Science Direct is a scientific database offering full-

text access to over 13 million articles in nearly 2,500

journals.

Nescot subscribes to the Life Sciences and Health

collections. Subjects covered include Biological

Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology,

Immunology, Neurosciences, Medicine, Health and

Veterinary Science.

To get access to this electronic resource off-campus, you

need to have created an Athens Account. If you don’t

have one yet, please contact the LRC Help Desk (020

STEP 1 Log in to Weblearn

Log in to Weblearn at: http://weblearn.nescot.ac.uk/

STEP 2 Open the database in your course

Go to your course and find the e-resources and e-books

section. Click on ‘Science Direct’ to gain access to the

database.

STEP 3 Sign in

On the upper right, open the ‘Sign in’ tab to log in.

STEP 4 Log in using OpenAthens

Click on the ‘OpenAthens login’ link.

STEP 5 Authentication Point

Enter your Athens username (ness0------) and password.

STEP 6 Search

Enter keywords in the search box for a basic search (e.g.

ankle ligaments). You can refine your search by adding

the authors name or the title of the journal you are

looking for.

STEP 7 Search Results

Then you get a list of results that match your search. The

articles that have a green symbol to the right of them

allow you full-text access.

STEP 8 Filter results

Use the filters on the left hand side to make your search

more precise by limiting the results to Year, publication

title, Type, Content Type. The list will be refreshed once

you click Apply filters.

STEP 9 Bibliographic details

Every article you find includes full bibliographic

information such as article title, author, journal title,

volume, date and number of pages. You will need this

information in your bibliography and references if you

use the article in your assignment.
