Korea 2011 Incheon International Airport Passenger Terminal 2 SERVICE MARKET G.F.A FLOORS Architecture Transportation + Logistics 681431 m2 4F / 2B Heerim Consortium (Heerim, Gensler and Mooyoung) won the first prize for the Incheon international Airport Passenger Terminal 2 design competition that was conducted by Incheon International Airport Cooperation. The Incheon International Airport Passenger Terminal 2 was designed with a concept of ‘Bonghwang (Korean Phoenix)’ symbolizing the new vision of Incheon Int’l Airport, the ‘World’s Best Leading Airport’. The design motive was to reconfirm the position of the best hub airport in East Asia with symbolism of world peace and unity, through contemporary reinterpretation of Bonghwang. The design also captured the traditional elegance and beauty of Korea; and embedded the unique spirit of Korea. The new terminal design with linear gate layout minimizes passenger circulation and enhances aircraft circulations, providing optimized comfort and convenience to both users and operators. Moreover, the new terminal is a pioneer of Green Airport adopting sustainable design to achieve 65% reduction of energy consumption, ? in comparison to conventional airports, - designed to minimize heat loss while maximizing the use of reusable energy.
