Issues to be Solved for DTV- Reasonable Copy Protection -
o Heavy restrictions in Japan1. No duplication: only “move” allowed2. Contents on a removable media
playable only on authorized playerso Light weight restrictions in U.S.
1. Broadcast flag permits fair use copy

MPEG-2/4 IPMP : Outline
o International Standard for Intellectual Property Management & Protection for MPEG Audio Visual contents
o Basic concept is an architecture for secure coordination framework for IPMP tools.
1. Various CA/DRM tools (Authentication, Encryption/Decryption, Watermarking, etc.) can be applied
2. Tools are managed via IPMP Control Graph and handled as Blackbox.
14dates
ITU-T
MPEG-2/4 IPMP : Status
o Not widely used in current mass marketo Markets in which MPEG-2/4 AV contents
are widely used already have its own simple CA/DRM related mechanism.
1. DVD2. Digital Broadcast3. AV clip for 3G mobile phone
o Reasonable DRM implementation example required to enlarge market size and to reduce equipment cost TC100 activities
How about FTTH converter ?5. Cable modem: stay independently
o In-house network:1. No practical network at home until
recently: -1394: replacement of RCA pin jack
2. Very few WLAN audio streaming3. Very few modem/printer/storage sharing
o The situation is changing

Closing Remarks
o Home server/network-related TC100 activities were introduced.
o PC is now leading the home network withnetwork media player.
o Broadcasting services based on home server will drive gateway function between in-house network and access network.
o DRM is the key issue for A/V network deployment.
