During that assign- ment, he was concurrently attached to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mobile Communications Command, Wash- ington, DC. He resigned from the Army in 1968 and went to work for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co, putting to use much of the training he’d re- ceived from “Uncle Sam”. While on rotational assignment to the AT&T General Departments in New Jersey, he joined the Army Reserves, and retired from the Military Intelligence Corp in 1999 with over 25 years of combined service. Dear Nobles & Families of Aahmes Shriners wither so ever dispersed,
First, I wish you a very happy & prosperous New Year, and thank you for elect-
ing me as your 100th Potentate! Though my title is Potentate, I choose to think of
myself as the “caretaker” of Aahmes for lucky 2013. As such, it is my duty to hand
it off to my successor, in at least as good condition as received, if not better! My
goals are to steer Aahmes along the road of excellence in 2013, and to maintain
at least silver, if not gold membership status! Teamwork makes a difference! To-
gether, we can do it!
Having survived the Mayan disaster of Dec. 21st, as I sit here on a dark and
dreary fi rst winter’s day, I realize several things. First, it gives new meaning to the
adage, “Friends are the sunshine of life”. I can truly say that my bucket of sunshine
is overfl owing! It also leads me to realize that while I have much to say, and a bare thirty-fi ve square inches in which to say it, writers block can be overwhelming!
By the time you’ve received this issue, we will have had a very successful Traveler’s night & Presentation in January. Lady Barbara and I thank everyone who had a hand in making them a success, especially Ill. Sir Terry Moody, PP, Lady Vesta, and all their hard working committees! We have attended Presentations for Tehran, Asiya, and Kerak, and look forward to Ben Ali’s BASCO days. We have also had “Offi cial Visits” to the Aahmes Patrol and Sonoma County Shrine Club.
There are many great events planned for this year. Please, get out and attend as many as you can. Mutual support amongst the Units and Clubs is essential to the health and welfare of our Temple. For the “younger” Nobles, who still have childcare needs, we will be providing supervised, on-site childcare for Temple events IF we know in advance! This will help you by easing some of your $$ output, while giving a little boost to our youth groups. We will start this service with the Crabfeed on February 9th. When you make reservations, please let your ticket seller, or the front offi ce know, so we can plan accordingly.
Our membership program for 2013 is, I believe, an aggressive one with em-phasis on taking our message down to our roots, the Blue Lodge! Please see the outline of that program elsewhere in this issue. We will hold our “Blue Lodge Night at the Shrine” March 27th. Letters have gone out to all the Lodges in our jurisdic-tion, inviting their Offi cers and members, especially non-Shriners to this event. The cost will be $15 for Shriners but, if they bring a proposed candidate, a completed application, and a check for initiation & fi rst year dues with them, they will be free. Proposed candidates and other non-Shriners will also be free!
All this leads to our fi rst Ceremonial of the year, a fi ve-Temple Ceremonial in Reno the 30th -31st of May, and the 1st of June. More details on the itinerary will be coming out shortly. In the meantime, get out there and get your candidates! There are plenty, as only 23% of the Master Masons in our jurisdiction are members of Aahmes or, another Shrine Temple. I believe we will have a great 1st class. We will also have at least one more Ceremonial, and cold/warm sands as needed, or requested by our Units and Clubs.
My project will be to continue to build the fund for Temple maintenance. Lady Barbara’s will be for the benefi t of the Pediatric Orthotics and Prosthetic Service (POPS) Shriners Hospital, Northern California.
Well that’s about it, my time is up for this issue, so until next time, I remain
Yours In The Faith!
Jerry

MEMBERSHIPThe Power of ONE
“Only YOU Can Make It Work!”
The 2013 AAHMES Membership Program builds on, and expands the 1-in-3 program begun in 2012. Following is the award criteria
for both individuals, and Units & Clubs. As always, the number one incentive will continue to be the preservation of Aahmes Shriners.
Each number below, except for 1 , the basic unit of the decimal system, is a “prime number”. A “prime number” is divisible only
by 1 and itself. Membership is OUR prime initiative, and all AAHMES Nobles should work toward building OUR bottom line. Each
and every Noble of AAHMES is a member of OUR membership team! If we achieve OUR membership goals, WE will be indivis-
ible! Exploit the “Power Of One”. It is up to YOU!
Levels for “Top Line” Signers Awards: 1 new member in 2013 1-in-3 Pin
2 new members in 2013 2 comp tickets for the Potentates ball (or choice of event)

THANK YOU!
The Offi cers of 2012 had a very successful year and accomplished this with dedication and hard work. Now we look forward to another year with new Offi cers and their programs. One of the major programs will be Member-ship. We need to concentrate on getting new members and most importantly retaining those that we have. A lot of work will be done to bring new ideas and plans to make our Shrine Center more attractive and user friendly. We must keep our younger members informed and wanting to come and join in our activities. Once again I would like to thank you for electing me as recorder for 2013.
Yours in The Faith,
Wayne Green, Recorder
Thank you to all the Units and Clubs for “getting in the news”! Aahmes website ( http://aahmes.org) has a lot of information and can always be improved.
It was recently pointed out at a Club Meeting that the Shriners Hospitals Patient Referral Form is online at: http://www.aahmes.org/Flyers/SHCNC%20PatientRefer-ralForm.pdf. Any Aahmes Nobel can refer a patient to the Shriners Hospitals and it’s our duty to do so when indicated.
If you have the time and would like to help with the
transportation of our “Kids” to the Hospital, please
call the Aahmes offi ce at 925-373-4880.
YOUR EFFORTS ARE ALWAYS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

HOSPITAL CHAIRMAN:
Terry Moody, P.P.
Call the Chairman and let him know you want to help. This is OUR philanthropy and the smile on a kid’s face is worth it all! You’ll fi nd out just why you are a Shriner.
The Shrine culture is evolving and as it changes, it affects the Hospital as well. In the last few years we have endured zero budget increases and like every household, we have had to do more with less. The Board of Governors and the leadership at the hospital in Sacramento have done an outstanding job of facing these challenges and keeping the day to day operations viable, all the while ensuring the continued excellent care for our children.
Our Screening Clinics will continue to bring children in need to our hospital, albeit with a new “Patient Referral Form”. As upsetting as change can be sometimes, without it we would not grow. Life is a learning curve with no end in sight. Enjoy the ride!
It is with great pleasure that I inform you that I have been asked to stay on as Hospital Chairman for the ensu-ing year. I have enjoyed this past year and look forward to 2013. I will also continue to be your voice in Tampa, as I sit on the Imperial Revenue Cycle Committee.

Greetings from the Nomads. First I would like to thank Roger Frazer for the great job he did as the fi rst President of the Aahmes Shriner Nomads Car Club. Our fi rst year is behind us and we are now entering our second year.
We had a lot of fun in our fi rst year at regular meetings and also Sunday breakfasts at the 50’s Diner in Knights Ferry. We had an outstanding ice cream social at Ted and Luanne Melden’s home and greatly appreciated their hospitality.
This year we have planned a joint Car Show with the Alchemist Clowns in Modesto at the Fruityard on July 20th, and a trip to Hot August Nights in Reno in August. We will be staying at Boomtown. More details on both to follow in the Aahmes News.
Anyone interested can be a member, regardless of whether or not you own a hotrod or classic car. The fi rst year’s dues are $20 and only $15 per year after that. Contact me for details and information on the next meeting.
Congratulations to our newly elected offi cers! The Modesto Shrine Club Nobility have entrusted me to be their President for 2013, and I will strive to fi ll the big shoes of the excellent presidents who came before me, many of whom are also Shrine Clowns, so you know their shoes are quite large. Dave Garcez will serve as our Vice President, Rocky Gould will serve as our Secretary, and Jack Helsby will serve as Treasurer. Outgoing president, Jake Van Holland, left us with a great jump start on the new year, and we thank him and all of the 2012 offi cers and directors for their hard work and dedication.
February will be a quiet month for us with just our monthly meeting on February 11th. However, by the time of this pub-lication, the Modesto Shrine Club will have completed our annual Crab and Prime Rib Feed in January. There will be more details on this event once we have completed it. Also, we will be gearing up for our Offi cial Visit from the Potentate on Saturday, March 2nd. We are looking forward to having Potentate Jerry Journeay and his Divan join us for an excel-lent dinner and fun festivities. It is always a great time, and we hope many of the Nobility and their ladies will join us.
---Douglas Husted, President
The Contra Costa Shrine Club had the installation of offi cers at the brunch at the Brass Door in San Ramon on January 27th. Installed were Verner Laursen as president, Phillip McAllister as 1st vice president, Mike Cornell as second vice president, Ron Burch as treasurer and Orren Rupert as secretary.
In March we will be having a luncheon at a time and place to be announced.
Planning has started and is continuing for the offi cial visit and brunch on Sunday May 19th at the Crow Canyon Country in San Ramon. Tickets are not yet available, but Sandy is working on getting them printed.
---Verner Laursen,
President
We would like to thank those who brought toys and other items requested by the Northern California Shriners Hospital in Sacramento for the patients there to our dinner on December 19th. Two large sacks of gifts were delivered the next day to the hospital. The hospital staff really ap-preciates such donations.
At our December dinner meeting, Noble Mark Finger was unanimously elected to serve as President of the Club for another year. Also reelected were Gerald Woergoetter, Vice-President; Jim Westfall, Secretary; Wayne Crawford, Treasurer; and Andy Gravier, Ambassador. Of course, we are all looking forward to continuing to have Honored Lady Barbara Rosenberg’s assistance in her capacity as Chief Coordinator.
It was also decided at the December meeting to change our name from Alameda Shrine Club to Alameda
County Shrine Club, in case any Aahmes members were under the impression that membership in our Club is re-stricted to those who live in the City of Alameda, which it is not. In fact, not only are all Nobles living in Alameda County encouraged to attend our dinners, all Shriners wherever so dispersed are invited to join us. They can be members of any Temple and living anywhere in the world – they are only limited by how far they wish to travel to attend.
Our Club does not have a formal membership ap-plication or process for new members. If you would like to join the Alameda County Shrine Club, all you have to do is mail a check payable to the club in the amount of $6.00 to Treasurer Wayne Crawford, 1716 Cornell Drive, Alameda, CA 94501. You will then be placed on our email or snail mail lists to make sure you receive our Alameda County Shrine Club dinner notices. If you have any questions about the Club or the February Potentate’s Offi cial Visit, please give me a call (510-797-8067) or send me an email at [email protected] . We would love to have you join us!
---Jim Westfall, Secretary
By the time you read this, we will have already had our New Years Outing at the Kit Fox RV Park in Patterson. Our next Outing is Feb 8th and 9th (leaving on the 10th) at the Duck Island RV Park in Rio Vista. This is a great Park as it sits right on the water, with a lovely view.
The following is our Schedule of Outings for 2013...so you can plan your calendars.
As you can see, we have a great year planned and we would love to see as many RV's as possible join us for these events.
If you need any more info, drop me an email ([email protected]) and I will get back to you.
Drive safe,
---Roger Frazer - President
