Backing (5249-33 Ghostly Vine – Orange), cut:• (2) 59” x WOF
strips. Sew the strips together and trim to 59” x 72” to make the
back.

SewingSew using a ¼” seam allowance with right sides together
(RST) unless otherwise indicated. Always
press towards the darker fabric while assembling, unless
otherwise noted by the arrows.

1. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 10 ½” Fabric B strip to each side of (1) 10 ½”
Fabric A block. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 12 ½” Fabric B strip to the top and
to the bottom of the Fabric A block. Trim the block to measure 11
½” square to make (1) Block One square (Fig. 1). Repeat to make (6)
Block One squares total.
2. Sew (1) 5” Fabric E square to the top and to the bottom of
(1) 1 ½” x 5” Fabric F strip. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew
(1) newly sew strip to each side of (1) 1 ½” x 10 ½” Fabric F strip
lengthwise to make (1) Unit 1 square (Fig. 2).
3. Sew (1) 1” x 10 ½” Fabric B strip to each side of the Unit 1
square. Sew (1) 1” x 11 ½” Fabric B strip to the top and to the
bottom of the Unit 1 square to make (1) Block Two square (Fig.
3).
4. Repeat Steps 2-3 and refer to Figures 4-8 for fabric
identification, placement and orientation to make (1) of each
square, Block Three through Block Seven.

5. Place (1) 1 ½” Fabric D square on the top left corner of (1)
2 ½” x 11 ½” Fabric C strip, right sides together (Fig. 9). Sew
across the diagonal of the small square from the upper right corner
to the lower left corner (Fig. 9). Flip open the triangle formed
and press (Fig. 10). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the
triangle ¼” away from the sewn seam.
6. Follow Figure 11 for the seam direction to add a 1 ½” Fabric
D square to each of the remaining corners of the 2 ½” x 11 ½”
Fabric C to make (1) Unit 2 strip (Fig. 12).
7. Repeat Steps 5-6 to make (16) Unit 2 strips total.
8. Repeat Steps 5-6 and refer to Figure 13 for fabric
identification, placement and seam direction to make (15) Unit 3
strips.
9. Place (1) 1 ½” Fabric D square on the left side of (1) 1 ½” x
2 ½” Fabric L strip, right sides together (Fig. 14). Sew across the
diagonal of the square from the upper right corner to the lower
left corner (Fig. 14). Flip open the triangle formed and press
(Fig. 15). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle,
leaving a ¼” seam allowance.
10. Place another 1 ½” Fabric D square on the right side of the
1 ½” x 2 ½” Fabric L strip, right sides together (Fig. 16). Sew
across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the
lower right corner (Fig. 16). Flip open the triangle formed and
press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle,
leaving a ¼” seam allowance to make (1) Unit 4 strip (Fig. 17).
11. Repeat Steps 9-10 to make (18) Unit 4 strips total.

16. Sew together the (5) Unit 5 strips and Rows One through
Four, in numerical order, alternating them, to make the Center
Block.
17. Sew the Top and Bottom Borders to the Center Block.
18. Sew (1) 4 ½” x 56 ½” Fabric M strip to each side of the
Center Block. Sew (1) 4 ½” Fabric N square to each end of (1) 4 ½”
x 43 ½” Fabric M strip. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew the
strips to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block to make the
quilt top.
Layering, Quilting and Finishing19. Press the quilt top and 59”
x 72” backing well. Layer backing (wrong side up), batting, pressed
quilt top (right side up) and baste. Quilt as desired and trim
excess batting and backing when quilting is complete.
Binding20. Cut the ends of the (6) Fabric C binding strips at a
45-degree angle and sew end to end to make (1) continuous piece of
binding. Fold in half lengthwise and press wrong sides
together.
21. Sew the binding to the front of the quilt, raw edges
together. Turn the folded edge to the back, and hand stitch in
place.
14. Sew (4) 2 ½” Fabric D squares and (3) Unit 3 strips together
end to end and alternating them. Sew (1) Unit 4 strip to each end
of the newly sewn strip lengthwise to make (1) Unit 5 strip (Fig.
22). Repeat to make (5) Unit 5 strips.
15. Sew (4) Unit 4 strips and (3) 1 ½” x 11 ½” Fabric L strips
together end to end and in that order. Sew (1) 1 ½” Fabric L square
to each end of the newly sewn strip to make the Top Border (Fig.
23). Repeat to make the Bottom Border.
