Recommended for peoplewith knee problems ordecreased leg strength.

1. Plan ahead before lifting.
2. Lift close to your body.
3. Feet shoulder width apart.
4. Bend your knees and keep your back straight.
5. Tighten your stomach muscles.
6. Lift with your legs.
7. If you are straining, get help.

Have you checked the object before you try to lift
it?
Test every load before you lift by pushing theobject lightly with your hands or feet to see
how easily it moves. This tells you about howheavy it is.

Make sure the weight is balanced and packedso it won't move around. Loose pieces inside abox can cause accidents if the box becomes
unbalanced.

Be sure you have a tight grip on the objectbefore you lift it. Handles applied to the objectmay help you lift it safely.

There are many different lifting techniquesavailable to you to lift an object. Choosing thecorrect one will depend on the answers to previousquestions but always remember to lift with yourlegs NOT your back.
