He’s gone from throwin’ ‘em to callin’ ‘em! For 17 seasons, Mike threw strikes for four teams in the BML, winning more than 60 games. He was the 2000 Turoscy Formula Award winner (+0.384).

After his pitching career ended, he became one of the best umpires in the League. He must love baseball!

Like power hitters? Chris belted 55 home runs during his eight year career, including leading the League with 19 in 1994. Like high average hitters? Chris had a .413 career average.

To top it all off, he was a fine outfielder as well! Little wonder he has been selected to the BML Hall of Fame!

HALL OF FAME COMMITTEE HALL OF FAME SELECTION PROCESS

Many times we are asked how we go about selecting the inductees to the Blue Mountain League Hall of Fame. First, we have set up rules and guidelines. They state:

"To be considered for selection, a nominee must have made an outstanding contribution to the BML as a player, coach, manager, umpire, league official or team official."

"All nominees shall have participated in the BML in some manner for a period of not less than five (5) years."

"A nominee may be selected for his contribution in one category even though he is still active in the League in another category. Players, to be selected, must be inactive as a player for at least five (5) years. Coaches, managers, league officials umpires and team officials may be selected while still active in the BML, provided they have participated in the League for at least ten (10) years."

Next, we set a limit on how many nominees we feel are appropriate to induct. We want to be sure to induct all those who are worthy, but on the other hand, we do not wish to induct too many in any given year.

Then, nominations are solicited from the Committee, the League and the general public. Nominations are welcome at any time, and they are kept on file for at least five years. Every year, we receive more and more nominations to add to those we have received in the past.

Finally, every nominee's record of contributions is carefully researched and discussed. The merits of each nominee is debated. Then, and only then, does the committee make its selections.

BML HALL OF FAME 2016 SCHOLAR ATHLETE

Alex Thomas is this year’s recipient of the Blue Mountain League Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete Award.

Alex will be attending the Schreyer Honors College at Penn State University where he will major in biomedical engineering.

The Freedom High School class of 2016 salutatorian was a Lamp of Knowledge recipient for receiving straight A's all four years of high school. Alex also received a Student Service Center Award, was a 2016 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Baseball Scholar Athlete, and 2015 and 2016 Lehigh Valley Live All Area Baseball Team honorable mention.

The Blue Mountain League Hall of Fame is proud and honored to recognize Alex as our 2016 Scholar Athlete Award recipient.
