Before you begin, please register as a trail user at the Conservation Learning Center. Red arrows mark the 2.45 mile Wilderness Trail . Yellow arrows mark the 1 (Closed for reconstruction.) mile John C.Sawhill Memorial Trail. The Preserve closes at 5:00 p.m. Please allow at least two hours to hike the trail—not including stops for picnics and sightseeing. Do not begin hiking the trail after 2:30 p.m. Water levels in the Preserve’s wetlands fluctuate based on rain- fall and groundwater level (the water table). This natural hydrology creates the pos- sibility of wet trails during rainy periods. Please wear appropriate footwear. Help protect the rich diversity of plant and animal life found here by following these simple rules: • stay on the trails • obey all “closed area” signs • if you bring it in, take it out • no smoking on the trails For your safety and comfort, we suggest you: • carry drinking water • protect yourself from sunburn by wearing a hat and sunscreen • avoid contact with poisonous plants and wild animals • weapons • pets • alcohol • campfires • horses • biking on trails • smoking • collecting plants or animals Trail rules The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to preserve plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.
