Great Mexican Food Fiesta Grill & Cantina in Arcata is a great place to enjoy delicious, authentic

Mexican food. Opened by Rogelio and Guillermina Luna, the restaurant’s food refl ects their heritage, culinary traditions and culture from Jalisco and Guanajuato, Mexico. Savor meals like Costillas, a dish of pork ribs in a rich brown sauce made with tomatillos and dried chiles, or Beef Milanesa, a dish of top sirloin breaded and fried served with rice, beans and choice of sides.

As the youngest of a family of 12, Rogelio observed the pleasure that good food could bring at his family’s small cafe in Guanajuato. He brought this pleasure with his talents to Arcata to serve the best Mexican food in the fi nest dining facility possible.

The Fiesta Grill & Cantina is open for lunch and dinner and has its “family” of staff offering excellent service and great food, along with a full bar. The Sports Lounge offers a big tequila selection and features four TVs and a jukebox. Enjoy special prices and appetizers at Happy Hour from 3 to 6 p.m.

The Best Italian Food on the NorthcoastMazzotti’s on the Plaza, overlooking the famous Arcata Plaza, is home to a long

tradition of serving fi ne Italian food on the north coast. In 1974 the Mazzotti Family opened the fi rst Mazzotti’s Restaurant in Eureka and after many years there they decided to open the Arcata location in 2001. Since that time Mazzotti’s on the Plaza has become one of the premier restaurants in Humboldt County.

Offering authentic Italian dishes and specialties, eating at Mazzotti’s on the Plaza is a true culinary delight. Enjoy items like their Spinach Pie Calzone or the popular Smoked Salmon Pizza with goat cheese. Or try one of their great sandwiches like the famous Hitman, or the delicious BBQ Tri-Tip sandwich. Mazzotti’s on the Plaza is also a good place for seafood and steak. They have wild caught Grilled Halibut and Baked Salmon, or grilled Rib-eyes, Filets and Prime Rib. Alternatively, for the vegetarian they have a grilled portabella sandwich and a delicious eggplant parmesan sandwich.

Mazzotti’s on the Plaza uses only the freshest, local, organic ingredients whenever possible. Whether in their handmade ravioli, fresh basil pesto or in their excellent salads they are committed to offering you only the best.

“Come enjoy a meal. Have a glass from our wine selection, or a pint of one of our eight unique, crafted beers on tap at our full service bar. We look forward to serving you.” ~The Mazzottis

All You Can Eat Buffet, Featuring Fresh SushiOriental Buffet has been a dining sensation since hitting the North Coast in

2005. The dishes are prepared fresh and are visually stunning—from the fresh sushi bar, where you can watch the sushi chef prepare your favorites, to the Mongolian-style grill where you choose your ingredients and sauces before they are cooked in front of your eyes.

What makes Oriental Buffet different is the sheer selection and quality of food we provide: items like crab legs, mussels, oysters and many varieties of shrimp. For the kids, we feature a dessert bar, which includes soft-serve ice cream, cakes, pastries and a wide variety of sweets to complement our main courses. There is also a fresh fruit bar where you can load up on a wide assortment of seasonal fruits. The Fortuna location serves beer and wine.

The newer facilities cater to families, groups or private parties. Perhaps the best thing about Oriental Buffet is affordable pricing. The Lunch Buffet is only $7.25, and the Sunday and Dinner Buffet are only $10.95 (plus tax). There is a special Senior Discount, a discount for children 3 to 10 years, and children under 3 are free. Oriental Buffet is located just north of Arcata off Highway 101 in the Valley West Shopping Center in Arcata, and at 751 S. Fortuna Blvd., in the Redwood Village Shopping Center in Fortuna.

A Taste of Hawaii — E Komo Mai!The Banana Hut truly represents owners Ken and Fatima’s vision of a tropical

paradise, a “bit of Hawaii,” here on the mainland. The Banana Hut began in a small trailer, became Humboldt County’s fi rst Hawaiian plate lunch restaurant from the kitchens at Redwood Acres Fairgrounds, and has fi nally found home on 5th St. in Eureka. Fatima made the sun and painted the sky that adorn the ceiling. Her wax fl owers can be seen on the walls, and art that Ken and Fatima collected over the years adorns the walls as well. Ken learned how to attach booths to fl oors, and put the thatch up, decorating it with robotic butterfl ies. The Punkah fans on the ceiling were inspired by the Long Bar at the Raffl es Hotel in Singapore. A salt water fi sh tank is set up on the wall. The restaurant continues to “morph” with the 2012 expansion of the restaurant to include a banquet area and soon to be famous tiki bar.

New lunch and dinner menu items are being tested continuously, like Kalua Pig Fries. This is a meal in itself: regular french fries topped with Kalua pig, homemade brown gravy, two kinds of melted cheese, and sprinkled with green onions for a vegetable. This appetizer is so good it should be a new food group. Other dinner items include Babyback ribs with pineapple glaze, Lomi Lomi salmon, Ahi poke, pork chops, Huli Huli chicken, Chicken Adobo, caramelized tofu, and peel-and-eat garlic shrimp inspired by the North Shore shrimp trucks of Oahu.

House of Omelettes and Much MoreThe Chalet in Eureka was purchased by Vera Johnson March 1, 1975. The

building was originally an ice cream parlor and only seated eight people. By 1981 the restaurant had expanded to nearly double its size and became known for its hamburgers and soft serve ice cream. Over the years, with more remodeling and hard work it has turned into the business that it is today.

The Chalet is a favorite of locals and visitors alike. They are known for having some of the fi nest omelettes in Humboldt County. Using only the freshest ingredients available, the restaurant has won the Times Standard’s restaurant awards for “Best Breakfast” and “Best of the North Coast” many times over. They offer great food, excellent service, a warm friendly atmosphere, and serve a complete breakfast and lunch menu all day.

Except for a minor repair job due to fi re damage, The Chalet in Eureka has been open 365 days a year for the past 36 years. And while Vera is not part of the daily operation of the restaurant anymore, the business is still part of the family. Her son Bill, a retired warrant offi cer from the U.S. Marine Corps now manages the restaurant, making sure the same dedication and service that have made The Chalet a local favorite since 1975 still continues today.

Prior to meeting John, Gina had never eaten South East Asian food. Her new found love of his family’s recipes, combined with Gina’s love of cooking, was the foundation for MeKong Café.

Gina and John’s customers rave over the variety and quantity of fresh, seasonal vegetables in favorites like stir fry and curry dishes. MeKong Café uses authentic ingredients in every dish, such as: Galanga, Kieffer Lime Leaf, Lemongrass and toasted Kawot Kua. MeKong Café offers beer, wine and Ku cocktails. Savor Old Town. Taste Oberon. One hundred years ago Dick’s New Oberon was a popular dining and drinking

establishment in Eureka’s Old Town. Reopened in 2008, Oberon Grill has become equally popular as a dining destination. Using the old photograph of Dick and his barkeeps as inspiration, the Kohl family has brought back the building to its original glory. The beautiful mahogany bar was built by Wallace and Hinz, local bar manufacturers. The columns on the bar mirror the detail on the front of the building, as well as the features on the old photograph.

Chef Nicholas Kohl has created a menu featuring California fl avors. With a focus on quality steaks and fresh seafood, Oberon Grill serves up American food with a twist. Chef Nicholas offers nightly specials with market fresh ingredients. Herb encrusted Prime Rib is featured on Friday and Saturday nights. Fresh Crab is available in season. We serve breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, and Lunch and Dinner on Tuesday through Sundays

Upstairs, Oberon Grill’s Ruby Room is available for private parties. Seating for 15 to 35, the Ruby Room offers quiet dining overlooking the main dining fl oor.

Creating simple cocktails with complex fl avors is the idea behind Oberon Grill’s classic bar drinks. We have selected top quality spirits from around the world to add to our West Coast selection of wines.

Neighborhood Café with Beer and Wine BarIn 2011 Ramone’s expanded its bakery & cafe on Harrison Avenue by moving

next door after thoroughly remodeling the new site. This new urban style café has quickly become the hub of the neighborhood, with a comfortable, colorful, and casual ambiance. In addition to everything you enjoy from Ramone’s Bakery, the new café includes hot breakfasts daily with Sunday Brunch specials, dinner specials after 5 p.m., beers on tap and a remarkable and well-planned wine list that is kept interesting with frequent updates.

The newly installed kitchen prepares meals with an emphasis on local produce and ingredients. All breads used are baked in-house, and Ramone’s Bakery also roasts its own coffee.

As you enter the café, colors and beautiful furnishings will take your eyes around the room. But be sure to explore the place as every corner holds a surprise such as the deli case, the sheltered back patio, and the beautiful bar and farm table created by local woodworkers. You will quickly feel at home here and recognize this to be the perfect place to come alone or with friends for a glass of wine, a casual meal, or simply for a cup of coffee and a sweet treat. Should you fi nd a reason for an impromptu celebration, chose a cake, torte or delicate pastry from the display case, and complement it with a glass of champagne!
