EXECUTIVE SUMMARY.

IT IS AN HONOUR and privilegeto welcome you to the GRS Zambia 2014 Annual report. The year 2014 was a remarkable one for GRS Zambia as it ushered in the implementation of the 2.0 StrategicPlan, which is focused on providinga deeper reach and engagement interms of our programming. Furthermore, the GRS 2.0 plan positions us to focus our organizational strengths andprecious resources on strategies thatwill maximize the impact of our workand provide the highest return oninvestment for our donors.

That said, during the year underreview, the organisation impressivelymanaged to reach a total of 12,650adolescents and youths in Zambiaby providing them with health education on issues around HIVand AIDS prevention, treatment, careand support, sexual reproductivehealth (SRH) and gender. The 12,650participants reached were also linkedto free HIV and AIDS testing servicesand those that tested HIV positivewere enrolled onto treatment.

Grassroot Soccer’s unique activity- based curricula help adolescentsand youths learn through discoveryand participation, and empowerthem to take an active role inimproving community health. In theyear under review, we managed tograduate 10,966 youths and tested6,817 out of the 12,650 participantsthat we directly reached through ourprograms. The interactive soccer-based curriculum engages youth in vital conversations and empowers

participants with the life skills needed to adopt healthy behaviours. GRS has shown that we can change behaviours and make a significant impact on community health through our work with adolescents and youths in underserved communities in Zambia.

GRS Zambia was privileged to hostthe GRS global board meeting in June. This afforded an opportunity for our global board members to have firsthand experience and interaction with our programs that works with HIV positive adolescents and youths as well as our prevention programs targeting both in-and-out of school adolescents and youths.

The success scored in 2014 was made possible due to the effortsof our dedicated members of staffand committed partners at variouslevels who continue to believe andsupport our work. Over the years,GRS Zambia has developed strongpartnerships and referral networkswith complementary organizationsthat help guide young people throughthe maze of biomedical healthservices such as health screenings, psychosocial support and treatmentthat can save their lives.

Therefore, we look forward to theyear 2015 as we focus on deepening our reach in terms of providing a holistic approach to tackling HIV and AIDS using an integrated model. We envision reaching 16,000 adolescents and youths in the coming year, which we believe is possible with your support.

“When you ask guys why they

think it’s okay to have multiple

girlfriends, they usually say

something like, ‘Would you

want to eat the same meal

every day?’ or ‘Isn’t it nice to

drive a new car?’... But I am

not food. I am not a car. I am

a woman, and I deserve more

respect than that.”- GRASSROOT SOCCER SKILLZ COACH
