ABSTRACT: Herbal drugs constitute a major share of all the officially recognized system of health in India viz. Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy and Naturopathy, except Allopathy. More than 70% of India’s 1.1 billion populations still use these non-allopathic systems of medicine. Currently there is no separate category of herbal drugs or dietary supplements, as per the Indian Drugs Act. The common reasons for tilting of common man towards herbal drugs are frustrating side effects and lack of thecurative value in modern medicines. The purpose of present study was to document the common traditional medicine practices, assessthe local people’s preference for traditional medicines (herbal medicine) versus other different systems of medicines and lastly to determine the awareness about the different systems of medicine.

Key words: Allopathy, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Awareness, HerbalIntroduction :There are basically three types of methodology to treat a disease. Homeopathy, Allopathy and Ayurveda. All of thesemethodologies have a common goal which is to cure the disease. Each one has different origin and different way of treatment. In the present article we are going to differentiate these three methodologies their origin and the way of treatment used by them.

HOMEOPATHY: Homeopathy is a system of treatment(branch of medicalscience)works on the principle of “Similia SimilibusCurcenter”.It means like cures like, furtherexplation is that

Page 2: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

patient and medicine symtoms are similar,it also called Law OfSimilia.

Homeopathetic medicine: Homeopathy, or homeopathic medicine, is aholistic system of treatment that originated in the lateeighteenth century. The name homeopathy is derived from two Greekwords that mean "like disease." The system is based on the ideathat substances that produce symptoms of sickness in healthypeople will have a curative effect when given in very dilutequantities to sick people who exhibit those same symptoms.Homeopathic remedies are believed to stimulate the body's ownhealing processes. Homeopaths use the term "allopathy," or"different than disease," to describe the use of drugs used inconventional medicine to oppose or counteract the symptom beingtreated.

Homeopathic physicians seek to cure their patients on thephysical, mental and emotional levels, and each treatment istailored to a patient's individual needs. Homeopathy is generallya safe treatment, as it uses medicines in extremely dilutedquantities, and there are usually minimal side effects. Its non-toxicity makes it a good choice for the treatment of children.Another benefit of homeopathy is the cost of treatments;homeopathic remedies are inexpensive, often a fraction of thecost of conventional drugs.

Homeopathic treatment has been shown effective in treating manyconditions. Colds and flu may be effectively treated with aconiteand bryonia. Influenza suffers in a double-blind study found thatthey were twice as likely to recover in 48 hours when they tookhomeopathic remedies. Studies have been published in Britishmedical journals confirming the efficacy of homeopathic treatmentfor rheumatoid arthritis. Homeopathic remedies are effective intreating infections, circulatory problems, respiratory problems,

Page 3: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

heart disease, depression and nervous disorders, migraineheadaches, allergies, arthritis, and diabetes. Homeopathy is agood treatment to explore for acute and chronic illnesses, particularly if these are found in the early stages and wherethere is not severe damage. Homeopathy can be used to assist thehealing process after surgery or chemotherapy.

Page 4: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

ALLOPATHY:Allopathy is basically a part of western medical systemand is spread all over the world. Its network is very wide. It isadopted by almost all of the countries around the world.Allopathy is drug oriented methodology. Allopathy mainly dependson three things hypothesis, experimentation and the outcome ofthe experiment. This methodology basically depends onexperimentation. In this doctors treat a disease based onsymptoms not on the causes. The pill given to the patient dependson the outcome of the experiment. Suppose one got viral then hisblood is tested to check the type of viral. Depending on theoutput of the blood test the pill is given. So we can say that inallopathy there is a pill for a particular disease. There is noplace for individuality in allopathy because the same pill isgiven to all the patients having same kind of disease.

The effectiveness of allopathy in emergency is the main reasonwhy people around the world adopted allopathy. Most of the drugsgiven in allopathy have side effects. The pill given for adisease is curing that particular disease and also giving birthto another disease in the body. So allopathy has this drawback ofside effects of pills. For example the person who has fever isgiven paracetamol tablet which is responsible to bring down thebody temperature to normal condition but on the other hand it isharmful for our lever. The side effects can be internal orexternal. Once your disease is cured then you have to take pillfor the side effects caused due the pills used consumed for thetreatment. And then while curing these side effects another oneoccurs. So a chain of side effects is created due to the pillsgiven in allopathic treatment. So this is the area of concern inallopathic treatment.

Allopathic medicine:Allopathic medicine refers broadly to medicalpractice that is also termed Western medicine, evidence-basedmedicine, or modern medicine.

Page 5: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

The term "allopathy" was coined in 1810 by Samuel Hahnemann(1755-1843) to designate the usual practice of medicine(allopathy) as opposed to homeopathy, the system of therapy thathe founded. Homeopathy is based on the concept that disease canbe treated with minute doses of drugs thought capable ofproducing the same symptoms in healthy people as the diseaseitself. Although allopathic medicine" was rejected by mainstreamphysicians, it was adopted by alternative medicine advocates torefer pejoratively to conventional medicine.

“Allopathy... Incorrectly regards an ailment situated in theouter parts of the body as a local disease, thus having aseparate existence, beliving it to be cured when suppressed byexternal remedies. This way, however, it only forces the innerdisease to become manifested in a more serious manner on somenobler and more important part of the organism.”

Progress in Medicine: The allopaths often speak highly of theprogress made by the medicinal science. In connection with thisthey often mention (as has already been stated) verycontroversial subjects:

a) Transplantation and other technologically and financiallydemanding activities, with questionable ethics from the point ofview of the patient's life and the end result. It should be bornin mind here why, what sort of "treatment" has caused such aserious state of the patient, that there was no other solutionbut transplantation.

b) Treatment of diseases through antibiotics, sulphonamides, corticoids and other drugs with suppressive effects.

c) Diagnostic methods such as magnetic resonance, computertomography and similar, to effectively screen the defects onorgans. Mostly (in cases of chronic diseases) these do not lead

Page 6: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

to any effective treatment and to a cure, at best only to asurgical repression of the symptom.

d) Vaccination.

e) The rise of new theories and new branches, such as geneticengineering. With enormous investments, enormously expensivedrugs are being manufactured, which at best will be used forsymptomatic treatment and suppression of local symptoms, while along-termed negative effect on the health of the populationcannot be presently estimated, just as it was not possible at thebeginning of the era of antibiotics.

f) The quantitative expansion of personnel, the volume offinances and the overall growth of power.

Only the last point stands the proof in all consequences. Yes,allopathy does move the wheels of economy at the highest rate. Toa large degree it is responsible for the creation of nationalproduct. With its associated productions it is currently the mostextensive branch of the national economy in all developedcountries. The pharmaceutical industry alone shows yearly netprofits in the order of hundreds of billions of dollars. Toooften people are prescribed medication only for commercialreasons. The doctors are sometimes directly, sometimes indirectlybribed by pharmaceutists into prescribing and recommending moredrugs. Allopaths demand from the governments and the tax payersextraordinary sums of money for the research of new diseases, such as the AIDS, where without any tangible results manybillions of dollars are spent. The prescription drugsadministered in large quantities become a factor in the decliningstate of health of the population. This reality has been alreadyofficially recognised. In some countries the problem became apolitical matter and for instance in Germany a law was passedthat imposes limitations on the drugs prescribed bypractitioners. There is nothing wrong with business. It should

Page 7: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

not however be uncontrolled trade in people's health, in people'slives, in human souls. Well known in Germany is the book by threedoctors, non-homeopaths, K. Langbein, H.P. Martin and H. WeissBitter Pills (BitterePillen), where they analyse the drugs soldon the German market, according to their treatment values andside effects. More than 50% of the drugs they declare astherapeutically unsuitable.

Natural Allopathic Medicine introduces new principles andpractices of medicine that can be integrated into all types ofhealth care no matter what kind of practitioner you are. Itgreatly increases the throw weight of doctors and healers alikeenabling them to more effectively and safely treat serious lifethreatening illnesses like cancer, heart disease and neurologicaldisorders like Autism, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases -without resorting to dangerous pharmaceuticals, which in realitydo little to resolve chronic syndromes. Though this is a medicaltext it is also comprehensible for patients, who not only need totreat themselves, but have to understand what their doctors andpractitioners are and, most importantly, are not doing for them.

Page 8: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

AYURVEDA: It is world’s oldest known medical science, originatingin India over 5,000 years ago.Ayu means life and Veda meansknowledge so literally,it means the science of life.It explainshow each individual is a unique composition of physical andmental elements. In many ways Ayurveda is like an instructionmanual of natural living for human beings. It provides asystematic approach to health that includes a properdiet, exercise, seasonal daily practices that lead to healthyliving.Ayurveda can be defined as a system, which uses theinherent principles of nature, to help maintain health in a

Page 9: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

person by keeping the individual's body, mind and spirit inperfect equilibrium with nature.

Origin of Ayurveda:

Widely regarded as the oldest form of healthcare in the world,Ayurveda is an intricate medical system that originated in Indiathousands of years ago. The fundamentals of Ayurveda can be foundin Hindu scriptures called the Vedas — the ancient Indian booksof wisdom. The Rig Veda, which was written over 6,000 years ago, contains a series of prescriptions that can help humans overcomevarious ailments.

Principle:Ayurveda is based on the premise that the universe ismade up of five elements: air, fire, water, earth and ether. These elements are represented in humans by three "doshas", orenergies: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. When any of the doshasaccumulate in the body beyond the desirable limit, the body losesits balance. Every individual has a distinct balance, and ourhealth and well-being depend on getting a right balance of thethree doshas ("tridoshas"). Ayurveda suggests specific lifestyleand nutritional guidelines to help individuals reduce the excessdosha.A healthy person, as defined in SushrutSamhita, one of theprimary works on Ayurveda, is "he whose doshas are in balance, appetite is good, all tissues of the body and all natural urgesare functioning properly, and whose mind, body and spirit arecheerful..."

Ayurvedic medicine:Ayurvedic Medicine is the world's oldestcomprehensive health care system and is indigenous to India whereit is widely practiced. "This ancient art of healing asserts thatthe science, philosophy and spirituality are all necessaryaspects of healthy living." Thus Ayurveda is not only acomprehensive medical system but also a way of living and thevery concept of "mind, body and spirit" originates fromAyurveda. It is now one of the most recognized and widely

Page 10: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

practiced disciplines of alternative medicine in the world. Someof the popular practices of Ayurveda are Meditation, Yoga, chanting, breathing exercises, Panchakarma and Herbs.

Ayurvedic Classics: Are written in Sanskrit and are a majorsource of information:

Major Ayurvedic Classics (Brhattrayi):CharakSamhita by Charaka

CharakSamhita, which dates back to approximately 800 BCE, is amajor compendium of Ayurvedic medical theory and practice thatCharaka, an internist at the University of Taxila, compiled inSanskrit. Presented as poetry, Samhita contains more than 8,400verses in its 120 chapters. Modern Ayurvedic physicians still useSamhita in their medical training, and the text has been widelytranslated. The most widely recommended translation is one by Dr.P.V. Sharma, which contains extensive appendices and a richindex.

SushrutaSamhita by Sushruta

This surgical text, which dates back to approximately 700 BCE,contains seminal content such as the Ayurvedic definition ofhealth, information on blood, and the description of five sub-doshas of Pitta and the marma points. This volume also includespioneering techniques in skin grafting and reconstructivesurgery.

AshtangaSangraha and AshtangaHridaya by Vagbhata

AshtangaSangraha and AshtangaHridayam, dating back toapproximately 400 CE, were written by an Ayurvedic physician fromthe Sindh region of India. The Sangraha is primarily written in

Page 11: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

poetry, while The Hridayam is presented as prose. These textsdefine the five subdoshas of Kapha and emphasize the materialvalue of life. The Hridaya is still highly regarded as a primaryAyurvedic medical textbook; Srikantha Murthy's translation isrecommended for English readers.

Minor Ayurvedic Classics (Lghutrayi):

SarangadharSamhita by Sharngadhara:This text was written in the13th century CE, and is valued for its explanation of theAyurvedic concept of materiamedica, as well as for itspharmacological formulations. It is also considered the foremosttext on pulse diagnosis.

BhavPrakashNighantu by Bhavamisra:This 16th century text containsapproximately 10,278 verses of varying meters and focuses onherbal descriptions, food, the therapeutic use of trace metals, and rejuvenation therapies. Information on sexually transmitteddiseases, particularly syphilis, is also included.

MadhavaNidan by Madhava Kara: This text was written between 700CE and 1100 CE, and is valued for its precise classification ofdiseases and disease etiology, particularly in the fields ofpediatrics and toxicology. MadhavaNidan is considered the Biblefor Ayurvedic clinical diagnosis.

To maintain the health of a healthy person and cure the diseaseof a diseased:

Preventive Medicine – Creates and maintains health and longevityof an individual by maintaining balance of a person's prakturi(or constitution) by creating daily and periodic regimens. Thesehealth routines focus on diet and exercise, herbals, massage, meditation, and social behavior and positive relationships.

Curative Medicine – Treatments to cure the disease by one orcombination of the following approaches:

Page 12: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

Internal measures, including shodhana (detoxification) andshamana (methods used to improve quality of life via palliativecare).

External measures, including snehana (oil treatments), svedana(steam therapy using herbal steam), and use of herbal pastes.

Surgical methods, including removal of tissues, organs, andharmful growths.

Mental and spiritual therapies or daivyachikitsa.

Herbal therapy, including astute pharmacology.

Ayurvedic Specialties.

Ayurvedic medicine features the following eight specialtybranches. These trainings are achieved at accredited Ayurvedicmedical Schools.

Internal Medicine (Kaya-Chikitsa), which focuses on doshicimbalance, metabolic function, and digestion.

Surgery (Shalya Chikitsa).

Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat (Salakya Chikitsa).

Safety and Efficacy of Ayurvedic Medicine:

Ayurvedic Medicine is recognized by the WHO and is used safely bymillions of people. However, like any other medical system,Ayurvedic therapies have contraindications and potential foradverse effects or side effects. This is of particular concernwhen therapies are prescribed by unqualified practitioners, arenot used correctly and are abused by self prescription. Ayurvedadoes not propagate that herbs are safe. Panchakarma(detoxication) should be performed only by qualified Ayurvedicpractitioners who are trained in this sub-specialty.

Page 13: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

Consumers must bear responsibility when seeking Ayurvedictherapies to check the credentials, training, and experience ofthe practitioners. Consumers must also communicate, with theirconventional and Ayurvedic practitioners and practice fulldisclosure about the therapies they are using.

It is important to note that the United States Food and DrugAdministration does not regulate herbs or dietary supplements. The International Society for Ayurveda and Health (ISAH), aprofessional society of Ayurveda in the United States, recommendsAyurvedic therapeutic herbal use or detoxification only whenprescribed, administered and properly supervised by a trainedpractitioner.

When seeking Ayurvedic practitioner, ISAH recommends partneringwith a practitioner who holds a doctoral degree (e.g., M.D.,Ph.D., or Phys.D.) and has completed training at a recognizedAyurvedic medical school.

Further development and spread:

The field of Ayurveda flourished throughout the Indian MiddleAges; Dalhana (fl. 1200), Sarngadhara (fl. 1300) and Bhavamisra(fl. 1500) compiled works on Indian medicine. The medical worksof both Sushruta and Charaka were also translated into the Arabiclanguage during the 8th century. The 9th-century Persian physicianRhazes was familiar with the text. The Arabic works derived fromthe Gupta-era Indian texts eventually also reached a Europeanaudience by the end of the medieval period. In Renaissance Italy, the Branca family of Sicily and GaspareTagliacozzi (Bologna) areknown to have been influenced by the Arabic reception of thesurgical techniques of Sushruta. British physicians traveled to

Page 16: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

India to observe rhinoplasty being performed using nativemethods; reports on Indian rhinoplasty were published in theGentleman's Magazine in 1794. Instruments described in theSushrutaSamhita were further modified in Europe. JosephConstantine Carpue spent 20 years in India studying local plasticsurgery methods and, in 1815, was able to perform the first majorrhinoplasty surgery in the western world, using the "Indian"method of nose reconstruction. In 1840 Brett published an articleabout this technique.During the period of colonial British ruleof India, the practice of Ayurveda was neglected by the BritishIndian Government, in favor of modern medicine. After Indianindependence, there was more focus on Ayurveda and othertraditional medical systems. By 2014, Ayurveda was part of theIndian National health care system, with state hospitals forAyurveda established across the country; however, Ayurvedatreatments were not always well integrated with others, especially in allopathic hospitals.

Page 17: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

Difference between Ayurveda and Homeopathy:

Key difference: Ayurveda uses herbs and minerals to bring andkeep a body in balance. It also stresses a need for healthymetabolic system, good digestion, proper excretion, exercise, yoga, and meditation. Whereas, homeopathy follows the "laws ofsimilars" which means that to rid a person of a disease one hasto treat the person with drugs that produce the same symptoms asthe disease.

Ayurveda and homeopathy are similar in the sense that they bothuse natural remedies. However, they are various key differencesamong them. Ayurveda is much older, almost 3,500 years older thanthe much recent homeopathy. A main difference is that ayruvedabelieves in preventing a disease while homeopathy

believes in curing a disease. Ayurvedic medicine complements thescientific Allopathic medicines, where as homeopathy is againstit.

Page 18: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

Ayurveda believes that the health of a human body depends on thebalance on the three key components, wind, bile and phlegm. Ituses herbs and minerals to bring and keep body in balance. Italso stresses need for healthy metabolic system, good digestion, proper excretion, exercise, yoga, and meditation.

Homeopathy, on the other hand, believes in the "vitalist"philosophy, that various external and internal causes disturb the"vital force" which negatively affects the health of a person.Homeopathy says that the diseases are already present in the bodyand that like cures like, i.e. that which can produce a set ofsymptoms in a healthy individual, can treat a sick individual whois manifesting a similar set of symptoms. Another difference isthat ayurveda, unlike homeopathy, makes use of some surgicalprocedures like “Kshar sutra” and purification techniques like“Panchkarma” for managing diseases.

Ayur meaning “life” and Veda meaning “knowledge” – Ayurveda means“knowledge of life.”

Homeo meaning “similar” and pathy meaning “science.”

The body is healthy as long as it in balance, when imbalanced itwill be unhealthy in various ways. Uses herbs and minerals tobring and keep body in balance. Also, stresses need for healthymetabolic system, good digestion, proper excretion, exercise, yoga, and meditation.

“Like cures like… that which can produce a set of symptoms in ahealthy individual, can treat a sick individual who ismanifesting a similar set of symptoms." Homeopathic medicinestimulates our immune system to fight disease.

Preparation of Medicine:

Page 19: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

Uses vegetable drugs, herbs, minerals like sulphur, arsenic, copper, lead, gold and animal products like milk, bones, andgallstones to produce medication.

Uses various plant, animal, synthetic materials, and mineralsubstances prepared by diluting the substance in alcohol ordistilled water and shaken to pass the properties of thesubstance to the dilution. Final medicine contains only a smallpercentage of the original ingredients.

Issues of Safety:

May incorporate toxic minerals such as lead, mercury and arsenicin small doses.

Contains only water and/or alcohol. In rare cases, has lead toarsenic poisoning and zinc poisoning.

Difference between Allopathy and Ayurveda:

Ayurveda is a 5000 year old medical knowledge system thatoriginated in india.Ayurveda derives it’s medicines purely fromnature,it’s core belief is that the BODY,MIND,SPIRIT areintimately connected. When the vadiya treats a patient, say for adigestive problem,he extends his treatment to include the WHOLE

Page 20: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

person, his diet and life style patterns and even his state ofmind.

Difference between Allopathy,Homeopathy,Ayurveda:

Allopathy is commonly called as drug therapy. It involveschemical treatment for diseases and weaknesses. Now allopathy isonly a partial cure. This is because the drugs you buy fromchemists are only made to cure the reaction and not the cause. Here only the result of an infection is cured and not theinfection as a whole.

Page 21: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

Homeopathy is another field of medicine which deals with the rootof the problem. The medicines given in this type of medicationare meant to cure the root of the problem. This hence cures thecause of infection for example and not alone the result. Alsomost of the homeopathic medication is permanent. This meansdisease once treated completely over a course period, will notrecur again.

Herbal and Ayurveda are the same if I am not wrong. Ayurveda isthe science of natural healing. It is related mainly with thecures available from nature. The Ayurveda is the oldest existingmedication and the most effective. It also deals with the root ofthe problem and is a permanent cure mostly. But the mainadvantage of Ayurveda over Homeopathy is that Ayurveda only usesnatural means to heal/medicate. It is the most eco-friendly wayto get cured. A person treated with Ayurveda not only gets curedbut gains permanent immunity most of the times. It has beenalready proved that Ayurveda is the mother of all medication onthis earth and every other form of medication is derived formthis oceanic science called Ayurveda.

Page 22: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA
Page 23: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

can homeopathic medicines can be taken parallel to Allopathyalso. Is there any harm:

Homeopaths usually do not allow their patients to use allopathicdrugs simultaneously, esp. for the same complaint. And basicallythe idea behind this is correct. For homeopathic medicines areselected on the basis of signs and symptoms, and the efficacy ofa medicine is also judged by its effect on the quality, quantityand nature of the symptoms. The progression of the diseasetowards the positive or negative end is judged by that. And onlywith this knowledge in hand can a homeopath decide what medicineto give, what potency to give, when and how to repeat etc. sinceallopathic medicines distort the true picture of thedisease/patient by suppressing isolated symptoms, providing

Page 24: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

partial reliefs, and due to their side-effects, it becomesdifficult to judge the condition of the patient for a homeopath. So u can see the justification behind not allowing the use ofallopathic drugs simultaneously with homeopathic medicines.

But this is the ideal, not a rule. There are many exceptions

like:

1. When a patient has been taking some allopathic medication fora very long period, it is not possible to withdraw the drugimmediately. Sudden withdrawal of drugs used in diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, arrhythmias, hormonal disorders etc cansometime prove disastrous for the patient. In such cases usuallythe homeopathic treatment is started along with the allopathicmedicines, and as the condition of the patient starts improving, the allopathic drugs are tapered slowly.

But in such cases obtaining a cure becomes very difficult as thehomeopath has to prescribe on the mixed symptomatic state due todisease and the drugs.

2. When a patient is unwilling to get proper homeopathictreatment for his/her chronic complaints but wants to get herisolated acute conditions treated homeopathically, thenhomeopaths usually do not deny treatment to such patients

3. In pre-surgery, post-surgery, and trauma cases homeopathicmedicines are often given along with allopathic medicines.

4. Pioneers like George Vithoulkas and some practitioners likemyself have come to this conclusion that during the course of aproper homeopathic treatment for chronic ailments, if a patientsuffers from an acute isolated condition (unrelated to hischronic tendencies)(like sick headache due to night watching, orvomiting due to too much wine etc (indisposition)) thenallopathic medicine for such condition(if is required) can be

Page 25: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

used. The reason behind this thought is that often homeopathicmedicines can interfere with each others action or can change thedisease picture enough to make the follow-up prescribingdifficult. This is not good for the long term treatment of suchpatients.

AllopathyVersus Homeopathy:

Allopathy– A method of treating diseases with remedies thatproduce effects different from those caused by the diseaseitself.

Homeopathy – A method of treating diseases with remedies thatproduce effects similar to those caused by the disease itself.

The large majority of physicians in America practice allopathicmedicine. And while very few people outside of the health-careindustry could define the term, its practice is ubiquitous andalmost fully internalized by the general public. An example ofallopathic treatment would include elevating a sprained ankle andwrapping the afflicted area in ice in order to reduce swelling.Bandages may also be used to prevent use of the joints. Swelling, the symptom, is attacked instead of the injury itself.

But homeopaths take the exact opposite approach. They believethat the swelling is the body’s natural healing method. Whentendons, ligaments and muscles are stressed extra blood rushes tothe area to repair the damage. As ugly and frightening as aswollen ankle may look, it is what is necessary to heal the bodyproperly. Efforts taken to reduce swelling can increase healing

Page 26: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

time and may cause long-term damage. Over the next few days ahomeopath may recommend adding heat and light exercise to thesprained ankle to help increase blood flow, quite the oppositeadvice from the allopath.

In general, allopathy seeks to fight the body’s natural responsesystem by attacking the symptoms of healing. Homeopathy, however, embraces the body’s natural response system by either encouragingthe symptoms of healing or attacking the root cause of theillness. Mainstream medicine, or allopathy, would have us takemuscle relaxants for headaches and nasal decongestants for runnynoses caused by the common cold. But these are merely treatmentsfor the symptoms. The homeopath understands that a headache is asign that something is wrong. Perhaps the sufferer has a lowblood sugar and needs to eat something. Or maybe he or she would

Page 27: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

benefit from some exercise or a change of environment. The listof examples goes on.

Historical evidence suggests that power players, as early as thefounding of the American Medical Association, have used the heavyhand of government to squelch homeopathic physicians. Regulationsand licensure were used to stifle the growth of homeopathy bynarrowly restricting which schools can produce new doctors andwhat their curriculum must teach. Today, students must endureroughly ten years of allopathic medicine education and testingbefore being allowed to practice homeopathy. After being taughtfor so long that homeopathy is akin to quackery is it any wonderso few aspiring doctors choose to practice homeopathic medicine?

To make matters worse insurance companies – another tightlyregulated industry – do not cover homeopathic medicine. It is aproblem, indeed, for patients who choose alternative medicine tomainstream medicine. However, so long as individuals may opt outof the corporate circle there exists a healthy market forhomeopathy. In come new regulations mandating all individualspurchase corporate insurance and few people will have money leftfor alternative medicine, such as homeopathy.

With new governmental regulations becoming more asinine by theday one need not try too hard to imagine a future wherehomeopathy is strictly criminalized. Our hope then lies inpatients and doctors willing to break the rules to receive andprovide truly free health care. Anarchists of all professions, including doctors, should take the time to better understand thefascism that pervades American medicine. It will surely serve asan excellent recruiting tool for potential fed-up citizens of allbackgrounds alike. I highly recommend a short, yet scary, book onone doctor’s lifelong struggle to practice medicine and thehistory of American health care. The book is called MedicalConspiracy In America and is available for free online. Its

Page 28: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

reading time is roughly two hours. But if you give it five pagesI am confident you’ll be hooked until the end.

Page 29: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

Ayurveda vsAllopathy:

HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA:

MEANING:

1. HOMEOPATHY – Derived from the Greek hómoios- ὅμοιος-“like-” + páthos πάθος “suffering” which means asubstance that causes the symptoms of a disease inhealthy people will cure that disease in sick people, orin more simple words ” like cures the like “.

Page 30: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

2. ALLOPATHY – Derived from a Greek word állos, “other”,“different” + the suffix πάϑος, páthos, “suffering” whichmeans “other than the disease”.

3. AYURVEDA - Ayurveda is a Sanskrit term, made up of thewords “ayus” and “veda.” “Ayus” means life and “Veda”means knowledge or science. The term “ayurveda” thusmeans ‘the knowledge of life’ or ‘the science of life’.

CONCEPTS THEY FOLLOW :

1. HOMEOPATHY- The differences between the way twoindividuals react to a similar disease are anindication of the unique way in which each of themreact. This uniqueness of the symptoms & reactionsbrings in the difference in the remedy prescribed toeach one of them.

2. ALLOPATHY - The concept of Allopathy is based on thatdiseases can be treated with the help of drug.

3. AYURVEDA – Ayurveda insists that the ‘fault’ ordosha, the ’tissue’ or dhatu and the ‘impurity’ or malashould be in harmony with each other, with all thecomponents i.e ‘Five Great Elements’ (Panchmahabhuta)theory. These five elements are earth (prithvi), water(jal), fire (agni or tej), air (vayu) and ether orspace (akash), should be properly balanced.

APPROACH TOWARDS THE DISEASE( any disease):

1. HOMEOPATHY – Homeopathy forms a holistic approachto health, it aids the body’s abilities to healitself by improving the immune system of the body. They have a striking balance of SCIENTIFIC ,NATURAL and INDIVIDUALISTIC approaches in theirtreatments and prescribing.

2. ALLOPATHY –Allopathy is an approach which aims to treat theillness only. Allopathic practitioners are limited by what theycan do because they only focus on the symptoms not the causes. Itseems as though there is a pill for every ill, and even better, apill for all their side effects. We have somehow been convincedthat when sick, it is due to a lack of medicine or surgery andthis is the only way.

3. AYURVEDA – Ayurveda stresses a balance of three elementalenergies or Vāyu / vāta (air & space – “wind”), pitta (fire &water – “bile”) and kapha (water & earth – “phlegm”). Accordingto ayurvedic medical theory, these three substances — doṣas

(Devanāgarī: ददद)—are important for health, because when theyexist in equal quantities, the body will be healthy, and whenthey are not in equal amounts, the body will be unhealthy invarious ways.

INDIVIDUALITY FOR THE PATIENTS -

1. HOMEOPATHY - High on individuality, Homeopathicmedicines are prescribed on the basis ofIndividualization which tailoring the remedyaccording to individuals need. It means everyindividual is different from others in some way;be it his stature, talking, choices, behavior, orhis susceptibility to diseases. Homeopathicmedicines are always prescribed for the completepackage that is the individual so naturally themedicine will change for different persons.

2. ALLOPATHY - Almost no individualization, if two person aresuffering from flu then they have a common medicine for both ofthem.

Page 35: HOMEOPATHY Vs. ALLOPATHY Vs. AYURVEDA

3. AYURVEDA – Somewhat individualized, if compared to allopathybut not as highly as that of homeopathy .

COST EFFECTIVENESS ( NO AMOUNT OF MONEY IS MAXIMUM, IN CASE OFRESTORING ONE’S HEALTH ) –

Although cost effectiveness is an issue with some of us, but ifwe want to have a complete, reliable and forever kind of cure, wehave to reach out to the best of doctors, who can cure us and onwhom we can trust. now, as far as the money matter goes i onlyhave to say that ” health is priceless “ you can blame me forsaying this but its all i have observed till now.

SIDE EFFECTS OF THE MEDICINES –

1. HOMEOPATHY - If taken under proper guidance of ahomeopathic physician, homeopathic medicines haveno side effects, but It’s a well known fact thatanything taken in excess is bound to be harmful. Sowhy won’t homeopathic medicines cause harmfuleffects if you take them in excess due tonegligence or thinking them to be placebo .

2. ALLOPATHY –Allopathy has its own chain of sideeffects( internal or external) connected with everyprescribed medicine.

3. AYURVEDA - In ayurveda, there are merely 1-2 sideeffects, which are of mild nature and easilyrevokable.

Which is better to follow? ayurvedic or allopathy or homeopathy?

Homeopathy is very effective in helping a person recover theirhealth in a great majority of both acute and chronic illnesses asit treats the root cause of the disease and not the symptoms asallopathy most often does.

It is true that there are many practitioners who cannot get theresults that they claim because they do not properly apply theprinciples of homeopathy, but in the hands of a good classicalhomeopath, many health issues can be resolved. It is best tocheck the registered homeopaths of homeopathic accreditationcouncils like the Canadian Society of Homeopaths or the NorthAmerican Society of Homeopaths. Here is an example ofhomeopathy's efficacy vs. allopathy (conventional medicine) inthe mortality rates of pneumonia, i.e. death rate, that comesfrom Kenneth F Kiple. Allopathy has a very good investigationsystem - many tests & techniques including MRI scanning, etc. andalso surgery. however, their medication alleviates the symptomsof disease without necessarily going deeper into the cause & itsrepercussions on entire body. there is also the problem ofallergies & side-effects caused by the medication. their systemis mass-based. only now are they realizing that reaction to/effectiveness of medicine differs according to culture/race,genetic makeup, gender, age...

ayurveda& homeopathy are more inclusive, holistic, all-encompassing systems. they believe in individual differences &treat accordingly. their focus is not merely on medication but anentire life style which includes diet, exercise, attitude, etc. They go for the root cause of the disease & try to alleviate that- symptoms will take care of themselves as healing progresses.

however, there are a lot of quacks in these 2 systems and thereis shortage of authentic research work & scientificinvestigation. there are no proper boards to manage thepractitioners, to regulate/standardize the medication, etc.

Even investigation is highly dependent on the skill & experienceof the doctor. s/he may not be able to pass on this intuitiveability to the students and the "art" dies with her/him. so, thecliche about having faith in these systems.
