Job: She was a teacher, sister and a nun. She and her fellow nuns gathered dying people off the streets of

Why he/she is my hero: Because she helped people and saved the little ones. She was always humble and she putother people first. She didn't hesitate, she didn't question any person. She didnt care if you were poor and she

always gave all her money to help sick people. She was a true saint. Mother Teresa was known by the world to be

nothing less than an "angel of mercy" who spent every day of her adult life cleaning and feeding so many of the

unwanted and unloved lost and dying.

    My Hero

    By: Astika Mala

Name: Albert EinsteinBorn: Born in Ulm in Germany on March 14th 1879 and he died in 1955Family: Albert Einstein was born as the first child of the Jewish couple Hermann and Pauline Einstein in Ulm on March 14,

1879. When Alberts grandmother saw him for the first time she is said to have cried continuously: "Much too thick! Much

too thick!" But despite all fear the development of young Albert was a normal one. In November 1881 Alberts sister Maria

    was born.

Childhood: The Einstein family went to Munich where Albert first attended elementary school and subsequently

Luitpold grammar school. He was an "average" pupil but already very early interested in science and mathematics. He

did not like lessons in grammar school as they were held with strict discipline and as he was forced to learn. Whenhe turned 15 he left school without any degree and followed his family to Milan. To make up for the missed degree

he attended school in Aarau (Switzerland) from 1895 to 1896 when he successfully took his A-levels and began to

study in Zurich. His ambition was to obtain the diploma of a subject teacher for mathematics and physics. He

successfully finished his studies in July 1900.

Why is he famous? In 1905 he published important scientific works. One was his ground breaking theory of relativity.

Another was the famous formula of the world :

    Einsteins famous formula:

Why he/she is my hero? Because he was hard working and dedicated. He never gave up although he did bad at school. He

worked very hard to make a breakthrough in Science and today people are still listening to him and using his work to make

    medicine.

    My Hero

    By: Ahi Nusipepa

    Name: NKOSI JOHNSON

Age:He was born Xolani Nkosi in a township east of Johannesburg. He was born on 4 February 1989 with HIV and

was the longest surviving child born with the virus in the country. His mother has since died of Aids, and he was

adopted when he was two by a foster mother, Gail Johnson. He was 15 when he died of HIV Aids.

Appearance: "Look at him," Johnson told a local newspaper. "Half the size of bloody nothing and still fighting." He

was a black boy that was very thin and sick. He was weak and on medication.

Nkosis Life?In the absence of money for drugs, Nkosi had survived on a healthy diet, vitamin supplements and

minimising the stress of being HIV positive. Ms Johnson attempted to give him a purpose by turning him into a

spokesman for Aids awareness at a time when the country's infected population was silenced by the suffocatin

    g

stigma of fear and prejudice. But for Nkosi, who had seen his real mother die of Aids, the frightening inevitability

of his own impending death was never far away.

Hopes: To change the way people think of Aids and to help people who suffer from this disease.

Why he/she is my hero!! He made a speech for the world to listen to. I hate having AIDS because I get very sick

and I get very sad when I think of all the other children and babies that are sick with AIDS. I just wish that thegovernment can start giving AZT to pregnant HIV mothers to help stop the virus being passed on to their babies.

Babies are dying very quickly. I know one little abandoned baby who came to stay with us and his name was Micky.

He couldn't breathe, he couldn't eat and he was so sick and Mommy Gail had to phone welfare to have him admitted

to a hospital [where] he died. But he was such a cute little baby. I think the government must start doing it because

I don't want babies to die. HE SHOWED COURAGE, DETERMINATION, SELF CONTROL AND DEDICATION

    By: Emma Woods

    Name: Amelia Earhart

Who was Amelia Earhart? She was a

Woman Aviation Pioneer who was born in 1897, and died in 1937.

Family? Childhood was not happy for the two bright sisters. Their father was an alcoholic and lost jobs often. The

family travelled a great deal. When she died she

left a husband, sister, mother, a niece, a nephew, and many

    friends.

Why was se famouse? Amelia wanted to attend college after finishing school. But, she met some World War I (1914

    - 1918) veterans and decided to study nursing, instead.

During the war Amelia worked as a military nurse in Canada and later she became a social worker and taught English

to immigrant children. Besides work, Amelia had one hobby. She enjoyed watching airplane stunt shows, which were

popular in the 1920s. Then one day she took a 10-minute plane ride and knew what her vocation would be - she

would learn to fly. Amelia did several odd jobs and with the help of her mother, she put together the fee - $1,000.

In those days, $1000 was an extremely large amount of money. After 10 hours of instruction and several crashes,

Amelia was ready to fly. She made her first solo flight in 1921. The flight went well. By the next year, Amelia had

saved enough money to buy her own plane.

Till 1928, flying was only her hobby. This changed when Amelia received acall from Captain Hilton H Railey. He asked her to join pilots Wilmer Stultz and Louis Gordon on a flight from the

United States to England. Though Amelia was just a passenger, she became the first woman to cross the Atlantic.

The plane they flew in was 'The Friendship' and the trip was made on June 17-18, 1928. A publisher named George

Putnam wrote an article on the flight and in 1931, Amelia married him.

Why she is my hero? Because she lived her dream and became the first women to fly over the Atlantic Ocean.

ANIMAL HERO: BINTI JUAThe 8-year-old western lowland gorilla rescued a 3-year-old child who climbed a railing and fell 18 feet into the zoo's

exhibit. Zoo officials responded immediately, but it was Binti who got to the unconscious boy first and carried him to an

area where the humans could attend to him. Her own 17-month-old baby, Koola, clutched her back throughout the incident.

Binti Jua was born in 1988 at the Columbus Zoo, which has one of the most successful gorilla breeding programs in the

knowledge of American Sign Language, which she uses to communicate with humans and her Gorilla-friend, Michael.
