EXTERNAL SITUATION REPORT 25 February– 6 March IOM Regional Response to South Sudan Crisis OVERVIEW Currently, 1.5 million people are displaced in South Sudan, with over 500,000 people having fled to neighbouring Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Sudan. Over 112,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) are sheltering within UNMISS Protecon of Civilian (PoC) sites across the country, predominantly in Benu and the 3 Juba PoC sites. On the polical front, peace talks on South Sudan have stalled yet again aſter the two leaders, President Salva Kiir and opposion leader Riek Machal, failed to agree on the formaon of a transional government. The two leaders missed the 5 March deadline set by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). Since the beginning of the conflict, 507,837 South Sudanese refugees have crossed into Ethiopia (196,161), Uganda (144,602), Sudan (121,852) and Kenya (45,222). (Source: UNHCR Sitrep, 6 March 2015). IOM RESPONSE TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE KENYA: During this reporting period, IOM transported 47 refugees from the Nadapal border point to Kakuma Refugee Camp. The majority of the arrivals were originating from Jonglei, Warrap and Unity states. Since the onset of the crisis, IOM has provided transportation assistance to a total of 23,789 refugees. REGISTRATION SUDAN: During this reporting period, IOM registered 438 South Sudanese refugees. Since the onset of the crisis, IOM has tracked and registered 53,412 South Sudanese refugees arriving in the country. SHELTER AND NON-FOOD ITEMS (NFIs) SOUTH SUDAN: 5,688 Metric Tonnes of Non Food Items (NFI’s) have been transported to date, of which 93 per cent has been through the Shelter-NFI Cluster. Delivery of shelter materials to Bentiu and Malakal is ongoing and the purchase of 24,000 bundles of bamboo in Wau for further transportation to Bentiu is also underway. During this this reporting period, an additional 13,000 bamboo bundles have been procured and will delivered to Bentiu. 1 South Sudan: During this reporng period in Malakal IOM acvely parcipated in the naonal polio campaign where 3,580 children under the age of five were vaccinated. IOM Regional Response to South Sudan Crisis

WATER SANITATION AND HYGIENE (WASH) SOUTH SUDAN: As State Focal Point for the WASH Cluster in Upper Nile Sate, IOM continues to lead the coordination of WASH response in coordination with the Health Cluster in the state. Furthermore, IOM is collaborating with partners to ensure IDPs have access to safe water, sufficient sanitation facilities, and good hygiene practices in the UNMISS PoCs of Malakal and Melut. In Malakal, all sectors in the new PoC are receiving clean treated water through the network supply system Consumption was on average of 14.1 litres per person per day . Between 26 February and 6 March the Humanitarian hub received 177,500 litres and the Malakal Teaching Hospital received 12,000 litres. During this reporting period, Children Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation (CHAST) training was conducted by IOM in two schools located in the camps of Hai Soma and Dethoma 1. The training focused on proper personal hygiene education and where and 115 pupils had benefitted from the training sessions.

HEALTH SOUTH SUDAN: During this reporting period in Malakal, IOM among other humanitarian partners actively participated in the national polio campaign where 3,580 children under the age of five were vaccinated. 142 children were vaccinated against childhood diseases and 10 health awareness campaigns were carried out, with 698 beneficiaries attending. In the Reproductive Health Unit, 63 clients attended antenatal services, and clients attended postnatal services, with six babies being delivered. In Bentiu, 1,201 clients were vaccinated under the ongoing Extended Programme on Immunizations (EPI). An additional 981 Cases were involved in the health promotion outreach awareness raising sessions at the clinic and in PoC 1 and PoC 6. Moreover, 76 clients attended antenatal services and 15 clients postnatal services, wit 1 babies delivered.
