Growing with Timocco User Manual



Introduction

Timocco’s products are motion based games that encourage the child to practice a variety of physical and

intellectual abilities, using a simple webcam and a PC.

Timocco’s games are soft, friendly, and enjoyable for children.

Timocco’s applications provide a safe, educational, and non-competitive gaming environment that improves

bodily and cognitive development.



Timocco's package includes:

5 Developmental games and Navigation Interface

Installation CD

3x Tracking beanbag gloves

2 Velcro strips for stabilizing the beanbag gloves

USB Camera

Quick start Guide. (the full user manual can be found by clicking on the manual button on the left

side of the main menu or on the installation CD’s files)

Memory (RAM): 2GB and up.

USB 2 port.

Free Hard Disk space: 5GB and up

Display 17” and up.

*Recommended: 22” and up. [The system can work with small displays, but the

experience of the games will be different)

Operating System

Windows XP/Vista/7.

*Windows Vista is not recommended



Installation

Important Note: Before installation, make sure your computer is located in a large open space. Spread your

hands to the sides of your body while standing in front of the computer screen and make sure that you have

enough room for a wide range of motion.

1 Make sure that you are logged in as an administrator on the machine.

2 Plug in the USB camera into the USB port.

3 Insert Timocco installation CD to the computer.

If CD AutoRun is enabled on your PC, the installation manager will start automatically.

If this doesn't happen – simply browse to the CD, and run: “TimoccoSetup”.

Licensing First time users will have to go through the following licensing phase:

Growing with Timocco needs to be activated by your product license code. You should receive

this code from a Timocco sales representative by Email, or on a note inside the package itself.

Once the software installation is finished a window will open, asking you to enter the product

license code, as well as your name and Email address.

The code should be copied with the dashes (i.e. ABCDEF-1234-GHI).

The license code will only activate one computer



If you cannot connect to the internet, click on Offline Activation and Email Activation. A file

will be generated on your computer. Email the file to [email protected] and wait for a

reply that will give you further instructions.

The activation process needs to be done only once.

Now a video window will be automatically opened (Timocco Video Window).

For Professional edition, You will be required to insert a User name and password.

The initial user is "admin" and the password is "123456".

It is recommended to change the Username and Password after the first entrance.

Camera

Preparations

After installation and before starting to play with Timocco, you need to prepare the system for use.

1 Locate the camera at the top of your computer screen, approximately at the middle of it.

Make sure that the USB cable is plugged in.

In case your machine includes a built-in camera, you can move between this camera and

the external one you have, by pressing the "Swap Cam" button located at the bottom of the

video window.

You must be connected to the internet in order to perform

the activation.

2 Locate the computer in a lighted room (preferably opposite to a window). Make sure that

the picture is bright and clear (FPS rate must be 25 and above). If the frame rate is lower

than 25 FPS, more room lighting is required.

1 Dress the beanbag gloves on the child’s hands (Choose the gloves by their colors. Use the

gloves that contrast best with the child's clothing and background). If necessary, use the Velcro

to adjust the gloves for the desired position.

2 Locate the child approximately 1.5 meters in front of the screen. Use the Silhouette mark for

optimal child's location.



Task Instructions

3 For calibration, help the child join hands towards the "box" in the middle of the

video window.

After a few seconds (maximum) the tracker will identify the controllers and

you will see a “Ready” mark.

* When calibration is done successfully, you will be transferred automatically

to Timocco's main menu.

4 Press full screen button for a better gaming experience.

NOTE: anytime during the game, if you wish to make changes with the

gloves or if you feel tracking is not stable, click on the camera icon on the

toolbar to the right for recalibration.

The System is now ready to be played.

Timocco's World Main Screen

Timocco’s world is being displayed on the main menu of the game:

Here you can find Timocco’s exciting gaming environments.

Timocco can play in a variety of environments: In the bathroom, in the sky, on the beach et cetera.

The menu screen is an entrance window to the variety of Timocco’s gaming environments.

In order to navigate around Timocco’s world, you can use the sphere shaped gloves or

simply use the left click of your mouse. In order to enter a game, just click on the wanted

icon or attach both gloves together to create a click effect.

Game Screens

Choose a game to play and enter the game screen.

Progress bar

On the left hand side of the screen you will see a ladder bar.

This ladder appears in all of the games and shows the progress of the game.

Every hit/ correct action makes Timocco climb up the ladder.

Errors/ wrong actions will make Timocco slide down.

The game ends when Timocco reaches the top of the ladder.

Time Bar

A time bar is located at the bottom of the screen under the game window.

Comment: Although the games have time limit, it’s not the main factor in the game. The

progress between levels depends on the performance of the child and not on the amount of

time the task lasts. The faster a level is completed, more bonus coins will be awarded.

The time parameter is given in order to define an ending point for the game, in case the child is

having a hard time finishing it.

Mark the Gloves that are in use (in this example, the red glove and the green glove are in use). Remember; choose to use the gloves that contrast best with the child's clothing and background

Set the Optimal Active area (Range of motion) for the specific user. Use this tool in case the user (child or adult) does not have a full range of motion as a result of a certain disability, (e.g. uses a wheel chair or suffers from spastic cerebral palsy and so on). A smaller active area will require shorter movements. Choosing large area will make the user work harder. Rectangle shaped active area is the hardest, since the user has to stretch more in order to get to the screen edges. The ellipse shaped active area is easier. Half moon shaped active area is good for those who don’t have a full range of motion downwards (when sitting in a wheel chair or in front of a desk for example).



Timocco’s Gaming Environments Each game focuses on different motor and cognitive skills.

The therapist/ teacher/ parent can choose a program best suited to the child’s needs in order to

improve specific skills.

Bubble Bath Game

Motor skills: Strengthening the shoulders girdle, Bilateral coordination, Balance.

Cognitive skills: Focus and Attention.

In this game Timocco sits in the bath and the child must help him pop the soap bubbles that are

coming up from the tub. Take Control over Timocco’s hands in order to pop the green bubbles and

avoid the red ones. Yellow bubbles are bonus bubbles.

Hand-Eye Coordination: Popping bubbles with each hand at the time. Touch a bubble with

Timocco’s hand to pop it.

Falling Fruit Game

Motor skills: Midline crossing of the body, Strengthening the shoulders girdle, Motor Control

(Motor Accuracy).

Cognitive skills: Categorization, Focus and Attention, Reaction Time (At the advanced levels).

In the Falling Fruit game, Timocco sits on a peaceful beach and needs to collect fruit that are

falling down from the sky and place them in the right basket. The child must extend his or her hand

up in the air towards the fruit and grab it by touching it with Timocco’s hand. Then the child must

take it all the way down to the matching basket (Matching will make Timocco climb up the ladder.

Mistake will make him slide down).

Balloons Game

Motor skills: Muscle tone and Posture (Encourages static posture of the hands), Strengthening

the shoulders girdle.

Cognitive skills: Introduction to Numbers, Quantity Perception, Focus and Attention.

In this game, Balloons are attached to Timocco, keeping him floating in the sky. The child needs to

help Timocco get down to the ground. He/she can do so by popping Timocco’s balloons one at the

time with a needle. Each time a different balloon will blink and the child will have to pop it

according to the visual-hints (each program has a unique challenge: switching hands, using a

specific hand, double hits and so on.

Kitchen Drummer Game

Motor skills: Motor Control (Motor Accuracy), Midline crossing of the body.

Cognitive skills: Sequences, Visual and auditory memory, Focus and Attention.

In this game Timocco sits on a kitchen table, surrounded by pots and pans. Timocco and the

child need to listen together to the auditory and visual sequence that is played on the

kitchenware and repeat it.

In this game, the child has to paint Timocco’s Photo Album.

The child can do so by controlling two can sprays with his/her hands and moving them across the picture.

The child will have to hit different kinds of bugs and move them out of the way while painting.

Paint- Reaction Speed: Paint Timocco’s photo Album by moving the paint cans over the grey

areas of the screen. The bugs will get in your way and erase your paint, react fast in order to move

them from your way.
