Director: Lluis Torner contact: [email protected] MOST RELEVANT SCIENTIFIC PROYECTS 2012 -2013 ICFO’s research can be divided into four broad thematic areas: Nonlinear photonics, quantum photonics, nano- photonics and biophotonics. To further promote interactions among ICFO groups and multidisciplinary research projects, 3 focus programs were established ICFO AT A GLANCE SPIN OFFS ICFO is proactive in fostering entrepreneurial activities and spin-off creation, with five start-up companies to date and additional initiatives in various stages of incubation. ____________________ ICFO receives important support for prototyping, tech transfer and incubation from Prova’t, La Caixa Obra Social + Generalitat de Cataluya, and Valtec. INDUSTRIAL LABORATORIES The Corning-ICFO collaboration includes multi-year sponsorship of a Chaired Faculty Professorship, a Corn- ing Surfaces Laboratory, and sponsored research pro- jects of mutual interest. THE NIKON CENTER OF EXCELLENCE IN STORM @ ICFO is a unique partnership between ICFO and Nikon Instruments Europe, allowing researchers access to groundbreaking Nikon N-STORM super-resolution microscopy systems to develop unique techniques for advanced imaging and prob- ing, early diagnosis and new therapies in healthcare. OVER 30 PROJECTS ARE CURRENTLY RUNING WITH INDUSTRIAL PARTNERS. Salient examples are the collaborations with BASF (Germany) in photovoltaics and sensing; IBM (USA) in the field of renew¬able energies; Zeiss (Germany) in advanced lithography, Alter Technology (Spain) in the aerospace sector; TFM Solar (Spain) in organic photovoltaics in buildings; Emxys (Spain) in fiber sensing for space vehicles; COMSA EMTE (Spain) in sensors for industrial plants; ABB (Switzerland) in electric field sensing in high-voltage infrastructures; BBraun (Spain) in the medical sector.
