However, for those who can see beyond the sobering effects of cooler temperatures and shorter days, the advent of autumn means one thing: APPLE SEASON! Alright, granted, it also means warm sweaters, beautiful colours and pumpkin-spiced everything; but for those with an inclination for baking and fresh air, there’s nothing more satisfying than getting out to local orchards and picking apples right off the branch. (And subsequently gorging on apple pie, apple crumble, apple cider, apple sauce, apple… well, you get the idea). We followed some apple-enthusiasts on their annual journey during apple-picking season in Montreal, all the way to the suburbs to see what the orchards had to offer. Take a bite!

Honorable mention: It’s not apple-picking, but they’re apple-crazy at The Big Apple in Colborne, Ontario. Stop infor some great pies, a direct look at the pie-making process, and family-fun. We admit, it’s a bit of a tourist trap, butone that’s actually quite worth the stop. (Plus, there is literally a GIANT apple to visit, who can resist?)
