Batam Singapore Cable System (BSCS) PT. TELKOM

BSCS is a submarine cable system connecting Batam Centre station (Batam) to Telin station(Singapore). The total system length is around 72.93 km, connecting the landing sites throughsix fiber pair cables, with stub cable is provided for future extension of the system. Initially, twofiber pair is equipped with four channels of 10Gb/s each realizing an initial capacity of 80Gb/s.Four other fiber pairs are purposely left as dark fibers for future expansion. At Batam, betweenthe BMH at Nongsa landing and Batam Center station, two distinguish land routes are utilizedto transmit/receive four 10Gb/s channels (40Gb/s) each. This design further increases the

    reliability of the system.

    SEA-ME-WE 1 & 2 - Indosat

On 14 February 1984, a consortium of 22 telecommunicationsadministrations from 21 countries signed the agreement for theconstruction, operation and maintenance of the South-East Asia -Middle-East - Western Europe Submarine Cable System.

The Submarine Cable System has eight segments linking Singapore toFrance via Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Italy.

At a length of about 13,000 km and costing over S$800 million.

Segment A:- Singapore - Indonesia 641 km with 70 repeaters laid by CSVercors and manufactured by Submarcom. Opened for service 15November 1984. Capacity 1260 circuits.Segment B:- Indonesia - Sri Lanka 2638 km with 223 repeaters, laid byCS Cable Venture and manufactured by NEC. Opened for service 31December 1985. Capacity 1080 circuits.

Multiple access method used was Frequency Division Multiple Access(FDMA). The Capacity was

measured with number of 4kHz BW channels. The cable system wasdecommissioned June 1999.

Owners of the SEA-MEWE 2 Cable system countedsixty (60) from all public and privatetelecommunication administrations from forty seven (47)countries. It was directly connected 13 countries

(Singapore, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Djibouti, SaudiArabia, Egypt, Cypress, Turkey, Italy, Tunisia, Algeriaand France) on three continents.

The Project was commenced in 1988 and it wascompleted after six years in June 1994. Totalinvestment is around S$800M. At that time it was thelongest fiber optic undersea cable system ever laid. It

was around18,000 kilometers long. The cable system was dividedin to seven Segments.

Fiber optical cables with regenerative repeaters wereused to transport digital signals. Multiple access methodused was Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) withPDH technology. Transmission wavelength is 1.55 nmat 565 Mbps per pair of fibers.

The Cable System was Decommissioned on October2006 after 12 years of service.

    SEA-ME-WE 3 Indosat segment 14 & 16

SEA-ME-WE 3 or South-East Asia - Middle East - Western Europe 3 is an optical submarinetelecommunications cable linking those regions and is the longest in the world, completed in late 2000. It wascommissioned in March 2000. In November 1997 C&MA was signed by 92 International telecommunicationadministrations. It includes 39 landing points in 33 countries and 4 continents from Germany to Australia.

It is 39,000 kilometres (24,000 m) in length and uses Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology withSynchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) transmission to increase capacity and enhance the quality of the signal,

especially over long distances (this cable stretches from North Germany to Australia and Japan). The cablesystem itself has two fibre pairs, each carrying (as of May 2007) 48 wavelengths of 10 Gbit/s
