We will have another stall at the Eid Fair, so do bring in your good quality uniform for us to sell. Did you know? When we analysed the attainment outcomes from our children in Year 6 last year we noticed that pupils who attended school 95% or above did significantly better than those who attended less than 95%. In Writing the difference was that 30% more children attained the expected standard or higher if they attended school 95% or more of the time. Just another reason for children to come to school whenever possible. A very big… THANK YOU to all of our families who gave so generously to our collection for our partner school in Tanzania. It will be so nice to be able to provide some extra learning resources for them. We collected just over £240!

Outstanding achievements of Hitherfield Primary School recognised
by the Mayor of London
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has celebrated the outstanding performance of Hitherfield Primary
School with an awards ceremony.
The school was honoured for its work to reduce educational inequality and achieve exceptional results for
children who were previously behind in their studies, at a Schools for Success awards ceremony.
Hitherfield has been recognised for an exciting and innovative curriculum that inspires and leads to high
attainment.
The Schools for Success programme was created by the Mayor in 2017 to improve the support given to
children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The programme recognises primary and secondary schools
that ensure strong progress for their lowest attaining pupils, has a strong overall performance and shares
their work with other schools.
The ceremony was hosted on Friday 27th September by Deputy Mayor for Education and Childcare Joanne
McCartney.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “I’d like to congratulate the staff of Hitherfield for their excellent
work. Schools for Success was created to celebrate the difference that teachers, teaching assistants,
support staff and governors are making every day to support children and reduce inequalities, and this
school’s inclusive and supportive learning environment is a great example of this. London has the best
schools and teachers in the country, and by working together we can make sure that no young Londoner
is left behind.”
Well done to Nia (Anaconda) and Rayhan (Jaguar) for completing the challenge. You will receive a maths sticker in
the Good News assembly next week. Don’t forget you can email the completed maths challenges to the main
school office or drop them off there too.
This week’s challenge is linked to maths in art. Since September we have been taking part in a whole school art
project with each year group studying a different artist and making links to maths.
Year 5 have been studying Kandinsky’s ‘Composition VIII’
What maths can you see in this artwork? E.g. There are ___ triangles.
Look at the shapes, repeating patterns and lines. What do you notice?
Maths Glossary Number sentence = an equation expressed using numbers and mathematical symbols
(+ - x ÷ = ) e.g 5 + 2 = 7
The ever-popular Eid Fair will be held next
Friday 11th October from 3pm - 5.30pm.
Your children are welcome to come to school
in colourful clothes, to celebrate Eid, in
exchange for a 50p donation to their
teacher.
If anyone still has second hand uniform to donate, we will be running another stall at Eid.
