How to Stand Out in a Conference
Without being a
douche, and even
if you aren’t a speaker!
We all attended a conference once
If you still haven’t attended one, it’s sad…
It’s a great way to connect with industry communities
And don’t forget the freebies!
However…
Why just attend when you can stand out?
BUT…
Getting your name out there when you are attending a conference is
not an easy task!
Speakers get the limelight
Same for the annoying ones
But what if I told you
that there are other ways to get noticed?
Just remember4 things
Just remember4 things
• Be fun• Be creative• Be smart• Be confident
…
Need more explanations?
Be Fun!
Be a wittyperson
But don’t be a total asshole
When on breaks
It’s a good way to get those people on your industry to
notice you
Wear a smile
Nobody likes
someone so serious
Be Creative!
Check your clothes
Wear something noticeable
yet proper!
But notwith too
much “swag”
Prepare your offline peripherals
• Business cards
• Flyers
• Etc.
Be creativeand try out new stuff to hand out
These guys can help you get it done right
a long way
A little creativity
often goes a long way
a long waya long way
a long waya long way
Be Smart!
Prepare smart questions
for anyone you encounter
Use situational questions
Make it as an “antagonist” approach, but don’t get too cocky
Cocky piece of !@#$%^&
Back your questions with hard data
“According to statistics…blahblahblah… what is your take on this?”
Avoid questions [to speakers] like:
“How do you see ______ 5 years from now?”
“What is your biggest achievement?”
“What made you do ______?”
These questions are redundantAnd does not add value to any conversation!
You can mostly find out about speakers on their sites/profiles
So why
bother
asking?
Be Smart and don’t make an ass out of yourself!
But all of these boils downon how you can…
Be Confident.
Show a bright attitude!
Stop being by yourself and
go connect with others
Ask questions to other people
(not only the speakers!)
Be ready for other questions as well
Don’t shrug
off
People who want to talk to you
Don’t be afraid of making mistakes
But learn from it!
A conference is a portal to a vast universe of possibilities
It’s up to you whether to jumpthrough it…
Or be forever unknown
Thank you!
Due to the number of images I used on thisslideshow (which are not mine T_T) I decided to make a Google Spreadsheet of where I got those images.
Thank you so much!
And to you, dear reader, as well, for reaching this page!
