Chapter 1Introducing Version 1.74

Service Pack 2

What’s in Version 1.74 Service Pack 2?

Version 1.74 Service Pack 2 (SP2) provides you, CyberStation Version 1.74 users, with support for TAC’s newer Andover Continuum controllers:

NetController II (CX 9680) - A redesigned, more powerful, more versatile version of the previous-generation NetControllers (CX 990x, CX 994x, and CX 920x).ACX 57xx (5720 and 5740) - The newest generation of TAC access controllers. Designed to replace the ACX 780/781 access controllers, the ACX 57xx is a powerful Ethernet device (rather than an Infinet device). It allows you to connect to card readers, keypads, door inputs and outputs, alarms, and to monitor tamper switches located on cabinet doors and walls.

The NetController II and the ACX 57xx controllers were released to coincide with the release of a major new version of CyberStation: Version 1.8. This service pack allows you to integrate these new controllers into your Andover Continuum building control system, running CyberStation Version 1.74.

What Has and Hasn’t Changed in CyberStation?

The only “update” in CyberStation Version 1.74 SP2, to support NetController II and ACX 57xx, allows you to create these Ethernet-level controller objects in your Andover Continuum system.

Creating a NetController II or ACX 57xx

To create a NetController II or ACX 57xx:

1. In Continuum Explorer, create a new InfinityController object on the appropriate network. (See CyberStation online help for instructions.)

2. If you want to create a NetController II: From the General tab of the InfinityController editor, select 9680 from the Controller Type dropdown menu.

If you want to create an ACX 5720 or 5740: Select 5720 or 5740.

3. Enter the appropriate ACCNetID.

4. On the General tab and the Network tab, enter the appropriate network settings.

5. Click Apply.

6. Verify that the controller is online.

7. Teach the controller.

Note: The Network Security checkbox on the General tab is unselectable because it is a Version 1.8 feature that provides encrypted, secure communication for users connected to a NetController II.

For more information on configuring controllers, please see the CyberStation online help.

Commissioning the Controller

In order for CyberStation to communicate with a NetController II and ACX 57xx, and in order for these controllers to operate on an IP network, the controller’s network address information must be entered. This operation is called commissioning.

The NetController II and ACX 57xx provide powerful Web Server pages, embedded in the controller, that allow you to perform all commissioning tasks. You connect to, and launch, the controller web pages using a Web browser. You no longer need to use the HyperTerminal emulation program.

For more information on controller commissioning, please see Chapter 2, Chapter 3, the NetController II Operation and Technical Reference Guide, 30-3001-995, and the ACX 57xx Series Controller Operation and Technical Reference Guide, 30-3001-999.

Chapter 2Overview of NetController II

This chapter provides an overview of the NetController II and its user documentation. It also specifies which features related to NetController II are supported and not supported in this Version 1.74 Service Pack 2.

What Is NetController II?

The NetController II consists of one model: CX 9680. The NetController II is a redesigned version of the previous-generation Andover Continuum NetController. The NetController II has a more powerful CPU, more memory, and many new features. It is totally compatible with the NetController and is suited for new and existing sites, for expansion or direct replacement.

The NetController II replaces the following model NetController models:

A Guidet to Version 1.74 Support for NetController II and ACX 57xx 17

This chapter provides an overview of the ACX 57xx series controller and its user documentation. It also specifies which features related to the ACX 57xx are supported and not supported in this Version 1.74 Service Pack 2.

What Is ACX 57xx?

The ACX 57xx series controller (ACX 5720 and 5740) is the next generation of TAC access controllers. It is designed to replace the ACX 780/781 series of access controllers.

ACX access controllers allow you to connect to card readers, keypads, door inputs and outputs, alarms, and to monitor tamper switches located on the cabinet doors and walls.

Unlike the ACX 780/781, the ACX 57xx series is an Ethernet device rather than an Infinet device. The new ACX controller is also compatible with the NetController II and its enhanced features.
