WHO THE FRAK IS RON D. MOORE?Deeply rooted in the sci-fi genre, Ronald D. Moore got his start in the entertainment business onthe writing staff of Star Trek: The Next Generation. During his tenure there, he wrote or co-wrote27 episodes, including the two-hour series finale All Good Things, for which he won a HugoAward in 1994. In 1994, Moore joined the writing staff of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine assupervising producer and was elevated to co-executive producer the following year. Moore spentfive seasons on the series until the end of its successful run in 1999.Moore also served briefly as Executive Consultant on USA Cable’s series Good vs. Evil beforejoining the staff of Roswell as executive producer. After two seasons in that post, he took over thereins as showrunner from creator Jason Katims in its final year. In the fall of 2002, Moore wasnamed show-runner and executive producer of HBO’s critically-acclaimed one-hour dramaCarnivale.

In 2003, Moore created the re-imagined series, Battlestar Galactica and served asShowrunner/Executive Producer of the series which ran for four seasons. Battlestar was honored

with a prestigious Peabody Award and twice as an official selection of the AFI (American Film Institute) top television programs for 2005and 2006. In 2006, Ron was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Writing in a Dramatic Series, and in 2008, he won an Emmy for theBattlestar Galactica webisodes.

In 2008, Moore co-wrote the pilot to the spin-off series Caprica, a drama set fifty-eight years before the events of Battlestar Galactica, andcurrently serves as executive producer for the series.

I-CON AWARDS & BANQUETEach year I-CON holds the Awards Banquet honoring guests foroutstanding achievements in their field or genre. This year, we arepleased to announce that the Awards Banquet will be held onceagain at the Holiday Inn Ronkonkoma on Saturday evening March27, 2010 starting at 5:30pm. Many of the guests will be thereespecially the honorees.The banquet is a served buffet with suchentrees as herb chicken, flank steak, vegetable lasagna, salmonwith butter dill sauce and penne a la vodka. The meal will alsoinclude salad, potato, vegetables and dessert. There will be a cashbar but the soda is free. The tickets are $35 for adults and $15 forchildren under 12. They will be available shortly online and also at

the box office. If you wish to buy tickets when you send in your membership, just include a separatepiece of paper specifying “banquet tickets” with your name(s) and the number of tickets. You caninclude the amount in the same check. Your tickets will be available to you when you pick upmemberships at pre-reg. If you are staying at the Holiday Inn, you will have time to relax afterwardsso that you can enjoy the Masquerade which will begin at 10pm. Or, there will be shuttle buses to takeyou back to the campus to enjoy more I-CON programming! Either way, an exciting evening and whoknows...you may even meet your favorite guest one on one in the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel.

The time has almost come. Hope everyone has been practicingand getting ready for I-CON 29's second year of Anime Idol!Do you think you have talent? Do you love singing your favoritesongs from your favorite anime/video games and want to showyou have what it takes? Then Anime Idol is for you!

For those who don't yet know, Anime Idol is a singing competitonthat will take place on Saturday and Sunday of the conventionwith auditions via online. Further information pertaining to onlineauditions are on the website for your convenience. Do nothesitate! Slots are still open and awaiting your entry! Get thosevoices warmed up because there will be fantastic judges andgreat prizes for those who rank highest in English and Japanese.

Cosplay is a perennial animeconvention favorite. See yourfellow con-goers dressed upas your favorite characters -from any genre! If you haveyet to see one live, make sureyou make it to the I-CON 29Cosplay Competition!If you want to have yourcostume judged but don't havea skit idea, then the CosplayFashion Show is for you! TheCosplay Fashion Show willtake place right after theCosplay Contest, prior to theawards ceremony. If you justwant to cosplay around theconvention areas and have nointention of participating in

either contest, you do not needto register. Cosplay is beingused here to refer to the on-stage contest or fashion show,not cosplaying in general.Entries are judged forcraftsmanship & presentation.This is our Saturday nightstage event. Craftsmanshipjudging sessions are not opento public viewing.

FOR THOSE WHO MAY NOT KNOW ABOUTCOSPLAY, the basic gist is that it's a fun event inwhich the entire purpose is to dress in costumeand show your talent! You and your friends havethe opportunity to make costumes, perhaps do alittle skit for added interest, and show it all off tohundreds of other people. Best of all, you have

the opportunity to win sweet prizes – all for the cost of aregular Icon admission! We're taking steps to make sure thatthis year's Cosplay is bigger and better than ever, so getstarted on those costumes and join us for all the fun,excitement and drama sure to ensue!

AMV'sallow for fans to view theirfavorite shows through thelens of music. AMV's canshow a completely new way tolook at an old classic, inspire

a fan to seek out somethingnew to watch, or just provideenjoyment. AMV contestsallow the editors to show offtheir hard earned skills tohundreds of fans. This year thecontest will allow contestantsto submit two AMV's to bettershow off their skills. Entries aredue March 8, 2010. This year we are excited at our guest line up for I-CON 29. Iwould like to call I-CON 29 the independent Press andFreelance year as all of our guests have worked in or haveworked as freelancers, or publishers. We are pleased to

annouce our guests of honor Slugfest Games. SlugFest Gameshas been in existence since 2002 and has grown from ahumble company based out of a Long Island apartment to agaming behemoth based out of several homes and apartmentson two coasts! Slugfest Games is no stranger to I-CON as bothowners were once (and still are) beloved staff members. OurRobin D. Laws award for the best in gaming innovations goesto Miskatonic River Press. Miskatonic River Press was foundedin May of 2008 by Call of Cthulhu® great, Keith “Doc” Herber.A noted author and editor, and a Lovecraftian visionary. AfterDoc’s untimly death partner Tom Lynch took the mantle andhas been running the company with Doc’s passion. Returning

to I-CON this year is Jess Hartley. For the last ten years, JessHartley has worked as a novelist and freelance writer, editorand game developer. She has written extensively for WhiteWolf Publishing, for the World of Darkness core game line,Vampire: The Masquerade, Werewolf: The Forsaken, Mage:The Awakening, Promethean: The Created, Changeling: TheLost, Hunter: The Vigil, Geist: The Sin-Eaters, Exalted (SecondEdition), and Scion. She's also done work in the gamingindustry for Margaret Weis Productions on the SupernaturalRPG line. Also returning to I-CON is IndIRpg, a group of NewEngland and Not so New Englandy Game Designers andPublishers who’s works have been seen through R.Talsoriangames, Eden Studios, Exile Game Studios and small presscompanies Chapter 13 Press and Dilly Green Bean Games.We have other gaming greats to mention such as AaronRosenberg Author and Game Designer and a special showingof the Dead Gentlemen’s Productions “The Gamers & TheGamers II”.
