H.4.2 BQAED OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES March 30, 196c The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended March 23: Decreases of $273 million in loans adjusted, $264 million in holdings of U. S. Government securities, $451 million in reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks, $1,083 million in demand deposits ad- justed, and $491 million in demand deposits credited to domestic banks, and an increase of $207 million in U. S. Government demand deposits. Commercial and industrial loans decreased in most districts and a total of $22 mil- lion. Loans for purchasing or carrying U. S. Government and other securities decreased $173 million. Loans to nonbank financial institutions decreased $46 million. Holdings of Treasury bills decreased $210 million and the combined total of Treasury notes and U. S. Government bonds decreased $66 million. Holdings of "other" securities decreased $106 million. Time deposits other than interbank increased $103 million, largely reflecting an increase of $86 million in deposits of individual, partnerships, and corporations. CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

March 30, 196c

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended March 23: Decreases of $273 million in loans adjusted, $264 million in holdings of U. S. Government securities, $451 million in reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks, $1,083 million in demand deposits ad-justed, and $491 million in demand deposits credited to domestic banks, and an increase of $207 million in U. S. Government demand deposits.

Commercial and industrial loans decreased in most districts and a total of $22 mil-lion. Loans for purchasing or carrying U. S. Government and other securities decreased $173 million. Loans to nonbank financial institutions decreased $46 million.

Holdings of Treasury bills decreased $210 million and the combined total of Treasury notes and U. S. Government bonds decreased $66 million. Holdings of "other" securities decreased $106 million.

Time deposits other than interbank increased $103 million, largely reflecting an increase of $86 million in deposits of individual, partnerships, and corporations.
