SHCA 2013: GREAT MEMORIES 3

Welcome to Michigan!!

Great Lakes, Great Dogs, Great Memories

Welcome to Michigan, in my opinion, Fall in Michigan is the most beautiful season; I hope you enjoy our colors. The 2013 National Show Committee has put together a week full of educational experiences, competitive events and fun outdoor activities all planned around our wonderful Siberian Huskies. Our host hotel is a full service resort; hopefully you will have some time to enjoy the movie theater, the bowling alley, the hot tubs, water park or pools. But of course this would be after the evenings of hospitality, Top Twenty Invitational, annual meeting, auction and educational seminars. The weather in Michigan can be anything but dull! Michigan Fall weather is in the high 50’s and low 60’s during the day and averages about 40 in the evenings generally, but we could get a dusting of snow, we could have bright sunny days great for Fall golf or we could get a Fall rain shower. One thing for sure, the colors in our trees will be like rainbows. The Bay City, Saginaw, Midland triangle is full of wonderful small shops, eclectic restaurants, great golf courses and The Alden B. Dow House and Studio, where you cannot see where the plants end and home begins. The next exit from our show site offers most nationally known restaurants and Meijer for your grocery and one stop shopping needs. Soaring Eagle Casino is just 30 minutes/ 30 miles away. Another thing to remember is 2013 is The Siberian Husky Club of America’s 75th Anniversary and we will, of course, have a few special things planned to celebrate our milestone! The entire 2013 National Committee welcomes you to our show, if you need anything during the week, feel free to ask us and if it is at all possible we will say: Yes! We can do that! Here are several sites that show some of the things the surrounding area has to offer, visit them early and often while planning your visit. www.michigan.org www.midland-mi.org www.abdow.org

See you soon, travel safe! Barb Horsey and the 2013 Show Committee

Performance Raffle If you are like me and so many others, your house is full of more dog related items than you know what do with! Maybe you have duplicate items you received as a trophy or gift or maybe you have a nice item that you would like to pass on to the next person to enjoy so you can create space for things you plan to buy at this year’s SHCA Nationals. Whatever the reason - when you are doing your spring cleaning this year - instead of wondering what to do with all the stuff you find ----- think of sending these items to Theresa or I to include in the Performance Event Raffle at the 2013 Nationals. We can help you make more space in your home! AND you can feel good about helping support the performance programs. The raffle will be held only on one day and will be set up in the area of the obedience and rally events. Small items are accepted as we can put together gift baskets, larger items may be raffled on their own. Some suggestions for donation: Dog beds, crate pads, toys, treats, gift cards, and other fun doggy or wolf themed items. If you would prefer to provide cash donations and have us shop for you, we would be happy to help. If you have items you like to make - we would be glad to include them. I have noticed in the past that some of the favorite items were local wines - if you donate these, we will make sure the winner is carded :-) Thanks in advance for anything you plan to contribute! Send your donations to: Theresa Przybylski 24156 S Kings Road Crete, IL 60417-9717 [email protected] or Laura Anderson 131 Patty Bowker Tabernacle, NJ 08088 [email protected] (609) 268-2080

SHCA Trust Humanitarian Fund – Fundraiser Help raise money for the SHCA Trust’s humanitarian fund by exercising your dogs at the National Specialty. 100% of the funds raised are used for medical support and rescue operations of Siberian Huskies. There will be a designated path around the hotel complex. Make a monetary pledge for each time you walk the path. Give others the chance to help by getting friends and family to sponsor you with additional pledges. Forms will be available at the show to allow you to log your trips. At the end of the show, total your trips, collect your pledges and submit them to The Trust. For information contact Mary Uhlir, [email protected] or Ricki Silveria, [email protected] . The SHCA Trust is a 501c not-for-profit entity.

SHCA National Specialty Video Dog Show Video Pros will again be videoing our National. As in years past,

they will do all events and then have the order forms at our show. If purchased and paid for at our show, there will be a discount to SHCA exhibitors.

Stewarding at the National The National cannot happen without great conformation stewards. We need your services again in 2013. Please volunteer by contacting Bob Eisele, the 2013 SHCA Chief Conformation Steward at [email protected].

Transportation There are three airports to consider when attending the 2013 SHCA National Specialty: Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) - Romulus, MI, Bishop International Airport (FNT) – Flint, MI and MBS International Airport (MBS) – Midland, MI. DTW – The largest of all three airports is about a 2 and 1/2 hour drive. Most likely you would need to rent a car for the trip between the airport and hotel. FNT – The Flint airport is about 60 minutes away by car and all highway driving. Again the best option is individual car rentals. MBS – The Valley Plaza Resort offers a free shuttle service between the airport and hotel. When you arrive at the airport, please call (989) 496-2700 and ask that the shuttle be sent to MBS Airport. Advise them how many passengers there are and how many crates. The Airport Taxi Service operates at FNT and MBS by reservation only. No crates and NO DOGS. This is the only taxi service in the area. Call (989) 695-6513 for reservations.

SHCA, Inc., Check Policy All checks or money orders must be payable to “SHCA” in US Funds and drawn on US banks. Returned checks or money orders do not constitute payment for goods and/or services. All returned checks will be charged a $25.00 returned check fee. Repeated returned checks and/or failure to repay debts to SHCA, Inc. will result in being placed on “cash only” basis with the club. Any payment received by SHCA for any purpose by an individual, group, or business with an outstanding debt to the club will first be applied to that debt. What this means, for example, is if your check for $15.00 novelty sales is returned, you will be assessed an additional $25.00 return check fee; and your resulting debt will be $40.00. If you fail to pay this debt, but attempt to enter the Specialty, and send a check for $58.00 for two entries, $40.00 from that entry check will first be used to pay off your debt, leaving $18.00 for the entries. In order for both of your entries to be accepted and processed, you will need to submit an additional $40.00

Attention Fanciers Residing Outside of the US Please notice our change in policy concerning foreign checks. Checks NOT payable in US dollars and/or NOT drawn on US Banks will not be accepted. Also, note that when ordering items to be sent outside of the US, shipping charges will be DOUBLED.
