Greetings Nobles and Ladies! I’m writing this month’s message to all of you just a couple of days after returning from the 136th annual Im-perial Shrine Session which was held in Toronto, Canada. Your elected representatives from Tebala, myself, Bill Robertson, C.R., Dave Babcock, A. R. and John Milliren, H.P.&P. attended the Opening Ses-sion on Sunday afternoon, July 3rd as well as all of the legislative ses-sions that lasted through Thursday morning, July 8th. It is quite an ex-
perience being part of the workings of the two Shrine Corporations. This year the Iowa Corporation (Fraternity) had 22 items on the call to deal with and the Colorado Corporation (Hospitals) had 2 items on the call. I’m going to give you a short synopsis of the proceedings from the legislative sessions this year. First of all, as a result of now officially having added two (2) new temples, one in the Philippines called Mabuhay Shriners and another in Puerto Rico called Al Rai’e Saleh Shriners bringing the total number of Shrine Temples to 193, the official name of our fraternity has been changed to: Shriners International. Dispensation for a Temple in Heidelburg, Germany was also approved and if everything goes right, there will be a new Temple there next year called Emirat Shriners. At last year’s Imperial Session, 3rd party pay was approved and the first billing began on June 17, 2010. Four of the hospitals are online as of July 1st, Phila-delphia, Portland, Lexington & Spokane. As of July 8th, over $700,000 in bill-ing had been sent out already. Price Waterhouse Coopers estimates that when all 20 U. S. hospitals are online for 3rd party pay, it should generate at least $175 million a year for our hospital system. We still will not be charging the patient’s family anything for our services! Throughout the sessions, reports were given about the progress of several hos-pital improvement projects that all appear to be coming along very well, as well as a stepped up public relations program and donor relations program. My message last month included ways to donate to the hospitals and if every-one will consider doing what they can for the hospitals, we can ensure their presence well into the future. There’s a few fun events this month that I hope you’ll take advantage of. The Beach Party Luau on Friday, August 13 should be a night you won’t want to miss. The men should plan on golfing in Tebala’s Golf Play Day on August 21 (note the location change to Westlake Golf), and everyone plan to attend the Corn Boil/Family Picnic on Sunday, August 29. As always, thanks for all that you do for Tebala, the Shrine, and the children that we serve in our hospitals. Yours in the Faith, Martin McDaniel Potentate

Chaplain’s Call - Chaplain Les McClelland
WORD OF THE MONTH “Courtesy”
The meaning of this word is revealed when we use *Good manners” Examples of Courtesy are revealed when we are polite, respectful and say things like please, thank you, excuse me, holding a door open for some-one, saying yes or no sir, etc. One of the interesting comments that was communicated to me when I first joined the Blue Lodge was that a Mason is always respectful of others. It does not make any difference if another opposes our position or is choosing to behave in an un-respectful manner, as a Mason I must realize that what I do reflects not just on myself but also on every other Mason. Being Courteous is not always easy! It demands from us a willingness to rise above the issue to a higher level of perspective. To carefully select our words in a manner that communicates our point without degrading the other persons position. Being courteous means that we are willing to allow others to have their say at the time and demonstrate our own views in a different manner. Courtesy is a word that we should respect and not take lightly. Serving on a committee, working with your neighbor on a project, or simply being a good neighbor involves the activity of “Courtesy”. As a minister I have often looked upon the “Golden Rule” as a great reflection or example of Courtesy. May we all experience the blessing of Courtesy in the month of August and demonstrate it’s value through our private and public lives. Have a great August. Your Chaplain Rev Les McClelland

BLUE HAZE CHOPPERS RIDE IN BELVIDERE, ELGIN AND MT. MORRIS The Blue Haze Choppers had a very busy weekend in doing parades and some with some interesting side events attached. In Belvidere, President Joe Blanchard invented the “The Bike doesn’t Stand Up by itself” move. You ever watch the three stooges? Joe could have been in the movie. Making a turn on a narrow street in Belvidere, Joe stopped next to a curve and after stopping, balancing the bike for a split second, fell over. The three stooges couldn’t do a better job. Asked what happened, Joe replied, forgot to put my feet down, even though I was stopped. Must of thought he could balance the bike. In Elgin, new rider Todd Roberts invented the slow slide move. Turning a corner, you see a long slide line in the pavement, and then bike stops, falls over. Todd had a good sense of humor about it, but said he’d rather not repeat the performance. The crowd gave him a standing “O”. In the Elgin parade, Tom Whitaker, Joe Blanchard and Steve Morris were buzzing through the main street of Elgin to the start of the parade, closely followed by one of Elgin’s finest, when they had a OOPS! Hitting many bumps, Joes Fez fell off and his water bottle went rolling down the street. To the amazement of the Elgin PD in his cruiser, Joe stopped, started backing up while Steve Morris went facing the cruiser to catch the water bottle. After all was retrieved, off they went. I don’t believe anyone made eye-to-eye contact with the officer. When the group changed directions, so didn’t the officer. I guess he saw all the precision maneuvering and riding he wanted to see!!
