The normal school day has been designed to finish at 2.35pm, to allow us to put together a programme of intervention/Enrichment activities.

In year 10/11 this effectively means they have a 6 lesson day rather than a 5 lesson day. The 6th lesson being a lesson focusing on where your child needs extra support.

The subjects your child has to attend will be reviewed regularly as progress data is updated. Each child receives an individual timetable that reflects the areas where they are adrift.

WELCOME TO THE KEY STAGE FOUR INTERVENTION TALK

“What if my child’s progress is below target in more than one subject?”

We prioritize subjects based on employment/further education criteria:

English and MathsScience and Ebacc SubjectsOther subjects

Page 6: Headteacher Mr Taylor. Aims of the Evening Develop an even stronger working partnership Introductory session aimed to support your child though KS4 Brief.

“Why has my child been asked to attend a programme of intervention?”

1. If their progress grade is below their target grade then your child is asked to attend intervention in that subject.

2. If they need to catch up on coursework or controlled assessment.

“What happens if my child does not attend intervention?”

We as a school want to work with you as parents to ensure your child has every chance of succeeding in their GCSE courses. Therefore 1) We have asked you to fill in a slip if you do not wish your child to attend.2) We will contact you every week to inform you if they have missed a session.3) If you could then please send a note to the teacher if your child cannot attend one night for some reason.

ENGLISH – Study TipsVariety of Activity is Vital – Ten possible activities:

• Reduce everything you know on a topic to 500 words, then to 200, then to 50, then to 10. Write those ten on a card for the morning of the exam

• Read one page in five (and a whole book in an hour) Read just the introductions and conclusion to chapters (and a whole book in an hour)

• Use the internet or buy revision guides

• Spend some time each day on note learning. It gets easier.

• Watch BBC Bitesize

• Do exam questions from past papers (for an hour or ten minutes or …)

• At the end of each day, write everything you have learned in very quick bullet points

• Invent and learn mnemonics

• Make mind maps, put them on your wall and add to them every day

• Make flow charts, diagrams, graphs, drawings as well as notes.
