Heat is a form of energy that moves from a hightemperature object to a lower temperature object

In the SI system, the unit of heat is JOULE (J)But, heat is sometimes stated in a special energy unitcalled CALORIE (CAL)

What is Heat ?

calorieJoule 24,01 Joulecalorie 2,41

To measure amount of heat with CALORIMETER

Page 5: HEAT (KALOR)

Formula of Heat

The amount of heat absorbed or released by a substance is :

With :Q = amount of Heat (J or cal )m = mass of object (kg)c = spesific heat of substance (J/kg oC)∆T = temperature rise (oC or K)

final temperature – initial temperature ( T-To)

Q = m.c.∆T

Effect of Heat on States of Matter

• Changes in states of matter, which releases heat :

freezing

condensating crystalizing

Page 7: HEAT (KALOR)

• Changes in states of matter, which requires heat :

melting steaming

subliming

Page 8: HEAT (KALOR)

The Black Principle

The black principle :” Amount of heat released by the subtance with higher temperature is equal to the amount of heat absorbed by the substance with lower temperature ”

Heat Transfer

There are 3 ways of heat transfer :1. Conduction2. Convection3. Radiation

Page 10: HEAT (KALOR)

1. Conduction

Conduction is heat transfer without particle transferExample : Heating Iron

Page 11: HEAT (KALOR)

2. Convection

Convection is heat transfer with particle transferExample : Heating Water

Page 12: HEAT (KALOR)

3. Radiation

Radiation is heat transfer doesn’t require any mediumExample : Sun rays to earth
