1. Introduction Your new heating/air-circulation drying oven ischaracterized by a high degree of economic efficiency andoutstanding quality.
Please read the following instructions carefully so that you'lbe in a position to operate your oven without any difficulty.
Special Notes Th e heating/drying ovens meet the requirements ofDIN-Standard 12 8 80 and VDE-Regulation 07 00 , Part 1 .
Radio-interference suppression: ace. to VD E Regula-tion 087 5, Part 1 .
Type of protection: IP 20 ac e. to DIN-Standard 400 50 .
The thermal safety class as per section T he rm alProtection" (Page 14) is of particular importance for theinstallation and operation of the oven.
In addition to the above, p lease observe a ll relevant localsafety regulations.
Th e heating/drying ovens must not be used for dryingprocesses or other heat treatments releasing combustiblevapors which might form explosive mixtures with the air.Furthermore, the ovens are not designed for the heattreatment of dangerous dusts or fibrous materials.
Ovens of thermal safety class 0 (see nameplate) mustbe installed so a s to permit permanent attendance. Theymay not be stacked or built into existing laboratoryfurniture, cf. section "Thermal Protection" (Page 14).
Care shou ld be taken not to lift the o ven by the door or thedoorhandle.
The ovens come with a power supply cable and a shock-proof plug (16 A).
For line fusin g, a 16 A delay-action fuse is required .
Prior to connecting the unit to the line, make su re that thepower supply ratings are those stated on the nameplate. The conne ction must be made in accordance with the
relevant local safety regulations.Rated voltage, rated frequency, rated power and currentare listed under 'Technical Data" and on the nameplate.
The ove n must be placed on a level surface.
Its position is locked in if the ad justable feet are turne d.This requires two w renches (size 24).
Models T/UT 6420 and T/UT 6760 are fitted with 4articulated rollers. The lever which releases the roller issituated above the locking lever. After the oven has beenpositioned, press the locking levers of the rollers.
In order to ensure optimum stability, turn the frontrollers forward as s oon as the oven is in position, and pressthe locking levers dow n (see fig. 1).
Close the door(s) when the oven is being moved
Working temp erature
Distance from walls
Exception*
The minimum working temperature for the T ovens is roomtemperature + 5°C, and room temperature + 20°C for theUT ovens.
Avoid installation in drafty locations. The am bienttemperature sho uld not permanently excee d 35°C.
The rear wall of the oven is fitted with 2 tubular sock ets.Wh en the air flap is set for fresh-air opera tion, cold air isdrawn in through the lower socket and hot air blown outagain through the upper one. With ovens of therma l safetyclass 0, and with units which do not feature a ir-flapadjustment, the upper socket (air-outlet socket) is sealed.
Distance betwee n the unit and the walls (25 mm to theceiling an d side *) should b e sufficient so as to not obstructthe outgoing flow of air and to prevent dam ag e from the hotair and vapors.
Models 6030 , 6420 and 6760 require a distance of 200 mmfrom the ceiling.
An air inlet pipe can be connected to supply the oven w ithfresh air. The pipe should be dimen sioned large enough toprovide the desired exchange of air.
The vapors produced in the oven during the heating phasecan be exp elled through an air-outlet pipe.
Vapors an d gases detrimental to health and the environ-ment m ust be carried off by all means.
For this purpose, a temperature-resistant and corrosion-proof air-outlet pipe should be used which can beconnected to the air-outlet socket.
When several ovens beside each other are connected to acentral air-extraction pipe, we recomm end the installationof a draft interrupter (see illustration).

Th e requisite measures concerning thermal safetyare stipulated in DIN-Standard 12 88 0, Part 1 , Tab le 3 (seeAppendix).
Th e thermal safety class which applies to these heatingovens is indicated on the nameplate.
No overtemperatureprotection
Thermal safety class 0:No direct protection for the heating ove n, its en vironmentan d load.
Only admissible for non-dangerous loads .
- If the tempe rature control system fails, the subseq uent
rise of tempe rature inside the oven will cause dam age .- Only admissible for supervised ope ration.
- The operation of these heating ovens must be checkedat sufficiently short intervals.
- Heating ovens of this thermal safety class may not bebuilt into laboratory furniture or stacke d.
Supplementary equipment may be added to the heatingovens of safety class 0 if a tempe rature limit cut-out,tempe rature limit controller, or an upper/lower limitcontroller is installed.
Thermal safety class 2Protection of the heating oven , its environment and the loadagainst inadmissible excess temperature.
Only admissible for non-dangerous toads.
Function:The tem perature limit cut-out is operationally andelectrically independent of the temp erature control system ,and disconnects the heater positively and from all poles.
Adjustable temperature limit cut-out
Whe n the control knob is set to the limit stop, thetemperature limit cut-out functions as oven protection. Ifthe temperature limit cut-out is set to a value som ewhathigher than that selected on the controller, it functions asload protection.
Should the temperature limit cut-out trip the heating s ystem(red warning lamp lights up):1. Disconnect the oven from the line.2. Investigate and eliminate the ca use of the failure.3. Press button to release temp erature limit cut-out.4. Turn the oven on ag ain.
Setting:To asc ertain the temperature at which the temperature limitcut-out operates, and thus to be able to adjust it properly, the oven must be put into operation. Set the control knobto the limit stop. After the selected working tem peraturehas been reached , reset the temp erature limit cut-out to thetrigger pos ition. If the cut-out comes into opera tion, the redwarning lamp lights up, and the heating current is positivelydisconnected from all poles.
The optimum temperature limit cut-out adjustment is foundif you turn back the control knob by at least two graduationmarks. Then release the cut-out and finally set it approxi-mately one graduation mark above the cut-off point. Torelease the lock, press the button thus unblocking thetemperature limit cut-out. The red warning lamp goes out.
Operational test:Th e tem perature limit cut-out should, at reasonableintervals, be tested for proper ope ration. It isrecommended that this test be carried out routinely by theauthorized operating pers onne l, e.g. prior to the s tart of alonger work process.
Provision to connect customer-installed warningsystems (e.g. telephone system , building controlsystems).
Function:When the thermal safeguard (temperature limit cut-out,tempe rature limit controller) comes into a ction, or a timerswitches the oven on o r off, the ap propriate m essage w illbe transmitted to the customer-installed warning system.
Th e potential-free contacts (1 make and 1 break con tact)are design ed for the following circuits:
* Power supply circuits:max. 250 V A.C., 3 A
* SELV /SELV-E circuits(cf. VDE-Regulation 0100/410):
Protection of the heating oven, its enviroment andthe load against inadmissible excess temp erature.
Admissible only for non-dangerous loads.
Function:The temperature limit controller is operationally andelectrically independent of the temp erature control system .In case of failure, it takes over the control function.
Tem perature limit controller
When the control knob is set to the limit stop, thetem pera ture limit controller functions as oven protection. Ifthe temperature limit controller is set to a value some whathigher than that selected on the controller, it functions asload protection. Once the temperature limit controllerbegins to function and the red warning light comes on,
proceed as follows:1 .Disconnect the oven from the line.2.Investigate and eliminate the cause of the failure.3.Tum the oven on again as described.
Setting:To ascertain the temperature at which the tem perature limitcontroller operates, and thus to be able to adjust it properly, the oven must be put into operation. Set the control knobto the limit stop (protection of the ove n). After the selectedoperating temperature has been reached , reset thetem pera ture limit controller to the switch point. If thecontroller comes into operation, the red warning lamp lightsup .
The optimum setting of the temperature limit controller isfound by turning back the control knob by approximatelyone graduation mark. The red warning lamp goes out.
Operational test:Th e temperature limit controller should, at reasonableintervals, be tested for proper operation. It is recommendedthat this test be carried out routinely by the authorizedoperating personn el, e.g. prior to the s tart of a longer work
Upper/lowertemperature limitcontrollerfunctioning in caseof excess andinsufficienttemperature
Therm al safety class 3.3
Protection of the hea ting ov en, its environme nt andthe load against inadmissible excess and insufficienttemperature.
Only adm issible for non-dangerous loads.
Function:This controller compleme nts the function of the tem -perature limit controller as per thermal safety class 3. 1 .W ith the flip switch, it can b e turned on/off as de sired andoffers additional protection against insufficient loadtempe rature if the controller fails.
Lower limitsafeguard
Upper limitsafeguard
Tem perature limit controller with upper an d lower limitsafeguard.
Setting of the upper limit safeguard:Set the d esired temperature for take-over in the even t ofoverheating as described under "temperature limitcontroller" (excess temp erature).
Setting of the lower limit safegua rd:Tu rn on the white switch after the set temperature has been
reached.Pilot lamp in the switch lights up.
A slow turn of the knob will reveal the trigger po sition o nthe dial of the lower limit controller (the orange warninglamp lights up).
If you turn back the knob a little, the orange warning lampwill go out.
Operational test:The upper/lower limit controller should, at reasonableintervals, be tested for prope r operation. It isrecom men ded that this test be carried out roulinely by theauthorized operating pe rson nel, e. g. prior to the start of alonger work proce ss.
