Ukraine has many heroes who got fame and honour protecting our country. In the past these were Kazaks but today these are people who are defending the independence and peace of the country in the east of Ukraine.

IVAN SIRKOIvan Sirko  (1610–1680) was a Cossack military leader, Koshovyi Otaman of the Zaporozian Sich and was suggested co-author of the famous legendary Letter of the Zaporozhian Cossacks that inspired many painters and writers for many centuries.

Won 65 fights with Turks and Tatars

Turks and Tatars called him Yrus-Shaitan (Rusian Devil)

Sirko is one of the nicknames of wolf

Sirko died at his estate village Hrushivka in August 11, 1680. He was buried near the Chortomlynska Sich.

The otaman is widely remembered in numerous literary works of Ivan Nechuy-Levytsky, Adrian Kashchenko, Volodymyr Malyk, Mykola Zerov, Borys Modzalevsky, and many painters.
