Personal Computer
• Personal computer is a micro computer designed to be used by an individual user.
• It’s a machine that allows users to perform every tasks.
• Personal Computers are widespread among home users and in businesses.

History of Computers
• Charles Babbage invented the Analytical Engine in 1830.
• Tommy Flowers invented Colossus which was the worlds first electronic, and programmable computer in 1943.
• John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert invented the Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer (ENIAC) in 1946.
• The Innovation of the Integrated Circuit (1959) and the Microprocessor (1971) reformed the computer.

History of Personal Computers
• John Lentz invented IBM 610 in 1957.
• Personal Computers first appeared in the late 1970’s.
• Steve Wozniak 1977 invented Apple II in 1977, which was the one of the first and most popular personal computer in that time.
• In 1981 the IBM PC quickly began personal computer of the choice.
• The term “Personal Computer” got popular with the IBM PC.

How has the PC changed our lives?
• Everyday activities such as checking email, typing documents and surfing the internet.
• Gaming and entertainment purposes.
• Social Networking.
• Banking and shopping online without leaving the house.
• Companies make computer models before they are manufactured.

• Earning money online from money making websites.
• Working more efficiently and more effectively.
• Computers have become portable so we can carry it anywhere.
• Sharing videos, photos and ideas has become much more easier.
How has the PC changed our lives?

Advantages
• Used for educational, medical, entertainment purposes etc.
• Practically unlimited number of data can be stored.
• Simple and Complex calculations can be done in seconds.
• Data manipulation and problem solving can be done faster, efficiently and more accurately.

Disadvantages
• Children are much addicted to PC gaming.
• PC’s can be contributed to criminal activities such as hacking and stealing information.
• Information can be deleted, lost or stolen.
• System failures can cause loss of data.
• Replaced people in employment

Present
Today Personal Computes comes in different types.
• Desktop Computers• Gaming Computers• Notebooks• Netbooks• Tablet PCs• Pocket PCs• Smartphones
• Desktop PC’s are not portable.
• Desktop PC’s are used by everyday users to perform daily tasks.
• Gaming PC’s are used to play graphic intensive computer games.
• Desktop PC’s are much cheaper than Gaming PC’s.
• Desktop Easy to upgrade.

• Notebook is a replacement for desktop computers.
• Notebooks are smaller and portable than laptops and it has a longer battery life.
• All notebooks are laptops, but not all laptops are notebooks.
• Notebooks are mostly used by students, travellers and businessmen.

• Netbooks are smaller in size compared to Notebooks.
• Very portable and lightweight.
• Very inexpensive and has omitted features compared to a notebook.
• Netbooks are widely used by frequent travellers to check email and surf the internet.

• Tablet PC is a computer with a touch screen.
• Easy to use and portable.
• Used for entertainment and business purposes.
• Can get damaged easily.
• Cost more than a Netbook.

• It has some of the abilities of modern desktop computer.
• Pocket PC’s are powerful even thou they are small in size.
• Does not differ with features compared to a Netbook, except size.
• Used by frequent travellers.

• Computers are being replaced by Smartphones.
• Smartphone is a phone, computer, camera, music and video player, document editor and organizer all in one.
• Social Networking in your hard wherever you go anywhere in the world.
• Cost same as a laptop.

• Keyboards are being replaced by Touchscreens.
• Computers with Transparent displays.
• Computers will change our lifestyle and control everything we do.

• Personal Computer is a microcomputer used by a single user.
• Computers comes in different types such as Notebooks, Pocket PC, Tablet PC etc.
• Smartphone is now also a type of computer due to the similar functions it has.
• In the future, computers will be touchscreens and transparent and much more smarter and faster.
