How my research and target audience feedback has

helped develop my thriller opening sequence

Narrative With audience feedback we gathered as a group over the research and planning and asking people

at the BFI trip, we discovered that people wanted us to make it a clear plot and know they understood what was happening with the protagonist and so that he looked like his mind was manipulated and was bugging out.

We want to make Rhydian look like a middle aged, nervous and slightly geeky man so that he would be relatable and look like quite odd and unpredictable.

The narrative we take place mostly in the protagonists house, our audience wanted us to show an original view of a house and have the corners and curves be a challenge for the disorientated man, when he is traveling down his house to go out.

Overall our audience and research were telling us to make the opening sequence that really showed a hallucinogenic to show the true power of mind control, and have an eerie atmosphere that portrayed a psychological thriller that contained effective glitches and transitions.

Characters For our character we wanted him to be different yet fit the codes and

conventions of a thriller genre character. Our villain would have a missing identity to keep his features and personality covered by a hood and dark lighting. We thought this would be powerful and keep the audience engaged and asking questions. We want our protagonist to kind of freak out the audience so they find him odd, however relatable.

Titles In our opening our audience asked us to make the title fit the message of the opening,

since we where introducing glitches we thought that we could put some glitches in the title so it looked like everything had glitches, and smoothly transitioned into the introduction of our characters. Our title will be called ‘Intimation’ and so we will make it appear, glitch and finally disappear.

Sound and Shots We want to link our sound and shots together effectively to fit the thriller genre, and

make the audience aware. When our protagonist is walking our audience wanted fast paced music so that they were kept on the edge, we want to use sounds that create anticipation and create scared emotions for the audience. One of the main sounds we will use is the sound of a heartbeat.

We tried to limit the amount of dialogue in our opening sequence so that we could use sound.

We want to use a range of effective shots, we will use an establishing shot tat the start to show the settings, we want to use a variety of close up and extreme show the characters emotions and fear. We will get a range of shots to capture match on action, shot reverse shot and more.
