to the plate and bringing our Learning Ladies
back to the ladies of our club. Hopefully, there will be
more to come in the future!!
Now on to our next meeting—the Annual Fashion Show
and Broadway Production presented and organized by
none other than the talented women’s club members Leslie
Colello and Mariellen Blackstone!! What is this year’s
show going to be about, you may ask??? It will be taking us
back to that sleepy resort in the Catskills and bringing us
the music and times of the sixties. But it is just not about
Johnny and Baby, it is about DENIM and all kinds of
fashions that broke out of that wonderful era. So, ladies,
wear anything denim to the show—not just bluejeans and
shirts—but any color of denim. White, blue, red, pink,
anything you can find in all styles of dress—wear it and
show it off!!

Doors will not open for the meeting until 5:30 pm. All exits will be locked and guarded, so please
enter through the clubhouse main entrance only—no one will be allowed through the grill room or
any other entrances. Cocktails will be from 5:30-6:00, and a brief meeting will follow, with dinner
ending by 7:15 pm. The fashion show will begin at approximately 7:20 pm, so get your meal, talk
your talk, get a glass of wine, and sit back and enjoy the show!!! Again, any guest will be charged a
$20 guest fee so that we can keep our paid members all in the dining room for that perfect seat and
photo op of your best girlfriends strutting their stuff again this year! I can’t wait—jeez, I’m on that
dang runway this year! Do you think I’ll have time for a tummy tuck and facelift??? Oh, well, just
let it all hangout!! It’s about the fun, so look for the evite coming out soon and first, say “yes”,
then scroll down and put your name in the Comments, and hit “send.” Easy peasy!!
Kathy Hunt of Restored Hope is asking for help in handing out flyers at the Dade City Publix to
help with the food drive that is so desperately needed. She is asking for volunteers to be at Publix
and hand out flyers for needed types of food on April 5th and 6th from 9:00 am-4:00 pm, and again
on April 12th and 13th from 9:00 am-4:00 pm. Also, on April 15th, 17th, and 18th, from 9:00 am-
2:00 pm on each date at Restored Hope in Dade City, volunteers are needed to help distribute boxes
of food to those families in need. Again, Restored Hope is not a hand out but a hand up—it’s main
purpose is to help “prevent” those persons who are on the verge of homelessness. It gives them that
assistance they need to keep going to work and keep food on the table. It’s a very worthwhile
organization, and Kathy and her volunteers need us—please contact Restored Hope at 352-437-4815
and help.
Our adopted women’s club member, Dean Hoogaboom and his boys Derek and Curtis, are needing
our help in collecting Boxtops for Education. Please look before you dispose of the box tops on
many of your pantry supplies. If they are indicated to be a part of that specific program, cut them
off, save them, and contact me at 540-273-5437 or bring them to any women’s club meeting. Dean
has been our internet and website builder for years and has spent endless hours helping us to put our
information online for all to see. He asks nothing in return except to help his boys help their San
Antonio Elementary School with this fundraiser. It is ongoing, so ALWAYS collect those boxtops
for our local elementary school. Thank you!!
Now, for me!! I am again hoping to receive some help from any of you who might be cleaning out a
closet or two of men’s clothing and toiletries for our local veterans. The Elks Lodge #2731 of
Zephyrhills of which I am a member, does so much to help those veterans in nursing homes and
hospitals. Currently, they are collecting men’s pants/trousers of all sizes, denture adhesive, alcohol
free mouth wash, shampoo, and body lotion. Many of our veterans are in dire circumstances and
need these simple items to just exist in their environment. So, again, if you have any items, please
call me or deliver them to my home at 12912 Grand Traverse Dr. We cannot let our veterans down!!

And now for the list:
1. Again, please be courteous at our meetings and also at any of our offsite events, and keep
the talking down so that others might better hear and learn.
2. If anyone has any charitable event or need, please email me, and I will be most happy to
talk about it at our meetings and put the information into the newsletter or a blast. Charity
begins at home!!
3. To those new members, we have our Women’s Club of Lake Jovita cookbooks still
available for sale at $20 each. These make phenomenal gifts for birthdays, weddings, and
baby showers. And it supports our club so that we can provide the best programs for all of
our members!!
So, ladies, go forth and do what floats your boat!!
