ImperialismWho did Japan colonize?❏ Korea (1910), Indonesia (1942) , Thailand (1941) , Philippines (1941), French Indochina

(including Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos and was done in 1940), Malaysia (1941), Brunei (1941), and some parts of China and some parts of Mongolia.

Why did Japan colonize other countries?❏ At Emperor Meiji time it was to reach equality with the west and for power to be on par with

the west. It was also to build a constitutional government that European believe that they cannot accomplish. The Treaties of Versailles and Twenty-one Demands determine the relationship between Japan and China.

How does Japan impact life in Africa and Asia?❏ My nation Impacted life in Asia to become more free and made a good example of a small

country that can become strong. For example, my nation had won the Russo-Japanese war and signed the Treaty of Portsmouth. It encouraged Asia countries like India and the Middle East to have nationalist movements. Although my country wasn’t liked and welcomed in Asia, China and Russia because of conflicts such as the Mukden (or Manchurian) incident which worsened the relationship of Japan with Russia and China.

Imperialism and Colonization-How did imperialism impact your country?

Imperialism impacted Japan by making it more industrialized. For example: Education was available for the young as well as grown men.Various kinds of factories also started being made. They also began to improve their weapons and military capabilities.-What were the reactions of the indigenous people who you colonized?

Korea was a part of japan after years of war until 1945.Then Japan started to try to erase korea’s culture by foreboding schools to speak korean. It also became a crime to teach non authorized texts and over 200,000 historical texts were burned by authorities.Japan also drastically changed korea's land. Japan also forced korean women to become “comfort women” which were sex slaves. They also forced them to worship a different religion. The korean people did not submit willingly to japanese rule, they had protest movements, underground groups, this independent movement spread through korea by doing marches and in own there quiet ways protesting the Japanese rule.

NationalismWhat does Nationalism mean?

● Nationalism is the support, loyalty and devotion that a civilian has for their nation and if it's pride is overloaded, it can turn into an arrogance that sees the rest of the nations as weak and less powerful than them.

What does Nationalism mean to your country?● For Japan, nationalism means the certainty that a member of the same

nationality promotes the cultural traditions affirmed by their country and their love of unity in Japan.

How did Nationalism impact your country?● In the Meiji Era in Japan, the Meiji government promoted their national unity,

but in doing so, Japan put themselves on the defensive of their country trying to fight against the colonization of Western nations and struggled to obtain their equality back.
