CANTEEN IS NOT OPEN ON TUESDAYS

Welcome back!

As usual holidays and Easter have

scooted by – hoping yours, if you

were fortunate

enough to have

had some time

off, were

relaxing and

enjoyable. Over

the holiday

break work was undertaken on our

BER building, with the frame now in

place. This followed a visit by David

Chandler, Deputy Chairman, Orgill

Taskforce, who was quite scathing

in his criticism of the lack of

progress on our building to date.

The anticipated completion date is

now mid August.

I will be contacting Julie Alliston,

DEECD BER Manager this week

seeking clarification of the funds

available to us for our companion

project. These funds should be in

the order of $1 million. In early

March I first made contact with

Julie Alliston on this issue and since

then she has twice contacted me

seeking an extension of time. It is

now almost two months since we

began discussions and I hope to

have further information for you in

next week’s newsletter.

GROUNDS MAINTENANCE

You may have noticed that during

the holidays several gum trees

located near our main staff car park

area were removed. Unfortunately

they dropped a lot of nectar and

eucalyptus oil on cars parked

nearby. We will replace them with

trees that are ‘more car-friendly’

shortly.

Fortunately we

suffered very little

vandalism during

the holidays –

minimal graffiti and

one portable building window

broken. Our CCTV camera system

has certainly paid its way in recent

times!

ASS I STANT PR INCIPALS ’ REPORT

Welcome back to all families following the

extended Term break! We hope that

everyone has had a restful and refreshing

break and is looking forward to a busy

Term 2.

PREP ENROLMENTS FOR 2012

We have commenced our prep

enrolments for 2012 and we request

that existing families with preps for

next year contact the office for an

enrolment form. For effective

planning purposes it is beneficial for us

to know projected prep enrolments well in advance.

We also need to be aware of students with special

needs who may require extra support on their entry

to school. Families with queries regarding this

matter are encouraged to make contact with us to

discuss the options available to provide support.

If you know of any families with children starting

school in 2012 who wish to enrol at Berwick Lodge

Primary School we would appreciate it if you could

ask them to contact the school administration in

order to organise a tour of the school. Tours for

prospective families have commenced this week.

STEP INTO PREP – WEDNESDAY 1ST JUNE

This year we will be conducting a special information

evening for families of students

commencing school in 2012.

This evening will incorporate a

guest speaker, Dot Deviny,

who will address the issue of

how parents can best support

their child’s transition into primary school. The Prep

Classrooms will be open so that families can see the

classroom environment and our Prep staff will also

be present to talk about the early days of school and

answer parent queries. The evening will commence

at 6:00PM on Wednesday 1st June and all families are

welcome. This is an excellent opportunity for

families who have not yet made their final decision

regarding school enrolment. So that we can

accommodate all interested families we request that

bookings are made by calling the school on

9707 1766.

EDUCATION WEEK OPEN NIGHT –

WEDNESDAY 18TH MAY

The school will be conducting their annual Open

Night during Education Week on Wednesday 18th

May between 6:00PM and 8:00PM. All current

families and families considering

enrolling their children at Berwick

Lodge Primary School in the future

are welcome to attend. The evening

will include the showcasing of

student work in classrooms and

specialist program. This event has always been a

great opportunity for the whole school community

to get together and celebrate the wonderful work of

our students and staff. Further details will be

provided in the coming weeks but please keep this

date in mind!

BABY NEWS

On the last day of Term 1 we received some happy

news from Amy and Andy Carlile about the safe

arrival of their son William Robert

Carlile. On behalf of the school

community we would like to

congratulate the Carlile family and

we look forward to a visit from

Amy and William in the weeks

ahead.

WHAT IS GETTING ALONG?

Definition of “Getting Along”

Getting along means working cooperatively with others, solving

problems with others without getting too angry, following

important rules of the classroom and home, making friends,

accepting others who are different, helping correct injustices in

society, and making our community a safer and healthier place to

live and learn.

We have a number of teachers allocated to the various programs but are asking our school community

for some support. If you have any expertise in any of the following areas and would like to participate in

the program we would greatly appreciate your time and experience. These activities require different

materials and resources and we would greatly appreciate any donations to support our Fantastic Fridays

Program. These could include- construction materials such as wood, screws, wheels, art supplies, foam

cups etc.

Please see Traceye Rapinett for information or details about the program.
