Why eeWiSE is particularly relevant to our strategic planning?
It concerns a major strategic priority of the EU countries, which include: promotion of energy saving solutions, including retrofitting:
environmental friendly approaches, in order to face the increasing regional electrical-energy demand,
project strategies and methodologies expected to bring a substantial contribution to energy saving solutions in order to approach EU targets (20% of green energy by 2020),
use of expected outputs in order to generate concrete projects (i.e. low energy lighting in the harbour and its buildings, designing and building a zero emissions station for passengers, heating water for use in local SMEs by composting biodegradable waste, retrofitting the harbour’s shops and office buildings, planning a sea energy generation plant in the harbour’s vicinity, etc
support local economic development by use of local green building materials.
The Harbour of Rafina as a partner in WiSE?
• It is a Public authority.• Has a annual budget of nearly 2 million euro.• It serves almost 1.800.000 passengers and 500.000 vehicles, all using
the harbour facilities.• It is governed by a small board of directors.• It has a great collaboration with national and regional authorities.• It has common targets with the Municipality of Rafina and its
neighbouring municipalities (i.e. Marathon)• It has a great relation with local stakeholders (i.e. SMEs, banks, NGOs)• It has the leadership (Borad of Directors) and the human resources
interested and capable in running EU projects that meet its strategic goals.
Why the Harbour of Rafina is a partner in eeWiSE?
The eeWiSE Project Management Team consists mainly of staff members and a small number of external experts all of whom are committed to running this particular environmental project.
The Harbour of Rafina has the capacity to support the networking and dissemination plan of the project:It supports the dissemination of project results and outcomes by organising meetings, sending press releases and articles to the local press; its aim is to sensitise local stakeholders and to provide information about retrofittingIt is open to the idea of informing all Greek harbours about the results of the project (as a member of ELIME – Greek Harbours Network).
The Definition of TermsRetrofitting/Renovation/Refurbishment of a Building
Task 1.1a
The term ‘refurbish’ indicates “to furbish anew; to repolish, do up again.”
•The term ‘renovate’ implies “to renew materially; to repair; to restore by replacing lost or damaged parts; to create anew.”
•In brief, ‘renovation’ and ‘refurbishment’ are usually used in relation to the conversion of old buildings to their previous original conditions. Especially ‘refurbishment’ may be defined as the reinforcement of buildings.
•‘Retrofitting’, may be the renewal or reparation of old buildings to improve current conditions by adding new equipment.
The energy efficient retrofitting flow chart given below indicates how a retrofitting process may be planned.
Thanks for your attention!See you in Rafina soon!
