Dear Friends of Holy Spirit, One of the blessings of being a priest at Holy Spirit is the presid-ing at funerals. Each year we have between 70-80 funerals with about 70% occurring in the church and 30% occurring at the funeral home (this is usually a funeral service without a full Mass). We encourage fam-ilies to come to church for the funeral so that we can celebrate the Mass of the Resurrection for the deceased loved one. The week of August 8-13th, we celebrated Masses of Resurrection for Vi Southard and Richard Bierck. Both of these good people were married for over 60 years and were parishioners at Holy Spirit for most of those years. Part of the role of being a parishioner is praying for each other. Whenever you hear the name of a de-ceased person in the Sunday Prayers of the Faithful or in the bulletin, remember to pray for both the deceased and his/her family. It is a gift we can offer. Fr. Chris is gone for a couple weeks. This first week he is on retreat and then he will be vacationing for about a week. He returns on the 26th and will then spend the weekend at a retreat with our high schoolers who are preparing for Confirmation on September 19th. The re-treat is a big part of their preparation for this sacra-mentLso say a prayer for them. School has gotten off to a great start! We have 82 new students in the school with 37 of those being in kin-dergarten! Welcome to all the families who have joined our school program and know that we are here to help. Call if you need us. God’s Blessings and Love, Fr. Paul

RCIA INVITATIONS

It’s time to begin thinking of persons to invite to RCIA. You are the best means of contacting potential new parish members. Classes begin

in mid-August and continue until Easter. This course is for non-Catholic persons who are interested in joining the Catholic Church, for

Catholics who want a good Catholic up-date, and for Catholic adults who want to be confirmed. Call the Parish Office at 353-9404 or call the

Religious Education Office at 357-6915 to submit a name.

NURSE MINISTRY

Reminder: please return surveys for Health Ministry to Parish Office or place in collection basket. Thanks to all who stopped by the blood pressure tables this last week we had a good turn out. Please remember that you can help control your blood pressure by making just a few lifestyle changes, watching those labels for sodium, increasing your exercise ( parking a little farther from the door), and decreasing your stress (prayer helps). Small changes will add up! If you know a parishioner who is home bound and might enjoy a monthly card from the parish please let us know. Contact [email protected] or leave name and ad-dress at 3539404 ext 8. If you need a ride to a medical appt please let us know so that we can assist. 353 9404 ext 8

HOLY SPIRIT CHOIR It's time to consider giving a little of your time and talent here at Holy Spirit. We need singers for our 10:30AM Sunday choir. We welcome all voice parts! ! ! Anyone who is high school age or older may join and grade students may join with a parent. Our rehearsals are Thursday evenings in church from 7:30 to 9PM. We sing aproximately 3 weekends every month from September to May and for special feasts (like Christmas and Holy Week). If you enjoy singing - please consider being a part of our choir. We would really like to have new members join in this rewarding ministry. For information please call Paula Slinger, 353-9404 or 562-0197 or come to the piano after Mass and speak with someone. Remember -" who sings, prays twice!"

MINISTRIES IN NEED OF HELP? If you are in charge of a ministry at Holy Spirit that is in need of extra hands, and would like us to include a request for new membership on our Christ our Hope stewardship card, please write up a small informational announcement and send it to [email protected] or bring it to the Parish Office. Instead of the big ministry list, this year we will just list some ministries that are especially in need of some more partici-pants. The Christ our Hope stewardship cards will be distrib-uted in the fall, so you could have some feedback by Decem-ber or January. Questions? Suzy McLaughlin or Kathy Pea-cock, 353-9404, ext. 4.

All boys in 1st through 5th grades and their parents are invited come to sign up for Cub Scouts. Cub Scout Pack 46 has been at Holy Spirit since 1968 and offers a year-round program including Family Campouts, Hiking and Fishing, the Pinewood Derby and Space Derby, Summer Camp at Camp Belzer, the best Cub Scout Camp in the World, and Circuit of Fun including activities such as Hoosier Outdoors at Ft. CUB SCOUTS IS FUN ... WITH A PURPOSE.

Cub Scouts helps families and boys by offering a well-rounded program that positively affects every area of a boy's life. It encourages boys to achieve a deeper appreciation of others, including peers, parents and other adults. Early in their Scouting experience, boys learn the value of serving others. We hold an annual Clean Up Day at Holy Spirit and Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army before Christmas. Cub Scouts provides boys with a sense that they are important as individuals, and promotes activities that lead to personal responsibility and high esteem. And families can be proud of their CUB SCOUTS, and have fun with them as well.
