~ EDITORIAL ~ ELECTION ISSUE FREE LET THOSE WHO LABOUR HOLD THE REINS THE MOST IMPORTANT NATIONAL ELECTION IN THE HISTORY OF ST KITTS AND THE FEDERATION TAKES PLACE ON MONDAY NEXT WEEK. • On the one hand the Labour Party is running on its considerable and comprehensive record of achieve- ments over the past fifteen years. It is also basing its claim for continuity of representation of the people of St Kitts and Nevis on its present achievements including • the successful transition from sugar and the diversification of the economy; • the very visible increases in the quality of life and standard of living of the people of this coun- try; and the enlightened gover- nance, especially planning, that has enabled this country not only to survive, but also to improve its economic performance when its Caribbean neighbours are experi- encing difficult times. On the other hand its competi- tor is a Movement that has not moved since it was toppled from the seat of Government in 1994. It claims to be of the people but is controlled by a particular class characterized by a “com- mission agent” mentality – buying cheap and selling dear. Over the past fifteen years it has enjoyed the prerogative of all Opposition parties of being able to engage in destructive criticism of the Government in power without being required to do or say any- thing constructive. IT IS A FEATURE OF OUR DEMOCRACY THAT OPPOSITIONS CAN TALK THE TALK BUT GOVERNMENTS ARE EXPECTED TO WALK THE WALK. It has done nothing else in the past fifteen years. There is nothing memorable in its resume. If it were a person going for a job interview, the encounter will be short and the response swift. The answer is “Nothing” and noth- ing comes from nothing except the empty promises of empty vessels. So if their track record is such that nobody will employ them for even the most menial jobs, why should they be considered for the top political posts in our country? If they have not done anything for fifteen years, why should they be even considered as employable es- pecially during a time of extreme challenges to the survival of Small Island Developing States (SIDS)? You cannot put a FRY weight into a heavyweight contest. You cannot send some overweight layabout to fight Mohammed Ali. You cannot send talkers when you need doers. You cannot send CHICKENS to fight elephants. ~ “ ... OUR OPPOSITION PARTY IS NOTED FOR IS ITS ABILITY TO TALK!” http://FriendsOfStKittsAndNevis.com proven ACHIEVEMENT VS naked AMBITION PAM IT IS AN “ACTION” MOVEMENT THAT HAS NOT ACHIEVED ANYTHING IN THE PAST FIFTEEN YEARS. IF THERE IS ANY SINGLE THING OUR OPPOSITION PARTY IS NOTED FOR IS ITS ABILITY TO TALK AND TALK AND TALK. ALTHOUGH ELECTIONS ARE ABOUT EMOTIONS, WE URGE THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY TO LOOK DISPASSIONATELY AND OBJECTIVELY AT THE PRESENT NATIONAL AND GLOBAL SCENARIO. ASK YOURSELVES, WHO ARE BEST QUALIFIED TO REPRESENT YOU AND TO MANAGE OUR COUNTRY RIGHT NOW AND FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS. SKN ELECTIONS 2009 I SEE THAT THE LAST TIME YOU DID ANYTHING WAS FIFTEEN YEARS AGO AND YOU WERE FIRED FOR INCOMPETENCE, IRRESPONSIBILITY AND OTHER INDISCRETIONS, WHAT WORK HAVE YOU DONE SINCE THEN?” VERSUS • WE URGE YOU TO VOTE WITH YOUR HEADS RATHER THAN ONLY WITH YOUR HEARTS. • WE URGE YOU TO CONSIDER THE FUTURE OF YOUR CHILDREN AND YOUR CHIL- DREN’S CHILDREN AND IN WHOSE HANDS THEY WILL FIND SAFETY, SECURITY AND SUCCESS. • WE URGE YOU TO REMEMBER THAT THOSE WHO LABOUR SHOULD HOLD THE REINS OF OFFICE. VOTE FOR DR DOUGLAS. VOTE FOR LABOUR. Vote for Good Governance. Vote for the future of our Federation. WALKING THE WALK
