AFC MTP® Low Loss Cabling System

AFC’s MTP pre-terminated cables and cassettes offer a

market leading low loss, fast and efficient connection

system particularly suited to the Data Centre (DC) and

Storage Area Network (SAN) environment.

The modular MTP product set comprises cables, cassettes, heavy duty

fanouts and various 1RU, 1.5RU, 2RU and 3RU enclosure options. The solution is

ideal for both new and fully populated communication racks.

US Conec MTP Technology Partnership

To bring the highest quality multi-fibre pre-terminated system to our

customers, AFC has partnered with US Conec (Hickory NC USA) to

guarantee only ‘best in class’ MTP connectors are used.

AFC only uses US Conec MTP Elite connectors due to their low loss and

enhanced performance over standard MPO connectors.

The AFC and US Conec partnership ensures that the latest in next generation

multi-fibre solutions are available and fully supported.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Crossover

AFC’s MTP cabling solution is configured with pair crossovers (pair flipping), i.e. AB and BA, meeting the array connector polarity requirements of ANSI/TIA-568-C-0. AFC’s MTP cabling system also meets the polarity requirements for duplex optical fibre connectors under ANSI/TIA-568-C-0. Custom configurations can be manufactured to suit specific polarity requirements.

MTP Connector and Polishing Standards

Terminated MTP connectors are tested via interferometer to meet the endface geometry requirements of both IEC PAS 61755-3-31 and US Conec geometry guidelines. MTP connectors are also compliant with FOCIS 5 and IEC 61754-7.

Compliance with ISO IEC 11801 – Generic Cabling for Customer Premises is specified for many DC and SAN environments. Optical fibre cabling that supports IEEE 802.3: 10GBASE-SR/SW (850nm) applications over an OF-300 (300m) 50/125 OM3 fibre has a maximum specified channel insertion loss of 2.55dB. This low channel loss can apply to any network architecture and any number of cabling backbones and cross-connects. AFC’s MTP cabling system has the lowest possible OM3/OM4 and OS1/2 channel loss via the US Conec MTP Elite connector combined with low loss, high tolerance LC cassette connectors and through adapters.

MTP Connector Inspection and Cleaning

All MTP connector endfaces are factory inspected and cleaned using US Conec criteria and guidelines. MTP connector cleanliness is critical for low loss performance. AFC recommends the use of MTP video inspection scopes, US Conec’s MTP connector cleaners and high performance cleaning consumables.
