www.hampsteadhorticulturalsociety.yolasite.com [email protected]Happy New Year for 2016 Hello again And yes we are very late with our greetings and this Newsletter. We wanted you to get the up to date news of our week-end and day outings for your 2016 diary. Our Chair Rosie Hunt will start the newsletter and then we will continue with the usual news. Members have wanted to know what it happening to the HHS. Will we still be active next year? Our chairman and committee have been working hard to find a way for us to continue as a horticultural society, giving our members an opportunity to join with another garden club. No luck so far. So 2016 will probably be our winding down year unless more members join the committee. This year we will continue with our garden day trips and week-end away. However, we will not be holding our Spring and Autumn Shows and Plant Sales due to lack of support. We will have a special afternoon garden party with a horticultural speaker. We look forward to seeing you all again at the AGM on 20th March 2016 at Burgh House, Hampstead from 2.30 - 4.30pm. There will be a horticultural talk, by George Lockwood, we were so pleased with his talk that we have asked him back, to speak “On flowers in the garden all year round” followed by Q&A. Garden Party at Gerlinde’s will be a Tea Party this year, not the usual evening do. Saturday 23 July 3pm – 5.30 at:116 Hamilton Terrace, NW8 9UT. Cups and trophies should be returned at the AGM or to Margaret Scanlon at 17 Sanderstead Avenue NW2 1SE. Tel: 020 8452 3143. editor bit And hear we are again doing what gardeners do best, talk about “The Weather” what can I say, confusing both to wild life, plants and us. I will say that my electricity bill is down, no need to go in the red this year. But what a mess for flooded areas, my sympathies go out to all those folk. What about the farmland, how will the flooding effect our daily greens, be better or worse. I hope you keen gardeners don’t lose plants to rot. The wood land and forests will no doubt be growing strong. At our Prize giving 1 st November 2015 we had an excellent talk on “How to keep your soil healthy” and save money by George Lockwood, make and grow your own liquid compost soaking chopped nettles (nitrogen) and Comfrey for flower growth in separate containers, and works as an accelerant in your compost heap. We ran over time with questions flying. Even at this late stage we are hoping for someone to come forward and continue with the Hampstead Horticultural Soc. Don’t let it END on its 70 th YEAR! Mary Betts
