The Rain Garden

• Located in the CCES Upper School Parking lot

• Started by the IB Class of 2009• Created to help filter the runoff

water from the CCES parking lot which eventually flows into the Reedy River

• 2009 Class planted many native plants which have thrived in the garden.

Goals of the Rain Garden Project

• Improve the current drainage system of the existing Rain Garden

• Maintain the native plants of the garden

• Weed the garden• Find the pH of the soil• Find the slope of the

garden• Find the flow rate of

the garden

Measurements of the Garden

– Width of the Garden: 16’6”

– Height: 1’– % slope:

– Recommended soil depth: 6-7 inches

– pH results: 7.4 (nearly neutral)

Drainage System

• Makeshift system using existing pipes and cinder block

• Rain Barrel • The Rain Garden

only receives runoff water from the faculty parking lot

• The student parking lot drains to another drain on the far side of the parking lot.

Future Goals for the Rain Garden
