Happy New Year!
2015 promises to be an exciting year here at Heritage Pines.
John Burns will be leading our Turf M a n a g e m e n t D e p a r t m e n t responsible for maintaining the entire community, the golf course,
common areas and the CDD designated areas. The staff will be wearing new yellow shirts and green sweatshirts for those chilly mornings. Most of the staff has stayed with us so you will still see familiar faces you have come to know in the TMD.
Chuck Gaffka is excited to be leading our new Heritage Pines Community Association - Services and Support Department. Being “part of the family” is exciting for this team and they are looking forward to continuing their excellent service and searching for more ways to assist our residents.
Mark Stanish is busy planning an exciting Spring season of special events and entertainment for the community. Watch the Pines newsletter and all of his special emails for these events so you can get your tickets for the shows you want to see. Mark and the Lifestyle Committee are also bringing back the New Homeowners Social on January
th10 . We look forward to officially welcoming the new residents and make sure they are aware of all the activities that go on in this wonderful community.
Chef Paul will unveil a new menu in January featuring the favorite selections you have requested as well as including Healthy indicators for those on special diets. To borrow a slogan we want to make sure that you “have it your way.” We will be adding a $5.00 quick lunch menu as well.
Marcia Merle continues to keep the Association's books and accounting in good order. With Oasis coming on board to administer our HR and payroll needs, Marcia will be able to breath a little easier and concentrate on accounting. She has been unbelievable over the past several months handling all these areas and we commend and thank her for all her efforts. If there is glue holding an operation together it's called Marcia!
In closing this month's letter, I want to encourage every resident to look at the ballot when you receive it in the coming weeks. The amendments and by laws are what makes Heritage Pines the special place that it is. We ask that you read these amendment and by laws changes and corrections, make your vote and return the ballot so we can continue to help this community grow.
My wishes and hopes for you all is a happy, healthy and prosperous new year!

By Randy Doolittle, HPCA Board President
The Board has had a productive year. We have appointed a new General Manager, Mr. Chuck Eade in July and have insourced our turf management and common
grounds maintenance as well as insourced our Front Gate management, both to commence January 1, 2015 As a result, our employee numbers will double and Oasis, our newly signed Personnel Employment Organization is fully engaged to help shape all employee programs and benefits into one cohesive manual.
The CDD reclaimed water project is to commence in May or June of next year and Pasco County authorities are responsible for all scheduling, delays or otherwise. Pasco County representatives will be giving an overview of the project to HPCA residents on January 13th (Tuesday) at 10 am till noon in the PAC room. The HPCA Road Project will commence this year as well but the main roads will not be resurfaced until the CDD reclaimed project is completed.
The ad hoc committee looking into the Clubhouse expansion as well as funding options is in full speed. An open Workshop is planned and all residents will be invited once the Committee has their findings prepared. The Board has approved the 2015 Budget…always a big task.
The Board has appointed Mr. Tom Landers to the Board to fill the vacant seat left by Mr. Ron Warren. The appointment of Mr. Landers will end at the election of 2016. Mr. Bob Ferris has been appointed as Treasurer for the balance of this year.
The HPCA Board election for 2015 has four open seats. A sign up sheet was put out and two Board incumbents (Randy Doolittle and Jim Kelley) signed up for reelection. No other residents signed up. This left two seats open. Nominations from the floor took place December 17, 2014. Ted Johnson and Robert (Bob) Ferris were nominated and each accepted. There were no additional nominations hence a total of only four residents have signed up for the four seats for the upcoming election. Meaning, there will be no formal election for 2015 and the four candidates that have come forward will be approved via acclimation.

Happy New Year 2015!
The Gate House Staff wishes you a Happy New Year. We are happy to be here at Heritage Pines. Going forward, we will be providing the same services of authorizing admission to our property, patrolling the streets and insuring the enforcement of the rules and regulations of our community. Also with extra hours to improve our services and coverage in the community, we will have only a couple of new staff members. Also the security officers that will be staying here from Universal Protection Security Company are excited and are very grateful to everyone for giving us the opportunity to stay. Thank You! Here is a list of our incidents report for the month of November 2014:
• Courtesy calls made for garage doors open after midnight… (also if you want to leave your garage door open for the night, just let us know and we will not call you and wake you up.): (39)
o ( Please check garage doors before going to bed.)
• Sheriff on grounds: (10)
o (Routine Inquiries)
• Fire Trucks &/or Rescue Workers, &/or Ambulances: (27)
• Street lights reported out: (7)
• Vehicles left lights on: (1)
• Dome lights left on in vehicle: (2)
• Golf cart left out with clubs overnight: (1)
• RV blocking gate: (1)
• Resident dispute at back gate: (1)
• Resident fell off scooter - was found unharmed: (1)
When residents fail to volunteer in ample numbers it results in a non election. An Acclimation election gives you zero choice of who will represent you. Please, I ask every resident to rethink what direction you want HPCA to take in the future. The Board is your voice. The election for 2016 will have three open seats. Lets make the 2016 election more representative and allow the democratic spirit to take hold. Please volunteer.

I want to say a big thanks for all the wonderful people who helped so many children. First a thanks to all the people who have come back to help for the last ten years. Thanks to all the new residents who joined in this year; without all of you I couldn't do for the children in giving the basic clothing that is so needed. The Book club also deserves a big Thank You for giving the children the books for 10 years. I also want to thank Sandy Laliberte, our treasurer who gave $35.00 of her own money to cover the 261 children who will get books this year. I think I broke the Book club’s bank. We have never had so many children. Santa will be very busy this year. Thanks to Sharon Seberle who wrapped all 261 books herself. So many people who are involved in making these very needy children so happy. These children are so thrilled with their new clothing; that in January, when I return to school so many will say to me see my new shoes, see my new shirt, etc. it reminds me of all you behind me making so many smiles on these children's faces. I wish you all could see these happy little faces. I hope you all have a very Blessed New Year. Thanks so much from the bottom of my heart.

The Marine Corps League would like to extend their gratitude to the Heritage Pines Community for their overwhelming generosity during the Toys For Tots Gift Program. Heritage Pines Community filled our four boxes not just, not twice, not three times, but on four different occasions.
Members of the Marine Corps League join together in camaraderie and fellowship for the purpose of preserving traditions and promoting the interests of the United States Marine Corps, banding together those who are now serving in the United States Marine Corps and those who have been honorably discharged from the service that they may effectively promote the ideals of American freedom and democracy, voluntarily aiding and rendering assistance to all Marines and former Marines and to their widows and orphans; and to perpetuate the history of the United States Marine Corps and by fitting acts to observe the anniversaries of historical occasions of particular interest to the Marines.
The Marine Corps League is a non-profit Veterans Service Organization that supports Marines & their families, veterans, and promotes community involvement. These efforts include but are not limited to programs such as Tots For Tots, Military Order of Devil Dogs, MCLA Auxiliary, Young Marines, Boy Scouts Awards, Scholarships, Color Guards for civic events and Honor Guard memorials for fallen Veterans.
If you are interested in joining the Marine Corps League, please check for your local detachment at www.mclfl.org.

It's time to do a little bit of spring cleaning! Clean out your closets, empty out that spare bedroom, and quit being such a pack rat! We are once again putting together the Heritage Pines Annual Community Garage Sale. This is always a big event for this community, with over 100 homes participating each year.
The cost to participate is $7.50 per home – and our goal is to use 100% of the cost towards advertising and community security. This event is heavily publicized in local media outlets, including newspapers and radio ads, along with a roadside banner, and email blasts to other local communities (when possible). Our goal is to get as much exposure to every home participating that we can. We also hire a Pasco Deputy to patrol our community and ensure the safety of our residents & our property. We also staff additional staff to work to guard gate and patrol the community.

Whoever said that playing the horses just doesn't pay? Presented by Heritage Pines Resident, Bill StoehsthMonday, January 26 at 2:00 p.m. in the PAC Room
This very popular, informational program is being presented again as part of the Lifestyle Committee's information seminar series. This program focuses on the importance of being prepared for our own or a family member's passing. Such a time brings great emotional trauma but it can be even more difficult if survivors do not have the information they need. This presentation will help us prepare for the inevitable and will guide survivors through these difficult times. This is strictly an informational program to be presented at no charge to the residents and with no “sales pitch.”
If you would like to attend this event, we request that you sign up at the Front Desk so we know approximately how many people to expect and can make sure we have enough printed materials & handouts.
The many functions of the Environmental Issues Committee
Memorial Brick Program - provides the opportunity for our residents to purchase a brick in memory of a loved one or friend, a special date like your anniversary or just to denote when you came to live in this beautiful community.
You may order a brick by coming to the front desk, filling out a request form, and pay $25.00. As soon as we receive 10 brick orders, we will place an order with the vendor. It takes about 2 weeks to receive the bricks and then they are placed in the walkways of Gazebo Park. All special requests for specific placement will be accepted. If you have a special veteran you would like to honor, we have an area called the Veterans' Walk. Please place your order by January 10.
Hazardous Waste Day – March 27, 2015 is the big day to empty your garage. This is a once a year project the Environmental Issues committee is committed to sponsoring and have the support of the county. Bring all your old paint, lawn chemicals and large batteries. Electronics may also be dropped off, with a small charge of $5 for computers, monitors and small TV's, $10 for TV's over 36”.
Village Recycling Tournament – Are you a
happy recycler?? Do you put your recycling container nd thcurbside every 2 and 4 Wednesday of the month? One of
our goals is to increase recycling throughout our community. We want to know which village in Heritage Pines has the highest rate of homeowners who recycle. To find the answer, we plan to conduct a Village Recycling Tournament early in 2015. Prizes will be awarded.
In order to do this, we need volunteers from those villages that wish to participate. Volunteers will be asked to count and record the number of homes that are putting recycling curbside on recycling days. We will do this for 3 months/6 recycling pick-up dates. No personal information (names, addresses, etc.) will be collected.
If you are interested in volunteering for your village, p l ea se con tac t Sa ra B rundage a t 860 -5502 , [email protected] or Rich Cunha at 857-3044, [email protected].
On Friday, February 27, the Heritage Pines HOA Annual Meeting will take place. At this meeting, items appearing on the ballot will be counted. Among these items, are proposed amendments that require your vote to become effective.
Two of these amendments are to bring our Master Declaration more up to date. They have appeared on previous ballots but failed to obtain the required number of “yes” votes to pass. These items concern trash receptacles and truck (RV, boat) parking and need a 2/3 vote of the entire community of 1406 homes.
Other proposed amendments are to the Association's Bylaws. These are predominately typographical errors or revisions to clarify language usage. These changes require a majority vote of the quorum (meaning members either in physical attendance or voting by proxy).
Also appearing on the ballot will be the question of whether or not to “roll over” surplus funds from 2014 to 2015. This issue is extremely important because of the tax ramifications. A “NO” vote means the surplus would be subjected to taxation and this is not to the Association's benefit.
Please read your ballot carefully and be sure to vote either in person or by proxy. Please remember that if you give your proxy to a friend or neighbor, that person must physically appear at the meeting for your vote to be counted.
IMPORTANCE OF VOTING
CERT(Community Emergency Response Team)
HAZARDOUS MATERIAL INCIDENTIF YOU ARE TOLD TO EVACUATE - You should move to the place/shelter designated by public officials. Listen to your radio and TV for specific instructions.
1. Stay calm. If you already know where to go and what to take (Family Plan), it will help. Quickly gather what you will need, unless you are told to leave immediately.
continue to next page
-15-
2. Turn off heating, cooling, and ventilation systems and lock up.
3. Keep car windows/air vents closed. Do not use the air conditioner until you are out of the evacuation area. Carpool, if possible. Drive safely.
IF YOU ARE TOLD TO STAY INDOORS AND SHELTER-IN-PLACE - Stay inside the facility. This action will be recommended if there is a short release, a small amount of hazardous material in the air, or if time does not permit evacuation before the arrival of a cloud of toxic vapor. Take these steps to protect family:
1. Stay inside until local officials say you can leave safely. This will most likely be for no more than for a few hours.
CERT cont’d Listen to your local radio or TV stations for further instructions.
2. If you have animals, bring them indoors if possible!
3. Close all doors and windows. Seal all gaps under doorways and windows with damp towels and duct tape. Turn off heating, cooling and ventilation systems.
4. If you are told to protect your breathing, cover your nose and mouth with a damp handkerchief or other cloth folded over several times.

The Community/Memorial Tree Program provides the opportunity for our residents to purchase a tree in memory of a loved one or friend. Trees may also be purchased to honor a person or because you wish to donate one in your name to beautify our community. They can also be purchased as a gift, perhaps a birthday or anniversary idea. Prices vary according to the type and size of tree. Residents may choose a general location for a donated tree which can be on the golf course, along the main boulevard or in other areas of the community. The final placement of each tree will be approved by Heritage Pines maintenance facilities. Trees will be planted during the months of March/April and October/November. Please plan your purchase during the preceding months. The Community/Memorial Tree Program is headed by Linda O'Leary. Please contact Linda at 819-9207 for pricing information.
A map showing the location of all donated trees is located in the hallway by the Magnolia Room. Also, there is a book at the front desk of the Clubhouse listing information about the many trees planted throughout our community. Each page includes the names of the honoree(s), sponsor(s), tree location and type of tree. Residents may look through this book as desired.

Tree of Angels - Thank you MGA members for supporting the tree of angels program again this year! It was a huge success! We provided A Merry Christmas for 85 needy children who otherwise would have gone without. Since its inception 3 years ago our adopt-a-school charity program has provided over 500 back packs full of school supplies; over 3000 pounds of turkey at Thanksgiving; and Christmas for approximately 240 needy children and families in the Shady Hills Elementary School, great job! Thank you for your benevolence!!
Member/Guest - The Member/Guest Committee held its first meeting Wednesday, December 10th. We are gearing up for what we hope to be the best tournament yet. Along with the MGA Exec. Committee, the following are members of the Committee; George Williams, Mike McCann, Mike Walsh, Tim Lichtenberg, Dick Talty, HP General Manager Chuck Eade and our Pro Mark Klitzke. If you have any suggestions on how to make this a better tournament, please give your suggestion(s) to a committee member. The tournament will be held March 19th (practice round), 20th and 21st. We will be limited to 60 teams so start lining up your partner now as it will fill fast. Additional information including sign up dates will be coming out shortly.
We have in the past had our Member Appreciation Luncheon in January but the Board decided to have it on March 4th. This will coincide with our semi-annual Membership meeting and the annual election of officers.
A New Year is about to begin and the Niners are already in full swing with lots of plans and events - January 2015, here we come! Thanks again to our president, Nancy Suter, and vice-president, Barbara Martini for their leadership in helping to organize events of the past year and of course to the various committees. None of it would have been possible without them. And of course we always appreciate our members' energetic and immediate responses in heading up endless groups needed to run an organization such as ours. Way to go Niners!
Our awards program on December 9th brought a full house to the PAC room. After the program and during a delicious lunch, Lillian Stoffo once again entertained us with an amusing musical video of past Niner events - with special mention to Louise Cucinello for her outstanding contribution to our Mary Giella Charity. It's a monumental job and again, something that can't be done alone. Thanks to the full support of fellow Niners and the generosity of several Heritage Pines residents, we were once again able to help over a hundred children who otherwise would have had a pretty bleak Christmas. Skip Scott and Bob Mayer, just to mention two, have made very sizable contributions to our efforts. Contributions come in all sizes - whether it be food, money or time - it's all desperately needed by these kids and we appreciate every bit of it. Maggie Shell has the honor of heading up our charity for next year, which continues to be the Mary Giella Elementary School. She
thhas our blessings and support. On December 18 , the children thanked us in the best possible way, with a visit to Heritage Pines, where they enjoyed a luncheon and we enjoyed a collection of holiday favorites, sung beautifully by the children themselves.
HPLGA Holiday Event - The final HPLGA event for 2014 was the Christmas Luncheon held on December 9. As always, the restaurant staff prepared a delicious lunch for the members. The Pauley's provided the entertainment. Their songs delighted everyone. The holiday party was preceded by an 18 hole scramble.

FYI look to February's newsletter for details of a fun fund raising event in April to help us continue doing this great project for another year.
What a year we had! Our elves were so busy cutting wood in some of the cutest shapes of cars and trucks and animals and the painters and detailers gave them the personalities that took the breath away from so many children.
Our Angels who gave so much with all their time knitting, crocheting and looming hats and scarves and gloves were so happy to hear the yells of delight at the children receiving their gifts; it was so inspiring. These children knew what if felt to be cold since we had an early cold snap this past December.
So with great pride I would like to report that our toymakers completed 1100 toys for our local children here in Pasco County and our Angels also did 1100 hat scarves and gloves set. With the help of the charity knitters from Pasco Library an additional 350 hat sets were done . What a great year it was!
There are so many delighted children feeling warmer, having a new best toy and realizing that people do care about them as we saw from the children of Mary Giella School at the Holiday concert. I don't know who enjoyed it more the residents or children.
A project like this could only happen when so many people are involved working it, supported it with donations and supplies knitting, crocheting and looming, storing our finished products giving their time to make the items, count and wrap and distribute the gifts. It was a great undertaking and special thanks to Compass Storage on County Line Rd for donating us a storage unit for part of the year and our own General manger Chuck Eades for seeing the scope of this project and supporting us fully.
We will be taking a needed rest until January 15th and then we will start all over again. So if you are interested in the Angels in the Pines see us on Sundays in the craft room at 1 p.m. again

The Heritage Pines Cat Sitter volunteers were busy this past year with multiple jobs of tending to cats while the owners were away. It has been a valuable service to the community and I wish all the volunteers a Happy New Year and hope they spent a very Merry Christmas with friends, family, and their cats. We continue to add volunteers to our group and they stand ready to assist you in caring for your cats while you are away. If you wish to join or need a cat sitter, just call Terry Cubine (727) 857-3090, or Rusty Peacock (727) 378-5301 for assistance. We can connect you with the volunteers in a flash.
If you enjoyed the Christmas holiday you may be interested in this little bit of history about the origins of the Christmas tree as written by that famous feline historian, Dolly.
Dolly's Journal of History – Tinsel
Few people knew when humans first began to put up decorated trees at Christmas time, until a wise old cat named Barney researched his archives and told me the real story. Actually, it goes way back in history. Way, way back, perhaps several thousand years ago, trees were often used as decorative pieces during the winter in many different ancient cultures. Perhaps the trees reminded them that Spring would soon arrive. It was said that the Romans used fir trees to decorate their temples at the festival of Saturnalia. By the way, I was told that Saturnalia was a holiday in December to honor the God named Saturn. It was a festive holiday with much merriment and the giving of small gifts.
The first documented use of a fir tree at Christmas time was in
THE HERITAGE PINES CAT SITTER the town of Riga in a far away country called Latvia. Not much is known about the tree but apparently it was carried about the town and at the end of a ceremony, the tree was burnt. The citizens of Riga were so proud of this that they erected a plaque in the middle of the city to announce that this is the site of the first fir tree used for the holiday in 1510. By my calculations, that was over 500 years ago.
You may wonder what all this has to do with cats. Well, it has a great deal to do with cats, and one in particular named Tinsel. It was several decades later that Tinsel, a cat of a rascally nature, came across the Riga fir tree on a cold December night and decided to nestle safely among its branches. When Tinsel was discovered the next morning entwined in the upper reaches of the fir, the citizens took this as a good omen and took the tree, with Tinsel clinging precipitously to several branches, inside a dwelling where they set it up to admire both the tree and the cat.
“We must feed the cat,” said one of the citizens, “for we cannot let this symbol of Christmas and the New Year go hungry and cast a curse upon us.”
“Right you are!” cried out the citizens. “Surely this cat brings us tidings of comfort and joy. Bring him a mouse!”
“No, No!” shouted Janis the maiznieks, the town baker. “Do not feed Tinsel a pele,” which is Latvian for mouse. “Tinsel is my cat and he can catch his own pele. Feed him some of my delicious laci, which I bake daily.” And so it was that the citizens decorated the fir tree with morsels of the Latvian bread called laci, so that Tinsel would be well fed and happy, bestowing good luck and well wishes to all the citizens for the season.
In the following years, other edible attractions were added to the tree, such as gingerbread, spiced apples, wafers, and sweets which were to be fed to the cat as well as decorate the tree. Then

glass makers added colorful small baubles as ornaments, while others wrapped bright paper streamers around the tree. Soon Tinsel was forgotten as the first to cause the tree to be decorated and the citizens in Latvia and neighboring Germany cut down fir trees at Christmas time, brought them into their homes, and began to decorate them with all sorts of bright ornaments.
The figure of the baby Jesus was placed at the top of the tree and was later replaced with an angel that announced the birth, and a star that the Wisemen followed. Decorating the tree became an important event, enjoyed by the whole family. It wasn't until around 1830 that the tradition became established in England and became an important part of a British Christmas. Candles were added to brighten, represent stars, and enhance the tree. The first Christmas tree lights were invented in 1895 by an American named Ralph Morris, and they were very similar to the ones humans use today. Strands of brightly colored paper were added to wrap around the tree and strings of shiny tinsel, made from metal or plastics, added sparkle. Some humans claim that the word tinsel comes from Tinsel, the cat that nestled in the tree in Riga.
Some Christmas trees have become famous, such as the Rockefeller Center tree in New York City, which is usually a Norway spruce and was first erected in 1931. Every year the Norwegians donate a tree to England to be raised in Trafalgar Square, London, as a thank you for the help the English gave Norway in World War II. The White House in our nation's capitol has had a Christmas tree on the lawn since the 1920s. And today, in millions of homes across America, children awake Christmas morn to open presents carefully placed under a brightly lighted Christmas tree.
When you decorate your Christmas tree this year, think back five centuries to when a little cat, owned by a maiznieks in Riga, Latvia, first nestled in a fir tree and began the tradition humans hold so dear today. Raising the tree and decorating it has become a joyous occasion throughout the world, but Tinsel has been almost totally forgotten. Now that you know the real story, pause a moment, and thank the kitty cat named Tinsel as you gaze upon your beautiful tree and celebrate Christmas. Think what color and excitement Tinsel has brought all the way from Latvia to help you enjoy this joyous season.
Would you like another real story from my Journal of History?

MINI MAH JONGG TOURNAMENT
BOOK CLUBWow – is it 2015 already? Our first meeting of the new year will be on January 28th, when we will meet in the Magnolia Room at 10:30 a.m. Penny Norton will report on the Christmas Party for the Mary Giella schoolchildren, and we'll discuss The Promise of Stardust by Priscille Sibley. Although the title suggests a romance novel, it isn't, but instead an in-depth dissection of a “complex and controversial moral issue, skillfully giving both sides of the ethics of a patient's right to die with dignity.” Matt & Elle Beaulieu are “a deeply devoted couple who has everything, except the baby they've always wanted. When a tragic accident leaves Elle brain-dead, Matt is devastated. He agrees to remove her from life support, a directive on which she had often adamantly insisted for years in the event of just such an occurrence. Just before it is to happen, the doctors discover that she is pregnant. Now what was once a clear-cut decision becomes an impossible choice that leads to a controversial legal battle. Written by a neonatal IC nurse, this novel raises profound questions about life and death, faith and medicine.”
Some questions to consider: 1) As a neurosurgeon, Matt immediately realizes that Elle's brain damage is severe. Why do you think he lets Phil operate? Do you think he betrays Elle by letting Phil do so? 2) Matt wants to keep the court case private, but it becomes a media circus. How much influence does the media have on events like this? How much should they have? Is their involvement an expression of freedom of speech or is it an invasion of privacy? 3) In some states, pregnancy invalidates a woman's advanced directive. Are you familiar with the laws in

ASK THE TECHIE DIGITAL PHOTO MANAGEMENTTRAINING CLASSQ: Recently my Yahoo email had been
hacked. My email account was being used to send SPAM messages to people on my Contact List. I called Yahoo at a number I found on the Internet to request assistance in changing my password. Instead the person took over remote control of my computer. He told me that my computer, printer and Internet connection were all infected and I needed
to pay several hundred dollars to have these problems corrected. I hung up and contacted you for assistance. Was I actually speaking to Yahoo support or was this a scam?
A: This was definitely a scam. The free email providers: Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail don't normally provide phone support. They typically provide support via their web sites or via email from their technical support departments. If you actually reached a Yahoo support person they would not have charged you to change your password.
One must be careful when searching the Internet for contact information. Anyone can create a web site representing themselves as affiliated with a technology company. This is not only true with technical companies but also with the banks, credit card companies and other financial institutions. If you are looking for contact information the best place to look is at their web site. Look for a CONTACT US link somewhere on the site.
If you ever allow someone to access your computer remotely and feel they may not be who they say they are, you should have your computer checked for viruses and other monitoring software. This type of software may be used for unauthorized access to your computer without your knowledge or permission.
Similarly, if you receive an unsolicited call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft, Symantec or Hewlett Packard telling you that they have detected problems on your computer and want to access your computer hang up immediately. This is DEFINITELY a scam.
Q: My computer is running slowly and I suspect it may be infected with a virus. My neighbor suggests I use Windows System Restore to correct this problem. Do you agree that this will fix my problem?
A: System Restore is a very powerful tool that I occasionally use to bring a troubled computer back to life. However this tool should be used ONLY as a last resort when all other corrective actions have failed. Depending on how far back the restore is done the system may not always complete the process successfully. I've seen systems that have been restored multiple times fail completely requiring replacement or Windows reinstallation.
If the System Restore appears successful, you should verify that the virus has been completely removed. Often the virus, if not completely removed, will reinfect the system again after a short period of time.

We only had one practice to report on this month since we had to meet the deadline for submitting articles for our January Heritage Pines newsletter. However, we will have had a n o th e r p r a c t i c e i n December on Friday, the 19th, which we will report on in the Februar y newsletter.
thFriday December 5 - We had eleven (11) players participate today. Although five of our usual players couldn't play due to
other activities, a couple of snowbirds returned for the winter months and joined us. The softball field where we play at Memorial Park was not prepared as it usually is since all the maintenance workers were working to repair a major water line break on the property. However, we were able to get the key to unlock the pitcher protection screen and carry it to the mound. Everyone took their usual two batting practice sessions, with each player taking 15 hits per session, or a total of 30 hits for the day per player. Some of the players took 3 turns at batting since we had more time with less players in attendance. Of course, those who were not up to bat fielded the hits of those doing the batting.
Our practice schedule for the first month of the New Year is:
? Friday, January 9th at 9:30 a.m.
? Friday, January 23rd at 9:30 a.m.
Any resident of Heritage Pines is welcome to join us for some fun and good exercise with your friends and neighbors. If enough players participate, we'll play a regular softball game with the running of bases. We are always looking for and welcoming new team players; so, if you are interested, just show up at Memorial Field on Hicks road (off New York Ave on Little Road) on the practice days shown above.
We look forward to seeing everyone in the new year and hope you and your families had a Happy Holiday season but, most importantly, we wish everyone the best of health throughout 2015.

The Heritage Pines D r a m a C l u b presentation of "The Beat" was a huge success thanks to the s u p p o r t o f o u r c o m m u n i t y . T h e members of the cast worked diligently to make this play come to life on stage and come to life it did.
The Drama Club is also c o m m i t t e d t o s u p p o r t i n g o u r community. Last year, we donated funds from our production of "The Christmas Miracle" in the amount of $1,000.00 to K 9 for Warriors and $1000.00 to Toys for Tots of Pasco County. This year, we are pleased to donate $1,200.00 to Toys for Tots of Pasco County.
We sincerely hope we can make a difference in a child's life this Christmas.

DON’T WANNA BEA COUCH POTATO?
MONDAY LADIES BIBLE STUDY
TAI CHI CLASS
Attention all golf, tennis, bocce ball players and any other sports fans:
Have you noticed a slowing down of your athletic abilities? How about all the aches and pains in various joints? Do you still want to stay active, but just have about given up and decided to be a couch
potato? Well, pickleball is the answer! This sport is just about the fastest growing sport enjoyed by seniors. Pickleball is easy on the various joints; the serving, etc., is usually served underhand (no stress on the shoulders). Less running around as the court is smaller than the size of a tennis court. The ball is about the size of the soft ball (wiffle type ball), and the paddle is like a ping-pong paddle but bigger. The bounce is shorter and slower – less running after the ball.
We have been playing on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. Also we have a friend in Timber Pines who is an Ambassador to the USA Pickle Ball Association and has been gracious enough to come and teach us the Ins and Outs of this great game!
Everyone is welcome – just a good, fun, health enhancing time.
For additional information, please contact Joan Delzangle or Francine Raggi-Collins OR just Google Pickle Ball and you will see some great videos on how the game is played!

Fifth Installment of the series “A Study of Qi & Qigong”
Qigong Training Theory
1. Regulating the Body: This means to adjust your body until it is in the most comfortable and relaxed state. You must be centered and balanced. The relaxation of your body originates with your mind. Therefore, before you can relax your body, you must relax your mind (Yi). This is the “Mind / Body Connection I often speak about. A relaxed and balanced body helps your Yi to relax and concentrate. Conversely, when your Yi is at peace and can judge things accurately; your body will be centered, balanced, and relaxed.
a. Relaxation is one of the major keys to success in Qigong.
Remember this important point ~~~ ONLY WHEN YOU ARE RELAXED WILL ALL YOUR QI CHANNELS BE OPEN!!! In order for you to be relaxed, your Yi (mind) must first be relaxed and calm. When your mind is coordinated with your breathing, your body will be able to relax.
b. Rooting: During all Qigong practices, it is very important to be rooted. Being rooted means to be stable and in firm contact with the ground. Your root is achieved by being centered and balanced. The first step to becoming rooted is to relax and let you body “settle”. As you relax, the tension in the various parts of your body will dissolve and you will find a comfortable way to stand. Stop fighting the ground, and rely on your body's structure to support itself. This lets the muscles relax even more. Since your body isn't struggling to stand up, your Yi won't be pushing upward, and your body, mind, and Qi will be able to sink.
If you relax your body enough to let it settle, your Qi will sink to the Lower Dantian and the Bubbling Wells (yongquan) in your feet, then your mind will become clear and you can begin to truly develop your root.
I hope your holidays were all you desired and I wish you all good health and happiness in 2015, Rich Cunha --- 857-3044 [email protected]

If you have either avoided the study of Revelation or have plodded through it and it remains a mystery, you will want to be a part of this “user-friendly” instruction starting on January 5th. The Monday Ladies' Bible Study will begin their study of “the end times” with the help of two guides: David Jeremiah's Agent of the Apocalypse and John MacArthur's study guide on Revelation.
In 1960 the Chicago White Sox's owner, Bill Veeck, thought it would be a good idea for his players' names to appear on the back of their baseball uniform shirts. In 1970 the National Football League followed baseball's example. And many college sports teams also do the same.
Identifying the players is important in more fields than sports. It's even important in Biblical eschatology--the doctrine of the last things. Fortunately the Bible is very specific about who these end-time players are. David Jeremiah calls them “Agents of the Apocalypse” and has produced interesting DVD's to present them in an understandable and memorable format.
The book of Revelation has been called the most challenging book of the Bible because of its graphic imagery. This DVD set helps provide a foundation for discerning the meaning of the vision given to and recorded by John the apostle who wrote the last book of the Bible, Revelation.
This non-denominational Bible Study meets every Monday in the Magnolia Room at 9-11. YOU are invited, so come and bring a friend! For more information contact Judy Peterson by phone 602-833-0646 or email: [email protected]

TUESDAY LADIES BIBLE STUDY

SONS OF ITALY –FRIENDSHIP LODGE 2728
We look forward to having ladies from our community join us in our study of First and Second Thessalonians. The study is by Beth Moore and we will view her DVD's every other week. There is a workbook for a deeper look into scripture and can be obtained by ordering one from Evie Clark at 727-868-3454. However, the study can be done as just a lecture. This study will end the second week of April. We meet every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. in the Magnolia Room of the Clubhouse. We would love to have you join us for study and fellowship.
The village attic is maintained by your neighbors within the community. They store items to lend when company comes into town. The list can be found on the Heritage Pines web site under social, as well as in the binder in the library. Please contact the person on the list and make the necessary arrangements. Any questions, please contact Betty Plante 863-8462 or Marcia Gerber 819-1662.
Our numbers are dwindling because of residents leaving the community. Is there anyone out there who likes to do art work in any form or style? Is there anyone who needs a little motivation and friendship with people of like interests? Anyone who has a project that they have not finished and needs a little extra time to work on it?
Our group is not teacher based but we learn a lot from each other and any level of artist is welcome. Come join us at 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. every Wednesday in the Craft Room. We'd love to have you!
Chavurah meets on the first Friday of the month in the Craft Room at 7:00 p.m. Dates to remember are: January 2nd, February 6th, March 6th, May 1st, June 5th, July 3rd, August 7th, September 4th, October 2nd, November 6th, December 4th. Pines Glen residents worked together to provide gifts to a needy family at Christmas. Pat Delamer contacted St. Vincent de Paul and received the names of a family with five children between the ages of three and fourteen. Once again, the call went out and the response was overwhelming from our residents. A group then met at Pat's house to wrap the many gifts. A representative from St. Vincent de Paul picked them up and delivered all the presents to the family. Each child now has everything from socks to jackets. The family was also provided with gift certificates to Publix and other local stores.
In November, Rosemary Corrao arranged a Caribbean cruise for 19 residents. Despite some rough seas near the Grand Caymans, everyone had a wonderful time. Rosemary will keep us updated on any available future cruises.
Several Pines Glen residents took part in the golf cart parade sponsored by the Lifestyle Committee. The parade wound throughout the community taking the golf carts past every village entrance. The judging of the villages was done by the participants in the golf cart parade since they saw every village entrance. Hot chocolate, coffee, brownies, cookies, and cocktails were served under the new event tent that was set up at the tennis courts. Dancing to DJ music took place there as well.
The village held a Christmas Dinner Dance at the Clubhouse on December 13th with music provided by DJ Bobbie Stoots. On New Year's Eve the village met at Pine Island to witness the last sunset of the year. Food and games were, of course, also present.
Kathie Reichert and Ann Bertolini are stepping down as co-chairs of our Social Club. Thanks Kathie and Ann for a great year of village activities. We now welcome our 2015 co-chairs for the Pines Glen Social Club. Sue Wargo, Jackie Ruth, Mary Ann Snyder and AJ Reichardt will be coordinating the social activities for our village during 2015. As Sue will now be involved in coordinating our village events, Pam Cegla will endeavor to keep residents informed of Village activities in The Pines. Any Pines Glen residents interested in joining the social club and participating in our many activities should contact Joan Buchanan to join.
