Newsletter #1 edition - 2017

RENEWAL IS THE ASSURANCE FOR CONTINUITY

Dear IBL Partners*,

This latest Newsletter is a special one. It is the rst in 2017 but also the hundredth in a series of communication with you in our existence of the last 17 years. As a dynamic organization we endeavor to act and communicate both consistency and continuous improvement. Sometime it is a gradual, travellator, progress, sometime a step up escalator shifts to reect the environment's changes. From the beginning, your partnership is based on our common believe to promote Business Ethics and Capacity Development (BE&CD), particularly for the youth and small and medium entrepreneurs. At one point we established the service of a “Resource Center for Corporate Citizenship” which seems to meet your expectation proven by the many engagement you entrusted us with to do your CSR initiatives. Initiatives which reects and enhances our ability to advocate the values we share: BE&CD.

Today, 17 years onward, our shared values endure, while the business environment we live in has moved on in an unprecedented way. Technology has not only challenged and enabled us to do business differently, it has also remapped the social and ecological backdrop which our BE&CD values were based on. We need to move on and maintain our relevance.

It did not come in a sudden, however. In the last three years we have established our positions with the Business Integrity Forum, and last year we have started our Action Forum for Indonesia's Responsible Business. We have welcomed and embraced the arrival of ISO 26000 on Social Responsibility and will continuously use it as the main reference for Corporate Citizenship. While not only working with the Corporate sector we have also built bridges with the Public sector like BAPPENAS and Government Poverty Alleviation Agency on Youth Empowerment and Sustainability, and KPK for Business Integrity. On the entrepreneurship side, our long development initiative with YES, Young Entrepreneur Startups, has now allowed us to collaboratively move to the digital world with the actors, not just with the conceptors.

The year 2017 is a watershed year. Organizationally our top professionals at the Executive Ofce has now enable us to multiply our capacity, with Mohamad Fahmi now ready to take on the Executive Director role, while our forever hero Yanti Triwadiantini take the Sustainability Adviser role focusing on avant garde initiatives that will carry us forward into the newly charted water. On the business facing end, we have made a new alliance with IDeA (Institut Deliverologi Indonesia), a foundation with integrity principles working closer to the public sector. Together we have recently launched a campaign for the proper implementation of Peraturan Mahkamah Agung no 13/2016, which provide more clarity in how Corporate Criminal Liabilities is to be addressed – both by the Law Enforcement Agencies and the Corporations themselves.

All these, are strong layers of activities above and beyond the foundation of your trust to IBL as Resource Center for Corporate Citizenship. We can be very proud to admit this, as more partners, be it corporations and like-minded institutions like ASEAN CSR Network, International Youth Foundation, Oxfam, GIZ and USAID has acknowledged and engaged us to cooperate on joint initiatives.

May I, at this junction, reects on those developments and introduce our new tagline: Integrity.Capacity. Sustainability. Not only that this is intended to resonate with the state of affairs that we are all in, but also to renew our resolve to always be holding our values while keeping relevant to your own intention and vision, for now and the years to come. We also realize that the IBL machine can be a hollow sphere without your continued support and partnership, for that I thank you for your past collaboration and looking forward to an even more intense and substantive contribution.

Looking forward to be with you all in the next stage of our journey toward a more prosperous, ethical and fair life in our nation.

My best regards,Heru PrasetyoChairman, IBL Board of Patrons

Work Readiness Assessment-Pilot (WRA-Pilot) is a pilot project of International Youth Foundation (IYF). WRA-Pilot is a technology-based tool to measure competencies of youths in readiness for work. This Pilot project has been tested in several countries which have partnership with IYF and one of them is Indonesia. IYF has offered Indonesia Business Links (IBL) as a partner in Indonesia on helping to test the tool. As we know, IBL in partnership with IYF, for several projects has been using 'Passport To Success' curriculum as one if its life-skills training approach for its targeted youth beneciaries, either in employability or in entrepreneurship initiatives. IBL agreed to help IYF on testing 'Work Readiness Assessment' tool on Indonesian youth, especially those who have been trained by IBL using PTS curriculum.

The assessment has been held in two phases at difference site and time. Phase one, the assessment was held in Bekasi, Batam, Karawang, Cikarang and Cikampek when December 18, 2016 and phase two was held on January 14/15, 2017 at the same sites as on the rst phase. Time needed to complete the test of WRA-Pilot is approximately 60 minutes. But in this pilot project the test took 90-120 minutes. The participants who take the assessments are beneciaries from previous IBL's youth empowerment program who have completed PTS Life Skills Training on Equip Youth II Program and Skilled Youth Program. Number of targeted youths in this project were minimum 300 youths. We hope the result of the assessment will help the participants to apply to the companies.
