Sysem description

Designed and engineered as all-electronic computer-controlled system in bus technology and de-centralized construction, Siedle-Multi can be deployed both as door and in-house communication systemas well as an information system.

All system components are interconnected by means of a bus line with maximum of 8 wires in parallelwiring. No additional branch exchanges or system managers are required for operation.

Sectors of application and target groups for MULTI from Siedle• Larger objects with demands regarding functionality and traffic-carrying capacity• Objects with several building parts and many entrances• Guarded objects with both porter and concierge functions• Objects with flexible usage, e.g. for office and mixed-usage property• Objects in the social field, such as old people’s residential centers, foster homes and health-resort cliniccenters• Objects with demands to high-performance video-monitoring

The essential system characteristics are as follows:• Discrete half-duplex operation where monitoring is barred• Two speech paths which are programmable (optionally selectable are 1 global speech path and up to 15local speech paths)• Decentral organization, where all system subscribers can be connected at any location, where no mas-ter PBXs (private branch exchanges) or control units are required• Bus range 800 (1000) m, installed line-network max. 5;000 m• Number of subscribers: 500 addressable locations, independent of the deployed subscribers• max. 254 of door-loudspeakers with input keyboard, display with directory of occupants, or connectionof selectively-ringing keys.• All-modular door-loudspeaker program in Vario or Steel design from Siedle• Selectively-ringing door-loudspeakers, Doormatic- and admission-control functions• Various application-oriented internal-telephone variations• Various control and supervisory units• Lift, emergency-call and malfunction-indication units• Telephone stations with emergency-call and indication equipment for the deployment in social andhealth-care fields• Powerful porter- and concierge features• Special telephone and alerting equipment• Connecting of system-integrated high-performance one- and Multi-channel video components• Surveillance cameras with direct dialling and CCTV-options• Individual programming and configurating each subscriber manually, or in combination with PC/Laptop• Most simple installation through bus lines with 8 wires, i.e. making possible arbitrary branches; the linenetwork can be designed nearly freely and is unlimitedly expandable without onerous later installation• The supply of all components is performed via the system-bus lines with system voltage of uniformly24 V DC; the units are free of main power-line voltage• All system components are freely mixable and combinable to create one integrated system.• Application of group systems with each own speech path and video cannel, up to 15 local cannels andone global cannel

Emergency-call functions of MULTI from Siedle are not designed for hospital deployment.

Planning and installation

IntroductionThe basic condition for reliable functioning of electronic communication systems, in particular bus sys-tems, is correctly, optimally planned and thoroughly-performed installing. The straight-forward, open bus structure of the Siedle Multi facility opens-up an individual and flexiblestructuring perspective to the network, and a simple, reproducible planning of most complex systems aswell.

Especially when employing bus systems characterized by most simple wiring conditions, a low number ofwires, and parallel wiring, as well as in connection with wide-area facilities with many subscribers andfunctions, care must be taken to ensure that no bad planning and installing executed by unskilled personswill both destroy all the advantages of the present system and lead to malfunctions and expensive trou-bleshooting.For this reason, special care must be taken to adhere exactly to the planning and installing instructionswhich will follow below.

Planning-help documentationTo plan and perform the installing work, Siedle offers a variety of help services:

• detailed advising services through specially-trained Siedle Field Service employees and/or SiedleCustomer Engineer Service organizations will be provided before and during the planning phase• creating a bid (quotation) in compliance with the real execution conditions, together with a structuredgeneral connection diagram• while creating the project, supporting and advising services will be provided (on-site installing advisory)• putting the object into operation, and explaining the functions and operation to the employees• specially-trained Field-Engineering-Division employees will be available for Servicing and Repairing• to create/modify general-connection and circuit diagrams in a simple way, apply the software tools of theFCAD-32 CAD system• the corresponding product-information (PI) publications and documentation-help software is available onCD-ROM• check list for capturing basic data regarding the facility-planning functions• training courses and seminars• when desiring further information to any Siedle Multi projects, do not hesitate to call the Siedle Hotline at+49 7723 63378, please.

Structure of the planning-help documentationThe topics of this planning-help documentation are:

• product chart• function chart• planning the installation for audio and video applications• planning the voltage supply• planning group systems• general planning-guidelines• instructions to putting-into-operation and servicing• standard general-diagrams, and standard wiring-diagrams

Video part

The video bus is constructed with 75-Ohm coaxial cables for the video transmission, a twisted pair of wi-res for the voltage supply, and the die control lines (H/V) to control the position of the cameras.Shared-laying of video supply and control lines in the Siedle MULTI audio cable, in principle, is possible. For reasons of clarity, however, we recommend to use a separate cable, twisted pairs, AWG 20e.g. JY-ST-Y-6x2x0,8-mm or compatible. The supply wires have to be doubled in side circuits. All the wires have to be laid in compliance with anuniform color system in the entire facility. It is recommended to apply the above indicated internationallystandardized color key.

Structure of installation

When installing the bus system, you can execute any form in principle. Thereby, the below specified limitvalues must be observed:

• max. range between the most remote subscribers 800 m (1,000 m)• entire line-length installed for 500 subscribers 5,000 m ∗1)• max. line-length from the TL controller to the functional modules 200 m• max. length of the coaxial-bus trunk, or to the terminals 250 m

∗1) When installing less than 100 subscribers, any exceeding of the entire cable length of 2,000 m cancause functional problems, by reason of the large line-capacity relative to the low load. In this case, wire 3has to be terminated by 1 kOhm to wire 2 at the end of the risers.

To reach optimal operating conditions, in the case of greater facilities as well, i.e. sufficient voltage supply, shortest line lengths, maintainability, etc., the installation has to be executed as the so-called side-circuitsystem with floor distributions. The power-supply units have to be distributed evenly according to the load-distribution in the facility, e.g.in the floor distributors.Pure star-type, or feeding-through installations, as well as large ring-circuits are not permitted.

Simple side-circuit systemsLooping telephones in the floorsWhen employing video one-channel facilities, the video installation can be looped in the floorsas well.

Installing telephones with a star-type con-nection to the floor distributorWhen installing video multi-channel facilities, the coaxial lines must be laid with a star-typeconnection to the switching units.

Planning the power supply

When planning the mains supply, special care must be devoted, because the operativeness and function-safeguarding of the facility will depend decisively, and under any operating conditions, on a sufficient po-wer supply.

Supplying the audio systemThe voltage supply of the system is 24 VDC nominal (22 - 28 V), and must not drop-down below 22 V atany unit during operation.Because all the units in the bus system are voltage-supplied through the system wires 1 and 2, positio-ning of the supply units in the network will be required in a load-depending and even way.

Supplying the video systemThe video components are supplied by 24 VDC (20 – 30 V) as well. To avoid humming and coupling in-terference, however, it is electrically decoupled from the supply of the audio system. Comparable withthe audio system, positioning of the supply units in the network will be required in a load-depending wayas well.

When planning and calculating, special care must be taken regarding:- overall power-requirements of the facility- voltage drop at the lines- local conditions for the positioning of the supply units

Applying the "LU", and "VLU" connected-load unitsTo simplify the calculation of the required number of supply units, so called "LU" connected-load unitshave been introduced for each unit. These are statistical values referring to an entire facility, however, they cannot be compared directly to the actual peak current specified in the technical data hereto. There is a different basis to the "LU" audio connected-load units and the "VLU" video connected-load u-nits, because the "mean power requirements" of the units are different as well.

The connected-load units to all the units are specified in the following charts, or can be taken from thecorresponding product information sheets.

Power-supply unitsThe standard power-supply unit for the Siedle Multi audio and video supply is the NG-640- 0 unit (alterna-tive to NG 408-02).In addition, the BNG-630-0 and VNG-602-0 power-supply units will be available for special applications.

Designation Output LU audio VLU video RemarkNG 640-0 28VDC 60 40 can be switched in parallel / UL approved unitNG 408-02 28 VDC 50 20 can be switched in parallel / discontinuedBNG 630-0... 24 - 28 VDC 15 10 cannot be switched in parallelVNG 602-0.. 30 VDC 15 10 cannot be switched in parallel to the NG-408-...

or NG 640-0 power-supply unit

To supply the voice channels, one SVG 641-0 per voice channel will be required. By preference, thepower-supply units for supplying the global voice-channels have to be installed in the geometric center ofthe network to the facility. To supply door openers, etc., the TR-640-0 and TR-602-0 transformers are available. Do not supply thedoor openers through the system voltage. Do not apply shared laying of the supply cables in the systembus.

Line filterTo protect against coupling interference and as overvoltage fine-protection, a special MF-640-0 line filterwill be available. In principle, it has to be integrated in the mains supply-cable to distributions with power-supply units. A maximum of 3 NG-408-02 power-supply units must only be connected per line filter. In combinaton with NG 640-0 a line filter MFS 640-0 with bus switch on/off function must be used.

27

Planning and installation

Calculating power requirements

To perform the calculation, the audio load-units LU of all the units connected with the corresponding sidegroup will be added at a node selected for supplying (distributor). The sum will be divided by the LU num-ber of the selected power-supply-unit type. The result of this calculation will be the number of power-supply units required at this node. Rounding-up will always be required (± 3-LU tolerance).

Please note:You should select such supply points that a max. of 2 parallel power-supply units per node will be requi-red in risers (high supply-currents result into large voltage drops).

When calculating the VLU video load-units, the fact that active cameras and monitors only require fullpower has to be regarded. When idle, all the units activated through controllers (KSM 640-..., HVS 644-...)do not require any power (VLU = 0). If activating by internal telephones through the ZMO-… connectors, however, permanently supplied cameras and monitors will require, when idle, only the Standby VLUs.This also applies to the switched VMO-511-2 video distributor in video one-channel facilities.

Calculating the voltage drop of trunk linesWhen employing long lines, or looped-through installing of units, a voltage drop will be caused at the lineby reason of the flowing supply current. This voltage drop can be significant, and can lead to under-supplyconditions, in particular regarding the units positioned at the end of the trunk group. The average voltagedrop per subscriber and a 10-m line section will result 0.04 V with audio, and 0.1 V with video. This seems to be a little, however, it multiplies depending on increasing subscriber quantities and longerlines. When employing long lines and looped-through installation, it will be indispensable to make this cal-culation.To simplify the calculation, the following formula can be applied for considering a trunk line:

Audio voltage-drop = sum of all the LU connected video-load-units x 0.004 x line length (m)

Video voltage-drop = sum of all the VLU connected video-load-units x 0.01 x line length (m)

All the considerations refer to twisted pair cable, 0.8 mm (AWG 20).When doubling the supply wires 1 / 2, or 15 / 16, the voltage drop will be reduced by 50%.

Please note:When doubling. the pairs of wires to + / - have to be kept. The calculation of the voltage drop must be executed for each side circuit between 2 nodes, starting at thesupplying node (UV = 0 V). The single voltage-drops have to be added.(For further information, refer to the sample calculation on page 29, please).

The partitioning of an entire facility into topological (trunk-wise) subscriber groups makes possible theability to enhance both the speech and video capacity from basic two to a maximum of 15 speech- andvideo connections at the same time.In group systems, the speech path 1 in principle is a global speech path, the earlier speech path 2 beco-mes as a group speech path. In systems with a included multi cannel video system, the video cannel 4then automaticly becomes as a group video cannel.

Partitioning is always intelligent, if the main calling-rate is generated within the same subscriber group, forexample according to the following criteria:- building parts with own entrances- floors or rental areas- global door stations, belonging preferably to one answering station only, e.g. the Porter.

However, in case a facility expects to a great extent overlapped connections, or partitioning of the subsc-ribers is completely open, for example to door loudspeakers, group partitioning should be avoided.Any free selection of group subscribers from topologically-different building parts is not advisable, becau-se of the view of a straight-forward bus structure.

Planning and installation

Important rules to the planning of group facilitiesAll the subscribers of the same group use preferably the group voice-channel, or video-channel.The installation of the group voice-channels (7xx / 8xx) must not be connected among the groups. In case there is already a global installation present, disconnect the voice channel 2 (7/8) at the groupboundaries.

To supply the group voice-channel, each group will receive its own SVG 641 unit.Using the second supply (7/8) of the NVG 642-0 unit for any group is not allowed.

Within PBX facilities consisting of both several PBXs and an "active/passive"-function, all the PBXs mustbelong to one and the same group (as a rule, to group 15)

With facilities equipped with video control-systems, door cameras of the same group only, or globalsubscribers without group voice-channel, can be switched to the same VKS-644 unit. In the same way, monitors of the same group can be switched to the same VMS-644 unit, otherwise the function of thegroup video-channel will be incorrect.

In overlapping side circuits, shared laying should apply to the - unused – pair of wires (7/8) for the secondglobal voice channel, and it should be layed in the distributions, to enable any later changing of thegroup’s composition, if applicable.

When planning, in any case one SCO-740-0.. unit should be integrated into group facilities, because theHT 740-0.. internal-telephone function of assigning to one group can only be performed by means of theSCO-740-0.. unit.

When employing convenient one-channel video in facilities, the formation of groups will be impossible.

Group-parallel call and group-collective callIf the facility is partitioned into groups, then one selective door-parallel call, or collective call, per group willbe possible in addition to the global door parallel-call / collective-call.Group collective-calls can be enabled only from the HT-644-0... unit.In this case, one additional SAC-640-0 unit per group voice-channel has to be planned.

Summary- an additional, separate speech- and video cannel per group is available- a SVG 641-0 per group is neccessary- the NVG 642-0 must not be used to supply a group speech path- the earlier speech path 2, in group systems converts to a group speech path, separatly for each group- at multi cannel video applications, the video cannel 4 converts to a group video cannel- VMS / VKS 644 must be set only in a only one and the same group- the formation of groups is only intelligent, if the main calling-rate is generated within the same subscribergroup- in convenient one-cannel video systems, the formation of groups is not possible

Planning and installation guide line

General guide linesUse a checklist. To help you draw up a list of basic data for planning your installation, prepared check-list form sheets are available. These contain all the key words and questions necessary for planning.

1. Preliminary planningThe following points can be clarified at this stage:- System performance features, functional scope- Conductor arrangement and routing- Definition and placement of distribution boxs, preparation of space requirement- Installation location of units, provision of switch boxes, wall recessing etc.- Incoming feeder points for power supply

2. Installation materialOnly cables with twisted-pair cores, core diameter 0.8 mm ( AWG 20) may be used.Unsuitable materials:- Untwisted conductors, such as single wires (YR); these can result in malfunctions- Conductors with low core diameter; reduced ranges and increased susceptibility to faults- open stranded wires: Increased wiring input due to mounting of core end ferrules or soldering

The audio system requires a maximum of 8 cores. However, in trunk lines, cores 1 and 2 must bedoubled. In addition, we recommend using a reserve pair for special applications.

The video system needs additional wires for video power supply and the pan/tilt (H/V) control lines. Asat the audio wiring, pairs of wires will also be used. The wires from the video part is allowed to feed into the same cable as the audio part. Recommendedis, to use a separate cable for audio and video bus lines. For the video transmission, generally coaxial cable 70 Ohm has to be used, e.g. RG 59 or similar qua-lity with low absorbtion rates, with a max. diameter of 10 mm.For a full extended systems with 4 video cannels, a cable, 6 twisted pairs is required.

Therefore: Generally use cable shielded, twisted pairs 6 x 2 x 0.8 mm (AWG 20)

3. Cable installationThe general safety regulations for telecommunications systems must be observed.- Adhere to a distance from heavy current conductors and use separate segments in all cable routes.- Never run cables over great lengths parallel to conductors feeding highly inductive or capacitive usersor high-frequency devices.- In distribution boxs, pay attention to ensuring sufficient distance away from heavy current carryingcomponents.- The cable shielding or the cable cores must never come into contact with earth (earth con-ductor,housing frames or other earthed components. Never clip cable shields together.

4. Using existing installationsThe suitability of existing installations for use according to the conditions outlined above must be che-cked in advance.Check not only the existence of suitable installation material but also the condition of distribution boxs, terminating points etc.Defects and unusable parts must be exchanged, terminals renewed. This must be checked at all costs prior to submitting any quotation. Patching up afterwards can be ahighly cost-intensive business, functional defects due to poor wiring can necessitate exchanging theentire network. If in doubt, consult a Siedle specialist.

33

Planning and installation

5. Installation together with non-Siedle systemsNo non-Siedle systems may be laid with the system cable, neither is it permissible for non-Siedle sys-tems to use the installation for the system bus. This applies also to Telecom and PBX installations. The following may be laid with the system cable:- All system control conductors such as call button switchover, relay driving conductors- Control conductors for video activation, supply cores (pairs) for 24 V system video supplyNot permitted are:- Supply lines for door releases (use seperate cable for door release)- Generally alternating voltage, for example for pushbutton illumination- Electromechanical Control devices (timer and flip flop relays) for automatic staircase systems

6. Installation limitsThe maximum range between the most distant users in the conductor network 800 m / 1000 mThe length of the entire installed conductor network is limited with 254 users to 5000 mThe maximum distance between TLC 640-0 and door function modules is 200 m

If the number of users is below 100 and total lengths exceed 2000 m, the line ends (i.e. line 2 and 3)must be terminated at the end of the trunk lines if necessary. See commissioning regulations. The range and positioning of line rectifiers depends on the load and the related voltage drops in the in-dividual cable lines. For calculation and optimum positioning of line rectifiers, see the chapter "Planningthe mains supply".

7. Identification of conductorsAll incoming conductors at distribution boxs must be identified and documented without fail. This identi-fication must still be legible after stripping and mounting.Without suitable identification, conductors can only be identified with a great degree of difficultyduring commissioning and troubleshooting. For installation and documentation of conductors, printed forms "Cabling plan" are available.

8. Compiling installation and distribution plansWiring arrangements, the position and identification of distribution boxs must be documented withoutfail. A sensible way to do this is using a cable size diagram.A breakdown of the units in the distribution box, as well as the number and type of terminal units con-nected to the distribution box must also be drawn up.This is necessary to permit calculation and planning of the required line rectifiers.

During generation of a proposal from Siedle directly, an object-adapted cable-distribution plan is pre-pared. This plan is basic for all forward planning of power supply, creating of distribution boxes andset of unit address pattern.

9. Connection of subscriber and control unitsThe units are equipped with screw or screw-clamp type terminals. The connecting terminals must notbe used as distribution box sockets.A maximum of 2 cores per terminal (incoming and outgoing) are permitted.Under every in-house telephone, a standard flush 55 mm box must be provided as a cable storagecompartment and terminal distribution box. For larger junction points, a separate box may have to beprovided.In-house telephones are not on principle intended for direct mounting on terminal boxes and mustnot be dismantled for installation.

34

General planning and installation guideline

10. Structure and wiring of distribution boxs and terminalsThe structure of distribution boxs and wiring must be performed neatly so as to afford maximum clarity.- Carefully strip cables, using foil screens and wires- Do not separate twisted pairs but secure immediately after stripping- Always use terminal strips/solder strips or terminal blocks with screw terminals- If you process belden cable, please use terminal ferrules.- Position units in such a way that the wiring length is as low as possible and the units are accessible.- Mount line rectifiers together, keeping the power supply cable as short as possible. Do not lay it betweensystem conductors. When using mains filters, integrate the filter as close to the incoming feeder as pos-sible.Please note: The video control units VKS 644-..., VMS 644-..., VBU 644-..., VBV 642-0 needs verticalmore space, then a standard thin rail mounting unit (see page 37).- Lay conductors to the terminal strips in such a way that line-by-line separation of installation sections, side circuits and feeders is possible.- Never lay more than two conductors to one terminal.- Marke every terminal strip with a separate designation.- An AD 316 socket must be installed in every trunk line/distribution box for testing purposes.

The following are not permitted:- Twisting together and insulating of wires (point connections)- Utilization of LSA/NSA-Plus strips (no separation of conductors possible, contact problems in case ofmultiple terminal assignment, lack of clarity for bus conductors)- Strips with cage clamp springs which are not expressly suitable for light current wiring with 0.8 mm wirediameter- Use of terminal blocks (lamp-wire connectors) without wire protection.

11. Checking the installationThe finished installation must be checked prior to commissioning for short circuits, confused connecti-ons, or interruptions. Testing must take place when the system is deenergized. At the line rectifiers, remove core 4, The NVG 642-0 must also be deenergized. Telephones and controlunits can remain connected during testing. Please assure, no wire or part of, is connected to ground or earth line of the main power side.

12. CommissioningCommissioning is performed when the installation has been completed.Siedle offers a complete acceptance service performed by trained after-sales service technicians at aflat rate price. This acceptance process includes alongside a full guarantee of functionality for allsystem devices for a two-year period also the following:Please ask your Siedle representant for more and detailled information.

13. System documentationA variety of prepared form sheets onto the Siedle-Multi-CD-ROM are available for system documentati-on. These are available as Microsoft Word form and can be printed out or edited. In addition, on placement of a system order, the executing installer receives straight away not only the-se planning and installation guidelines but also a custom-tailored breakdown of product information andcircuit diagrams with the relevant prepared form sheets. After commissioning, a revised set of documentation must be sent to Siedle for archiving.

In case of questions relating to planning or for a demonstration of the system, please contact y-our nearest Siedle training and exhibition centre or your Siedle partner.

Special Features for video applications

Connecting cameras and monitorsThe video connection is through coaxial cable. The inputs / outputs of the switching units are equippedwith single screw-terminals with clamp, the video-bus connections with double terminals and clamps.Connection for coaxial cable up to 10 mm ∅.The connection of the switching and control cables is carried out through plug-in screw terminals. To connect the CMM/CMC-611 and/or the VTSM-611-... system cameras, the KVM-640-03 camera con-nection-module is fundamentally required. When applying flush-mounted installation, the KVM-640-03 unit can be installed instead of the connectionadapter directly behind the camera. When applying surface-mounted flat-type installation, one separate module location directly next to, orbelow the camera, and a BM-611-0... dummy cover as well, will be required for the KVM-640-03 unit.

Operating cameras continuously, or when supplying continuouslyWhen the camera is in continuous operation, e.g. monitoring cameras, provision has to be made for ex-ternal illumination. To connect the external illumination, the AR-85911... connection relay, e.g., can beused. This relay will be driven through the switching-on contact of the camera switching-units.The internal camera-illumination of the CMM/CMC system cameras has to be taken out of operation atthe KVM-640-02 unit by leaving-out the connection (L+) and (c1).When applying continuous operation, the internal heating has to be switched-off as well (refer to the pro-duct-information sheet to the KVM 640-0..., please).

Parallel operation of several internal telephones and monitorsParallel operation of several subscribers with the same unit address is possible. The monitors are con-nected individually to the outputs of the VMS-644-0 unit, and are then given the same address when as-signing the outputs to unit addresses. Interconnecting via aVMO-511... unit, etc., is not necessary. When calculating the supply voltage, the connected-load units of all the parallel monitors have be takeninto consideration.

Dialing cameras directlyEach camera can be directly connected through a unit address.Selecting is through switching-functions in conjunction with an HT-644-... unit and a MFM-611-10 unit.If assigning a camera to a door-loudspeaker, it can also be activated and de-activated separately througha switching function equivalent to the door-loudspeaker address at the MFM-611-10 unit. When switching-on a camera assigned to an HT-644... unit into continuous operation, and a door call willbe to this station, it will be switched-over to the door camera for the duration of the call. After completionof the door call, the unit will switch-over automatically back to continuous monitoring.

Scanning operationWhen being in the scan mode, several cameras can be intruded sequentially to one monitor assigned to aHT-644... unit, e.g. for external-monitoring purposes. Switching-over to the next camera is automatically ina fixedly-programmed time grid.To activate or deactivate the scanning operation, a remote-switching function can be used.

Porter’s desk cameraYou can install a separate camera for a voice subscriber with an HT-644... unit, e.g. for the central te-lephone station. Then, whenever a subscriber is calling from the central telephone station, this camera willbe activated and will transmit a video image, e.g. of the visitor at the reception desk, to the called subscri-ber. When a subscriber is calling the central telephone station, however, no image will be transmitted.

Switching imagesWhenever switching a door call, or forwarding a call from an HT-644... unit, the corresponding video con-nection will be transferred as well. The switching function will be possible in both directions, i.e., to and from the door.

Video planning

Installation conditionsFor mounting the particular units and devices, the installation and mounting instructions contained in therespective product information must be observed. This is especially true for mounting the cameras. The unit heights and the reporting angle are to be ob-served in this case. In addition, the mounting location must be selected so that no direct sunlight or oppo-site light from external lighting sources shines into the camera lens.

Space reqired for video switching unitsFor the space required for mountingof the switch and control units, please refer to the" Built-in Switchboard Dimensions" list.

Please note:The HVS 644 unit pertaining to the respective VKSand / or VMS 644 unit must be mounted directly onthe right of the VKS and / or VMS unit, so that thetotal width per unit combination results to 12 widthunits. The connection of the units is carried out via a rib-bon cable which is attached to the HVS 644 unit.

Special hints for multi-channel video applicationen

VBU 644-0 inter-connection of video side circuitsin central distributions.

Video side circuits must be inter-connected with the correct impedance (75 Ohm) and they must be termi-nated. Only one side circuit may simultaneously be operated per connection node as a video source (ca-mera signal). Any other lines must be switched to outputs (into monitor direction). The VBU 644-0 unit has 4 inputs / outputs (ports), which can be switched by the VCO 640 unit either assignal input or as line driver, depending on which side circuit the video-camera signal is currently beingapplied to. In addition, up to 4 VBU 644-0 units can be cascaded via two inter-connectors (D in / D out),so that intelligent video nodes of up to 16 side circuits are possible.

One VBU 644-0 unit and / or one group of maximum 4 VBU 644-0 unit is required per video channel. The number of VBUs is determined by the incoming and outgoing main circuits per video channel.Four fixed unit addresses are assigned to every group of four VBU 644-0 units. In the system there are thus up to 4 such groups per video channel, each with 4 ports, i.e. the maximumequipment level possible is 16 side circuits. The assignment of the VBUs to the groups of side circuits and / or to the unit addresses are carried outthroughThe assignment of the DIL switches to the video channels is performed by means of a rotary switch. While programming the VCO 640-0 unit, all cameras connected to this port (floor cameras excepted) areassigned to each port of the particular side circuits

Depending on the number of video channels and the side circuits, nodes for coaxial lines can always berealized cost efficiently.By using the VBU 644-0 unit, planning and laying-out the video side circuits can be performed in the samesimple way as that of the audio side-circuit systems.

Video planning

VBU 644-0 inter-connection of video side circuitsin central distributions.

As a rule, with systems with several building parts and / or houses, the side circuits (both audio and video)of the particular building parts are decentrally junctioned in building sub-distributors. They are cross-connected.You can easily realize such constellations by employing VBU 644-0 units, too. With one rising side and / or side circuit per building part, up to 16 building parts can be cross-linked.When programming, you only have to take care of a complete assignment for all allowed cameras at eachport (also from other building parts).Only one unit address with the ports 1 - 4 / 5 - 8 / 9 - 12 and 13 - 16 is required per 4 building parts, and

Due to a that great flexibility, all constellations between the two extreme housings of a "central and / or de-central " distribution are realizable, providing up to a maximum of 64 ports.

Use of VBU 644-0 units as bi-directional line driverWith line lengths of more than 250m per side circuit, the VBU 644 unit can also be employed as a linedriver. The unit is simply integrated with 2 ports in the coaxial side circuit.

Benchmarks for planning:- Per VBU 644-0 unit: 4 ports (inputs / outputs) for the side circuits of one video channel- Maximum 4 VBU 644-0 units are inter-connectable for maximum 16 side circuits of one video channel- maximum 4 VBU groups in maximum-configuration stage (4 VBU units with 16 ports) per installation- For the side circuits of every additional video channel, the same number of VBUs per node is again re-quired, i.e. the maximum equipment level with 4 video channels and 4 x 16 side circuits requires 64 VBU644-0 units.

The employment of "one" VBU 644-0 unit for "several" video channels is not possible.

Installation of floor cameras

Convenient single-channel video

Application for floor video / door-loudspeakers

The connection of floor cameras in video single-channel systems is performed with the help of the VSU640-0 video switch-over unit. When there is a call from an assigned floor door loudspeaker, the switching unit is activated for a pro-grammable duration of time by a control signal from the TLC 640-01 unit, and it then switches the as-signed floor monitor to the video circuit of the floor camera. The supply and control voltage for the floor monitor and floor camera, as well as the control signals forhorizontal / vertical control are also switched by the VSU 640-0 unit.By means of a programming switch in the VSU 640-0 unit, it is possible to specify whether a floor cameraor the video connection from the side door loudspeaker has priority. In the housing where there are several door loudspeakers with monitor and different unit addresses (max.six) on a floor, one VSU 640-0 unit per monitor is required.Where there are several floor door loudspeakers, one VSU 640 unit per door loudspeaker is required. For the supply to the floor camera (and the floor door opener) one BNG 630-0/1 power supply unit is re-quired.

In order to connect several floor doors and / or several telephone stations with monitors, please:request the special wiring diagrams.

Planning and installation

Multi-channel video system

Application for floor video / door-loudspeakers

Depending on the equipping of the system as a whole with video channels, floor cameras can be con-nected directly to the free bus inputs of the VMS 644-... unit. The floor cameras are activated by means of a KSM 640-0, which is programmed to the address of theassigned floor door-loudspeaker.The floor cameras can also be supplied directly by the video supply bus. In systems with several floor vi-deo door-loudspeakers, the installation of a separate supply for the floor cameras is recommended. The BNG 630-0 unit is especially suitable for this task, because it can not only supply two floor cameras, but also supplies 12 V AC for connection to the floor door opener. The TR 640-0 unit can then be omittedfrom the standard supply. When there is a call from a floor door, the floor cameras are directly connected through to the monitors onthe VMS 644-0 unit, and they place no load on the video coaxial bus.If a floor has more than 4 monitors for the respective floor doors, additional VMS 644-...units can be con-nected. The coaxial inputs of the respective floor cameras are then simply looped-through to the appropri-ate bus input of the next VMS 644-... unit. Please noteBecause the floor video inputs do not place any load on the video bus channels, as many floor video con-nections as desired are possible (even when audio and video bus are already busy). For this reason, the planning of the supply voltage from the video supply bus should be calculated basedon the activity of approximately 50 % of all floor cameras.
