Skilled India contribu1ng to supply side-‐economic growth, employability and Make-‐in-‐India Strategy Global Standard Applied Learning & Voca5onal Skills with merit based pathway to Higher-‐Learning Objec5vely Co-‐Created between Indian Educa5on Provider, Interna5onally Acclaimed Applied Learning Ins5tutes and Indian Employers Professionally Delivered, in collabora5on with and into, India’s industrial / manufacturing sector leveraging Na5on Building Experiences and Best Prac5ces Branded joint-‐cer5fica5on with credits towards Higher-‐Learning on merit and resourcefulness -‐ An essen5al educa5onal infrastructure into India’s economic future
Imagineering India Satya Chari -‐ 2014
What is it? • Building the next-‐genera7on of skilled professionals in India through applied learning with voca7onal skills,
delivered through global-‐standard cer7fica7on program via franchised curriculum. • Course delivery and cer7fica7on by eco-‐system partners including Global Lead Ins7tute/s, Local Educa7onal
Ins7tute/s, Employer Organiza7ons and Standards Bodies… • Course curriculum co-‐created in collabora7on with experienced global-‐standard ins7tute/s, resourceful course
delivery franchisee/s and industry players / employers / organisa7ons capable of delivering intrinsic and measurable value con7nuum to the stake-‐holders
• Modelled on class-‐room learning, prac7cals and industry internship/s, poten7ally with a semester of learning at the interna7onal ins7tute, with pathway to higher educa7on to the desirous and meritorious.
• Based on hub (7er 1 ci7es) and spoke (7er 2, 3 or 4 ci7es) model, offering day as well as evening courses. Focus: investment op7miza7on, maximise reach, student cost-‐minimiza7on, minimal family / student life interrup7on. Whilst delivering best-‐in-‐class learning, learn / deliver / engage / make a difference locally.
• Linkages to funding ins7tu7ons as eco-‐system partners, assist students in their financial needs whilst learning. • Pathway to employment on merit, with ac7ve collabora7on with and par7cipa7on from employers in the tailored
course / curriculum crea7on, delivery, quality assurance and cer7fica7on of targeted applied learning and voca7onal skills
• Pathway to further learning and / or graduate courses with credits on merit
Why? • Present share of manufacturing in Indian economy is around 17% of the GDP, vs. China's over 45%. The
developmental and demographic reali7es requires India to increase the role and par7cipa7on rate of manufacturing in the economic ac7vi7es SIGNIFICANTLY…
• Between 200 – 300 million (an average of 1 million every month!) young people in India will look for work in the coming years, and the pressure on job-‐crea7on vs. debasing subsidies & hand-‐outs will increase with growing expecta7ons, urbanisa7on, shrinking farm / un-‐organised sector employment and budget reali7es
• Indian industries are finding it increasingly difficult to abract, find and retain appropriately skilled workers
• India's service sector alone will not be able to generate the level of employment required without complimentary manufacturing / industrial sector par7cipa7on as engine of growth
• Economic history clearly illustrates that produc7on / manufacturing is the essen7al back-‐bone of economic development with equitable and sustainable ci7zen par7cipa7on, beneficia7on, harmony and cohesion. A nuanced & balanced manufacturing / industrial sector is less-‐suscep7ble under inevitable economic-‐cycles within the globalised world
