Members news College used as a setting for Zombie Film
Kirklees College’s New North Road
site in Huddersfield has provided the
setting for a new zombie film.
The former hospital building is one of
the locations being used for psycholog-
ical thriller Extremis, starring David
O’Hara (Braveheart, The Departed,
Luther), Isabelle Allen (Les Miserables),
Neil Pearson (Drop the Dead Donkey);
and 1980s singer Toyah Wilcox.
Julian and Lionel Hicks have teamed up
with York based GSP Studios to pro-
duce award winning director Steve
Stone’s second feature.
Julian and Lionel worked with Hudders-
field-based North Light Studios in 2012
on their feature film Scintilla.
They are focused on bringing more
feature films to the North of England
and want to see all of Yorkshire being
used for its cinematic potential.
Julian Hicks said: “I am delighted to
back filming in Huddersfield, the city
and has provided us with the perfect
location. Yorkshire is becoming our hub
for filmmaking in the UK”.
The college building, which closed
when Kirklees College moved to the
Waterfront Quarter, has been used for
several other productions over the last
few months including BBC1’s
Remember Me starring Michael Palin
and Mark Addy; Happy Valley starring
Sarah Lancashire and ITV series Black
Work starring Sheridan Smith.
Kirklees College commercial manager
Jason Taylor said: “"Once again it is a
great privilege to host a film produc-
tion in our premises and be part of
putting our region firmly on the map.
The opportunities created are far
reaching and there is more to come -
so watch this space!"
Extremis centres on a business
executive who returns home to his
family for the weekend. Within hours
of his return a cataclysmic ‘event’
takes place and the world they inhabit
becomes deserted and toxic.
Slowly he begins to question the
nature of this ‘event'; is it really out
there or has it come from within? As
the threat grows he races across the
ravaged landscape to save his daughter
not from the end of the world … but
from the end of their world.

Depart’. Joe is pictured with his yellow

Improving IT in-house P2 Technologies is pleased to
announce the completion of its latest
project for Huddersfield based Housing
Diversity Network.
Housing Diversity Network (HDN) is a
not-for-profit social enterprise working
mainly, but not exclusively, within the
social housing sector across England to
promote equality, diversity and
inclusion. By raising the profile of social
justice and equality in housing, neigh-
bourhoods and communities, it aims to
change lives for the better.
P2 explored the firm’s use of
technology and understood its IT
issues, which included ageing server
hardware, no security updates or
support from Microsoft, inflexible
software and lack of remote access.
After the consultation period P2 were
able to recommend a number of
solutions for the client, after reviewing
benefits and costs P2 implemented
Microsoft Office 365.
Microsoft Office 365 is a combination of
server suites including Exchange, Share-
Point and Lync and HDN have the use of
Microsoft Office including Outlook,
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and
OneNote on up to 5 devices including
PC, Apple, iPad and iPhone. The
software offers all the requirements
HDN need, improves collaborative shar-
ing and offers the latest Microsoft Office
suite without any server hardware.
The new system, implemented by ex-
perienced and accredited engineers at
P2, ensured no additional capital ex-
penditure or running costs of having to
purchase and host server hardware,
resulted in huge savings for HDN.
Microsoft Office 365 also delivers
improved secure data sharing for staff
and external contacts.
Employees of HDN can now access data
from the office on PC’s, web browsers
or mobile devices, allowing them to
work remotely, anytime, anywhere.
Andy Petrie, Business Operations
Director of HDN, worked with P2
throughout the project and comment-
ed: “P2 has moved us from out of date
hardware to a cloud based solution
which is a huge step forward for the
organisation. The project was well
planned from start to finish and all of
our questions were answered
efficiently. The process was extremely
smooth and we had little downtime
with no disruption. We’re based in Hud-
dersfield but work with organisations
across the country and this new way of
working will ensure we can deliver a
better service to our members and
clients. Our team is now working
confidently both in the office and re-
motely with peace of mind that if they
require support they can give P2 a call.”
Martin Page, Director of P2,
commented: “Customer experience and
relationships are major factors for P2
and consistent delivery of positive
customer service comes as standard.
Our team delivered the new cloud
based solution to HDN with little
disruption and we can already see the
new system and computers benefiting
the business positively.
As a trusted partner to many
professional businesses P2 can help
customers make a smooth transition to
Microsoft Office 365, a reliable and
hosted infrastructure platform from
Microsoft.”

Hill’s gothic ghost story The Mist in the
Mirror comes to the Lawrence Batley
Theatre from Tuesday 5 to Saturday 9
May, with otherworldly digital effects
and thrillingly inventive staging
delivering chills aplenty as it builds
towards its terrifying conclusion.
After years spent travelling abroad, Sir
James Monmouth returns to England to
research the life of his hero, the
adventurer Conrad Vane. Plagued by
flashes of terror and the feeling of being
followed, Monmouth soon finds the
dark secrets of Vane’s history

the dog return to the LBT following the
success of The Hound of the

atmospheric Edwardian locations using
cutting-edge scenographic techniques.
They bring a superb understanding of
the mechanics of theatre and the pro-
duction of tension and shock to this
deliciously dark new adaptation of the
novel by the author of The Woman in
Black. With sets magically evoking foggy
London, steam train journeys and
crumbling mansions on the snowbound

Big Screen Weekends…brought to you by

The Armitage Bridge Club, better
known locally as The Monkey Club,
goes from strength to strength.
Formerly a Working Men's Club, but
now a Community Club, having had a
complete renovation over the past 3
years.
The club has a range of Real Ales and
Keg beers as well as great Lager and
Cider.
The now famous Monkeyfest, a great
weekend of Music and Real Ale will be
held over 11th/12th July. The Yorkshire
Air Ambulance and Huddersfield Town
keep it up Campaign have benefited
by thousands of pounds over the past
few years.
Leading Huddersfield recruitment firm
Stafflex has teamed up with festival
organisation Food Festivals to bring a
summer of Big Screen Entertainment
to Huddersfield. Starting in June, St
George’s Square will play host to a
supersize outdoor LED cinema screen
featuring films chosen by families from
across West Yorkshire.
The square will once again feature a
host of food and drink stalls with
accompanying seating and gazebos
offering family fun and entertainment.
“The idea of the Big Screen Weekends
event has come about after the success
of the Tour de Yorkshire and the
Festival of Light 2014 which were held
in St George’s Square, where a big
screen and food and drink stalls were
part of the event.
Food Festivals Ltd, in partnership with
Stafflex, are putting on 3 Big Screen
Weekends running on 3 specific week-
ends (Saturday & Sundays) between
June and August 2015. The Big Screen
Weekends will run from 10am – 9pm
and 3 film viewings dates are to be
announced. Scheduled advertisers’
videos will be shown as well as short
films relating to Huddersfield.
“We want to make the Big Screen
Weekends something that everybody
can enjoy and that’s why we are making
it free to attend. We would also like
some of the local charities to benefit
from the events and are appealing for
them to get in touch with us to discuss
how they can gain from the exposure
they will get at the events.
Ideally we are looking for three chari-
ties, one per weekend, to join us with
their collection buckets and promotion-
al materials. We will help them to raise
the profile of their cause and hopefully
they will help us in return by inviting all
their supporters to come and join in the
fun,” said Nadio Granata.

From your friendly neighbourhood MSP, Probado! We at Probado believe that keeping
users informed of potential security
issues before they arise is the first line
of defence against any kind of cyber
threat. With that in mind we’d like to
inform the community of the substan-
tial increase in Ransomware in 2015.
What is Ransomware?
Ransomware is a term used to identify
a type of virus attack that either holds
your computer system or data to ran-
som. Once on a machine, these viruses
silently work in the background en-
crypting your valuable data without
your knowledge. Then, when you next
come to access them you find that they
look somewhat different and are
unable to be opened. Also you may see
a notice stating that your files have
been “protected” and a payment is
needed to unlock them. The two most
common threats recognised for 2015 at
present are listed below, named Cryp-
towall and Cryptolocker:
Above: Example of the Cryptolocker
Ransomware Notice
What are the Symptoms?
As well as the images above, the first
signs of infection can be seen below. As
the users files become encrypted you
may see new/additional files appear in
locations you use frequently on your
computer. When you try to
open files commonly accessed
files you may encounter mes-
sages such as “The file is cor-
rupted” or “unable to open file”
indicating files cannot be ac-
cessed.
How would I get infected?
Typically these kinds of attacks come in
through via email or attached to some
downloaded software. The more com-
mon types of subject lines via email
include: Invoices, Orders, resumes, Fax
Jobs or delivery of goods (but we have
seen other variants also)
What to do if you find yourself a
victim ?
If you find yourself infected and seeing
any of the symptoms
shown. Shutdown your PC as soon as
possible and contact your IT provider.
They should have the knowledge to
remove the infection and implement
remediation procedures.
Its important to recognise
that if you pay this ran-
som, there is absolutely
no guarantees your files
will be unlocked (In actual
fact there have been re-
ports online of users
paying the ransom, their
files being unlocked, and
less than a week later
being hit again)
How can I stay protected?
Antivirus—Keep your antivirus up to
date. Whilst anti-virus can’t protect
against all variants.
It will help protect against the majority
or threats out there.
Anti-Spam—if your IT provider offers
Anti Spam solutions, these will help
catch most types of spam and virus
emails before hitting your inbox, sub-
stantially reducing the risk
Backups—We can’t stress enough how
important it is to keep backups up to
date. With these types of attacks, once
your files have been encrypted there is
no way to decrypt them (the technolo-
gy required to do so resides on the
cyber criminals servers and can’t be
reproduced)
Be Vigilant—if the sender is unknown
to you and it contains an attachment.
Consult your IT provider. They’re there
to help. It takes 2 seconds to check an
email but can take a whole day to per-
form data recovery. All of which is
down time for you.
(above: example of a email infected
with Cryptowall 3.0)

staying protected. Please feel free to

Upcoming Changes for the Packhorse Gallery Support to Recovery’s ‘Packhorse
Gallery Project’ is designed to give
Yorkshire based artists the opportunity
to showcase their talents, giving them
a well-positioned platform from
which to reach their local audience
and develop as artists/makers.
The upcoming changes to our exhibi-
tion system come into effect in
September 2015, these changes have
been carefully designed to better
serve the artists, offering for the first
time: a choice in the type of space
you exhibit in, the size of it and its
position within the Gallery. Each
exhibiting artist will choose how to
display/present and hang their work,
allowing them creative freedom to
curate their own exhibits.
If you are interested in exhibiting with
us: from May 2015 onwards you can
pop into the Gallery and arrange a
meeting with us to discuss your work
and the opportunities available to you.
A successful meeting will result in the
option to book an exhibition plot of
your choice for between 4 to 12 weeks
at a time, from September. The Gallery
will be divided by measurement into 25
individual exhibitor plots, priced de-
pendant on size, making us more flexi-
ble and accessible to a larger range of
Yorkshire makers.
Under this new system the Packhorse
Gallery has the potential to work with
more than double the current num-
ber of local artists that we reach.
