WIMBLEDON FARMERS' MARKET
WIMBLEDON PARK
FARMERS’ MARKET
If you fancy trying some different
foods, you’ll find that Wimbledon is a
bit of a foodie paradise. There’s no
better place for an amazing gourmet
experience than Wimbledon Park
Farmers’ Market. Every Saturday
from 9am to 1pm the market sets
up in the playground of Wimbledon
Park Primary School in Havana
Road SW19 8EJ. You’ll find around
twenty stalls here, selling everything
from rare breed meats to homegrown
cut flowers and plants.
Breadren (#bakingwithoutborders) is an artisan baker happy
to push the boundaries when it comes to trying out globally
inspired recipes. With their roots in England, India and
Africa, the team’s ethos is to combine classic techniques with
different flavour combinations, using the best local
ingredients to create delicious sweet and savoury bakes.
Singled out by Rick Stein as one of his ‘Food Heroes’, the
Hand Picked Shellfish Company run by Matt and Steve
from Dorset has been trading since 2001. These two
handson fishermen not only supply freshly caught fish and
seafood, on occasions they also rustle up a mouthwatering
street food Paella.
Ever tried pheasant ravioli? Stoneground organic wheat
bigoli? It’s clear we’re not talking Pizza Express or ASK
here. Seriously Italian does as it says: it gets serious about
Italian food, making artisanal pasta, pesto, ravioli and
lasagne with locallysourced, fresh produce. Savour the
aromas of basil and garlic and grab some lunch as you
browse the stalls.
MERTON ABBEY MILLS
Merton Abbey Mills in Colliers Wood
SW19 2RD offers another opportunity to
buy from independent traders selling
food and drink. Located on the site of
the historic Merton Priory, Abbey Mills
Market is open every weekend Saturday
and Sunday, 11am – 5pm. The main
focus is on artists and makers but you’ll
also find a small farmers’ market here,
together with some interesting shops
and restaurants.
Cut & Cured is a tiny delicatessen selling a range
of UK cheeses, cured meats and delicacies, while
the Wimbledon Craft Beer Emporium serves
selected ales and beers from exciting regional
microbreweries. There’s also a children’s farm on
the site to keep the little ones amused.
