•Lesson Title: A tutorial on hardware and networks.

• Introduction: The lesson will provide professional

development training for K- 12 classroom teachers

and enable them to understand hardware and

networking systems. In addition, teachers will

understand the impact of these mediums on their

classroom instructions.

•Content Area: Hardware and networks

Page 3: Hardware and network project

•Age level of students: K-12 classroom teachers

•Objectives: The participants will learn

hardware/networks and their impact on teachers’

classroom instructions.

•Standards Addressed: N/A

•Timeline: 2 hours

•Material: Different articles relevant to the topic and

online resources

Page 4: Hardware and network project

•Grouping Strategies: First of all, participants will

listen a trainer’s lecture. After that they will discuss

the topic in their groups.

•Learning Activities: First, the trainer will deliver his

lecture. After that they will discuss the concepts

about hardware/networks and their impact on

teachers’ classroom instructions. At the end,

participants will also take a test.

Page 5: Hardware and network project

•Diversity: Special needs of the participants will be

addressed by using easy language, academic

prompts, repeated instructions, and individual

attentions on the participants.

•Assessment: Observation and a multiple choice

questions’ test will be applied to determine students’

learning and understanding about the topic.

Basic Parts of a Computer

•All kinds of computers have three basic parts:

• Input devices: Keyboard, camera, scanner, and mouse.

• Central Processing Unit (CPU): Memory, control, and arithmetic units.

• Output devices: Monitor, printer, speakers, and headphones. (https://ariewibisono.wordpress.com/2014/04/10/computer-cpuinput-and-output-devices/)

What is a Network

• A network consists of two or more computers which are

linked with each other to share resources such as CDs and

printers. This network also allows electronic

communications and exchange files between the linked

computers. Internet is an excellent example of a network

which connects billions of people all over the world.

Types of Networks

• Local Area Network (LAN): A network that is limited to

a small area is called a local area network (LAN) Such

as a writing lab, building, or school networks.

•Wide Area Network (WAN): Wide area networks

connect networks in substantially wide geographical

areas such as Arkansas, the United States, or the world.

Advantages of Installing a School Network

• Removes security issues

• Stores and shares information

• Connects instructors, administrators, students, and parents

with each other

• Provides internet

• Facilitates services such as school directories, registration,

course schedules, access to email accounts, and research

What is an Operating System

•An operating system is the most significant software

which runs on a computer. It manages and

coordinates many functions such as memory,

process, hardware, and software. A computer is

nothing without an operating system.

Responsibilities of the Teachers

• Learn the basics of hardware, software, networking,

and operating system

• Use computer technology and networking effectively to

enhance students’ learning

• Establish connections among administrators,

instructors, students, and parents

• Ease access to lessons, research, and free lectures
