Overview of the Program
Students will take English courses as official Stanford studentsStudents continue to develop English skills and develop an understanding of American culture through various activitiesStudents will have a multi-national experience through interaction with other Asian students and Stanford hosts

Program History & GoalsHistory
Developed in 2005 in response to growing interest in service and volunteerismBased on a combination of American Language and Culture and Alternative Spring Break models
GoalsTo deepen students interest in and understanding of public service and non-profit organizationsTo study complex social and environmental issues through both academic and hands on activitiesTo increase students sense of meaning and directionTo connect “mind learning” with “heart learning”
What is ‘Service-Learning’?“Service learning is a method of teaching, learning and reflecting that combines academic classroom curriculum with meaningful service throughout the community.”

InterviewInterview will be in EnglishIt will be for about 10 minutes. We are looking for enthusiastic students who are eager to learn through participating in ALC. Be prepared to explain why you want to participate in ALC and what specifically you want to get out of this program.
