Dear Parents and Carers, It’s been very quiet around the school this week. I didn’t realise what a big presence our Year 6 children were! They’ve had an amazing time at PGL but not without incident and injury it has to be said! All are alive, well and happy, though (not so sure the same can be said about the teachers!!). I’ve had the privilege of seeing some more lessons this week and can’t get enough of the enthusiasm and enjoyment of learning that I’m se eing around the school. I have to say that Vittoria, Karis and Jimmy wowed me with their poems – 2 of them tongue twisters which I confidently read aloud determined to show these young padawans how well I could recite them because I had practised my reading so much when I was their age. Well, needless to say, I failed miserably and it was all Karis could do to stop herself doubling over with laughter as I stumbled over the words. Pride goes before a fall as they say!! But the real excitement this week has come in the form of ‘Learn to Ride’ where our Reception and KS1 children have been given the opportunity to learn to ride bikes. Well, I’ve seen tears and frustrations along with determination and grit but, best of all, I’ve seen the look of sheer joy on th e faces of our little ones as they realise that they’re riding ‘on their own’!! I never got to see that look on the faces of my own children because I was always behind them holding onto the saddle until the last second before letting go and watching them ride off into the sunset! I can tell you now, though, that the face of a child who’s just achieved a challenging goal is a face that lights up the playground and certainly lights up your day! James (R2) only took an hour to crack the riding challenge but now there’s no stopping him and I think his parents might be struggling to meet James’ expectation of every evening out at the park now!! We’ve had more trips to the library this week with 5B and 2B sauntering off to spend an hour in the wonderful world of books. I love the children’s enthusiasm over books. With the easy access to media in its many forms these days, we do need to keep showing our children the wonder of books. Besides which, their vocabulary increases with every book they read! Year 1 had a very busy day on Wednesday visiting the Natural History Museum to have a look at the dinosaur exhibits. It was a really long day and the children looked wiped out when they returned but they were excited to tell me about how huge the dinosaurs were and one child was just overwhelmed by the fact that some of them could fly “even without feathers”!!

Dear Parents and Carers,
It’s been very quiet around the school this week. I didn’t realise what a big
presence our Year 6 children were! They’ve had an amazing time at PGL but
not without incident and injury it has to be said! All are alive, well and happy,
though (not so sure the same can be said about the teachers!!). I’ve had the
privilege of seeing some more lessons this week and can’t get enough of the
enthusiasm and enjoyment of learning that I’m seeing around the school. I
have to say that Vittoria, Karis and Jimmy wowed me with their poems – 2 of
them tongue twisters which I confidently read aloud determined to show these
young padawans how well I could recite them because I had practised my
reading so much when I was their age. Well, needless to say, I failed miserably
and it was all Karis could do to stop herself doubling over with laughter as I
stumbled over the words. Pride goes before a fall as they say!!
But the real excitement this week has come in the form of ‘Learn to Ride’
where our Reception and KS1 children have been given the opportunity to
learn to ride bikes. Well, I’ve seen tears and frustrations along with
determination and grit but, best of all, I’ve seen the look of sheer joy on the
faces of our little ones as they realise that they’re riding ‘on their own’!! I never
got to see that look on the faces of my own children because I was always
behind them holding onto the saddle until the last second before letting go and
watching them ride off into the sunset! I can tell you now, though, that the face
of a child who’s just achieved a challenging goal is a face that lights up the
playground and certainly lights up your day! James (R2) only took an hour to
crack the riding challenge but now there’s no stopping him and I think his
parents might be struggling to meet James’ expectation of every evening out at
the park now!! We’ve had more trips to the library this week with 5B and 2B
sauntering off to spend an hour in the wonderful world of books. I love the
children’s enthusiasm over books. With the easy access to media in its many
forms these days, we do need to keep showing our children the wonder of
books. Besides which, their vocabulary increases with every book they read!

If your child brings a water bottle into school, please ensure that it is a clear plastic bottle. We have had several accidents with split bottles and those with glitter or fruit or any such additives have caused irreparable damage to our carpets. Thank you for your consideration in
this matter.
Absences
If your child is going to be off
school for any reason, PLEASE
ring the school office by 9am
EVERY day of absence and
leave a message on the
absence line, even if you have
already told your child’s
teacher. This will save you
getting a phone call from us!
Please follow this up with a note
on your child’s return. Thank
you for your co-operation.

Lost Property
The Lost Property Box in the
playground is getting rather full!
Please take a look and see if there is anything belonging to your child.
Thank you.

KEEP FIT is held on Tuesdays from 9.00am - 9.45am in the KS2 hall. This is a fun and FREE exercise class run by Mr Charlee. If you don’t have childcare, please bring your little ones with you as they can be in the hall with us.
C O F F E E M O R N I N G t a k e s p l a c e o n W e d n e s d a y m o r n i n g s from 9am-10am in the Oak Room. Please come and join us for a chat and cuppa!
sQuid
The amount owed on sQuid for school dinners is currently £155.50.
Once a sQuid debt reaches £6.60, your child’s entitlement to a hot meal will be cancelled and they will be given an emergency meal of cheese and crackers with unlimited salad from the salad bar. This will continue until the debt is cleared. If anyone is struggling to pay the debt, please arrange a meeting with our office manager as soon as possible to agree a monthly payment plan. We would also like to advise you that Trust policy is to seek to recover unpaid debts through the small claims court, but we sincerely hope that will never become an issue at Harrow Lodge.
